The way that plane just fell out of the sky like a brick as soon as the wings folded was a great illustration of how amazing flight technology actually is (and how precise the specifications for achieving it are)! We tend to forget in this modern world, with jets criss-crossing the skies above being a perfectly commonplace occurrence, how impressive and extraordinary flying is. Nice to be reminded!
There's a reason it took so many tries to create the first aircraft after all!

Hey Peter just for the fun of it .. use a piece of pcv pipe I am not sure what size to use but if it went through the spars close to either the middle or leading edge of the wing. It would let the wing flex but not allow it to break . Hope to see it soon.
That would be too heavy. Better to use some light weight hollow aluminum tubing

That, or just think about what you are doing. Harder when you are trying to do a vlog of the flight, but necessary. Didn't actually matter much, though.
Try wings that are slightly concaved underneath if you decide to redo this, it should provide a lot more lift
This was fun to watch. when I was a kid I built a paper Airplane about as big as the one you made with the leaf blower. You took it to the next level and it was a success. I had no idea the leaf Blower TWR was so good ^^ as a side note. every repair adds more weight and increases the difficulty. but the first flight was proof. the wings adjusting in the head wind is what made it fly with the leaf blower. After that you just didn't have enough control surfaces and lol... those would continually add more weight. I grind my teeth on these problems everyday and often the logical answer to the solution also... presents another problem. Fun video and would like to see more.

I don't get impressed very often but you Wright Brothers are not half bad. Great job.
I think even Howard Hughes would be impressed. I know I am. Cool!
Double the wing area and integrate leaf blower into fuselage and make it part of lifting body to help reduce drag
, kind of like the thumbnail, but with the battery handle controller flipped underneath the wings, and the blower like a single jet engine out the back, that would fly! Sounds like a derby. 😀
he prob didnt want to mod the blower
Yeah use existing chassis as stress member.
Can't really double wing area as any sort of wind would then snap it off qs you saw with the mk1 of the new vid
And make a one piece reinforced wing.
Next Challenge: Make a twin engine plane that is powered by cordless Dremel tools!
The RPM on those motors is definitely high enough.
Hahaha you could totally make an adorable little dremel plane.
This HAS to happen!!!!
upvote
You can reduce the weight even more by using CA glue instead of hot glue, the CA glue is a lot stronger making the frame stiffer with the reduction of weight you can add extra support to keep the wings straight because that's where you're losing lift. Plus try to incorporate the leaf blower within the fuselage giving you better aerodynamics.
Overall great job 👏.
underrate comment man.. good ideas
This is some Wright Brothers feelings. Great video.
Hell yes. I am glad to see this project revisited. Some of those shots are really cool of that thing flying. I have been missing some of the old school rc plane videos.
On the battery thing. At my work people bring in those packs all the time trying to get them rebuilt but we don't rebuild lithium packs. They then get mad at me because I can't do this for them and they have to spend $120 on a new battery pack. I try and explain to them then that they should always research whatever they are buying before purchase because lithium batteries don't last as long as ni-cad/ni-mh packs will. You might get 3 years out of a lithium pack while a ni-cad pack will get you 10 years. Anyways thats just my little tidbit about lithium power/yard tools.
Lithium should last at least 5 if you're not leaving it fully charged all the time, which most people do
actually litium ion akkumulators should in theory last longer than ni-cd/ni-mh...
And the capicitiy of ni-cd should get lower thanks to the memory Effekt
@@williwonti Thats the problem lithium has to be somewhat babied and most people wont do that with power tools and wont research anything. Thats why I still recommend ni-cd/ni-mh to most people.

Shibe Dog who you belong to doggu
The only problem with that is the smaller you make it the more unstable it is. Like, not unstable but if you make something a 10 millimeters you have to think about that but scaled up by 20 to get to a small model plane. So there is a 200 mm mistake and when something like a wing is 200 mm longer it makes a massive difference in the flight. TLDR you have to be near perfect because everything is super exaggerated when it’s tiny.
Shibe Dog they have a military drone that is really small
i dont think it can get much smaller than martin newell's 8 channel p-51d. it's a 1:96 scale or a 4.6 inch wingspan
