Downton Abbey: A New Era: In 1928, Tom Branson (Allen Leech), the Earl of Grantham's widowed son-in-law, marries Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton), the illegitimate daughter of and sole heir to Lady Maud Bagshaw, Queen Mary's lady-in-waiting. Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith), the Dowager Countess of Grantham, astonishes the family by revealing that long ago she was gifted a villa in the South of France by the Marquis de Montmirail, who has recently passed away. She is leaving it to her great-granddaughter, Sybbie, Tom's daughter with the late Lady Sybil Crawley, to ensure that she has a more equal social and financial standing to her cousins. The principal cast of the first film returned. Joining the cast are Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, Dominic West and Jonathan Zaccaï.

I adore this couple, they were too cute for words. I'm delighted that Tom found love again.
Let me brings memories back from 80 years ago. I had an admirer that held my hand and took me into the ballroom and we danced and danced and danced. One of the best nights of my life.
What a lovely couple! The scene where they walk out of the church and pass all the smiling, happy people, reminded me of the ending scene in Titanic, like saying "all is well now".
Tom was just adorable. Wasn't quite sure about him with Sybil to begin with - he seemed a bit angry and controlling but, as this is fiction, he soon mellowed.
I remember hoping something and/or someone wonderful would happen for Tom!! I was so happy for them!!
I wish they’d included the part where Edith and Mary have the discussion about Tom and Luci where Edith said something about keeping the money in the family and Mary calls her a cat in a nice way. It was as I recall the first sincerely nice conversation they had.
I love both movies of downton abby and all seasons of Downton abby

Between all 2nd love- couples in the series (Mary/Henry- Edith/Bertie- Rose/The white guy- Tom/Lucy) this was- by far- the best one. Lucy's such a great character whom Tom & Sybbie both deserve.

She was a ladies made and so since Tom’s station in life was elevated when he married Syble, she couldn’t join him upstairs. Took a bit but happy ending.
Lucy is Lady Grantham's sister's illegitimate daughter, and her heir.
Echoing RosieGaelic's response somewhat, Lucy was a lady's maid to Lady Bagshaw in the two Downton Abbey movies.
Lucy is the heir to Lady Maud Bagshaw. Hidden in plain sight as her mother’s maid.

Oh, Miss Bunting was played excellently by Daisy Lewis. And I've met that kind of woman before. Strong opinions that are well thought out and presented with authority. If she were a man people would saying wow....but since she's a woman she gets the labels. Just shows how sexist society still is.

Did Tom and Lucie get married on a Catholic Church ad Tom is Catholic? If they didn’t then the marriage wouldn’t be recognised in the Catholic Church.
It can be recognised if a Catholic priest also attends. Mine was.
