- A pretty casual playthrough (for me anyway) of the entire first mission, utilising some of the tricks I've picked up from way too many restarts over the years. (^_^;)
I'll probably do a second mission playthough at some point as well since the more dangerous enemies don't appear until then. Moreover, it gives you a chance to see more of what the game has to offer and just how clever the seed engine really is. (*_*)
No commentary for the time being (update: see below), but if there's enough interest, I might be pursuaded to add some explaining exactly how and why I play the way I do. Here's a few tips to be getting on with:-
1) Name all the droids 'Jonathan' for maximum starting stats of 15 apiece (Tony Crowther's brother's name essentially).
2) Keep one hand free at all times to take some of the hassle out of picking up all those damn money bags.
3) Only upgrade the chests early game to save serious money on repairs, the extra power & HP are always beneficial.
4) You can skip out the Swords category entirely since they aren't a lot stronger and are a lot slower than either Knuckle-dusters or Battle Gloves, plus the extra range is negated once you get Handguns.
5) Pistols are cheap but very weak, whereas Colts are surprisingly strong considering how low price the ammo is. Magnums may seem decent, but the cost is prohibitive without a lot of grinding and even the cheapest Rifle does more damage on average.
6) Always have an Anti-Grav Dev-Scape equipped to take out flying enemies. This becomes majorly important from Triekos onwards and whenever you're utilising Rifles as weapons.
7) The Rifle uses the same ammo as the Colt, so it's a convenient upgrade. Skip the Shotgun as it's disappointing weak and the ammo is too expensive.
8) Aim for the Hunter as soon as possible. Shot for shot, it's one of the strongest weapons early game, fires two shots, has a very long range, cycles rapidly, and to top it all, the ammo is far cheaper than any of the Automatics.
9) Swap the droid chips around to enable sharing of experience. It's far better to have one character with a powerful weapon than four with weak ones.
10) Don't open anything you don't have to. This is especially important on the later bases where getting surrounded by fast moving enemy types with area effect weapons can result in instant death from all angles.
Panther finally pursuaded me to do a runthrough of this particular playthrough with him, which you can catch on his channel with all our usual flair:-
