Ken is frigin awesome. No twitching--very clean and solid strokes. I saw him on a European tour opening for Decapitated and he slayed throught the entire gig. Great metal drummer.
I was the tall dude in the Exhumed shirt. Had to sit it out after getting knocked on my side in the pit during this song, though, because I broke most of my ribs on that side back in January and that shit still hurts.
Oh shit, that's right haha I saw you pick Staring from the Abyss on Origin's wheely thing. Word! I live 2 hours away from NH so this information most likely holds little relevance but I was the big kid with wicked long hair and I BELIEVE (can't quite remember) an Animosity shirt, when Origin played I was standing over the near the right side past the monitors, staring in awe at John Longstreth the whole time hahahaha
Another reason would probably be that two footed blasting is far more tight and controlled. Pretty much anyone who blasts with one foot only does it for more than 4 measures without a fill or pause because it's so straining on the right foot and limits the amount of endurance available to play double bass parts, whereas any extended blast section with few fills (like Belphegor, old Emperor or even Ken's stuff in Aborted) is almost ubiquitously performed with two feet.
If anyone has any questions about the peavy kit I'm using in the video or anything feel free to ask away. Also thanks everyone for the kind words about my playing, I can't wait to get better and learn more ways to take my drumming to the next level in intensity and creativity
Tuning with the peavy radial pro kits is pretty much the same as any other kit, they sound fantastic which is always a good thing, they can be kind of a pain in the butt as far as mic'n them goes but overall the tone you get out of them is great. The little bell I'm using is from the company turk masters, I am not sure if they are still around but it's a mike heller signature cymbal. And I don't use a left china mainly because I don't have one and I like saving space
Thanks Ken, Listening to Aborted while playing drums makes me play so much better. I love it. But drumming album i've ever heard. It drives me to want to practice alot more. Hopefully I'll be good as you someday.
and as far as getting tired fast, everyone does unless you really put a lot of time into it and practicing at higher tempos. It took me around 5 years of touring hard to get it as good as I have it now and I still dont have anything perfected so trust me you'll get there, it just takes some work :)
@radiskull1973 I actually enjoy the 9000's if you set them up right! A good beater and the right spring tention take you a long way. As far as tips go for double bass, I always liked to do quarter notes all the way up to 16th notes to a metronome switching from both single feet to double bass. Hope this helps :)
yo where did you land that peavey radial kit? that's a sick kit dude. I use a Pearl Masters myself but still I've never seen your kit before in person.
Ken is a killer drummer and is one of the few guys who doesn't have that initial 2-4 beet lag on his kicks when matching his hands on blasts. I always liked the Peavy drum sound and wish they still made kits. Oh well I guess that meas I'll just have to keep playing my Trick Percussion kit.
@YouNoob93 Honestly the reason I use two feet is because swiveling doesn't feet the best on my knees if I do too much of it so I usually end up only using it when I play double bass... Playing an hour set of straight swivel would not feel too good haha
How do you tune your snare drum? I play flying fingers on my hands for the snare blasts like you, and I've always cranked my batter as tight as it will go on my 14" steel snare. Always have wondered if having it that tight is detrimental or not to my technique (helping or not helping).
holy shit man, never heard of you until i saw this today, and i haven't been this impressed since i saw roddy for the first time... fucking sick dude. What stick and pedals you use btw:)?
oh come on dude, do you know how depressing this is seeing you playing such stuff like it is nothing ? :D awesome job dude, you look extremely relaxed, esp. for those brutal blast beats :) very clean and just wow...
Hey, I have a question: Why do you blast with two feet alternating, such as 0:42, when you are clearly able to do the speed required to do one foot blasts?
What technique do you use for your feet? I've been trying to get into ankle motion for faster stuff, but my legs tend to want to do it and I get tired fast. Maybe I need to start a lot slower?
the song is around 240 bpm, it changes tempos at parts on the cd, I try to do the same thing live but it can be a little tough with no click haha
hello mr. bedene. may i know what kind of snare that you use?.. thanks
Dude. You are a God.
Ken is frigin awesome. No twitching--very clean and solid strokes.

I was the tall dude in the Exhumed shirt. Had to sit it out after getting knocked on my side in the pit during this song, though, because I broke most of my ribs on that side back in January and that shit still hurts.
@qlqnen His hand technique is French Grip with flying fingers and Foot technique is Swivel.. Spoke to him at a show here in the UK
I've seen the sickest drummers around for 10 years, but this video made my mouth go open and just laugh from being flabbergasted. MAN!
Oh shit, that's right haha I saw you pick Staring from the Abyss on Origin's wheely thing. Word! unbelievable how relax he is playing those fast beats.not even sweating...

Hell yeah I was jammin to the Strychnine album at work earlier today, awesomeness. Would love to see Aborted live!
Your hand speed is nuts. great blasting man.
SUCh a sick drummer, saw aborted a few months ago, was blown away by his speed and his consistency, sounded like a machine at parts.
lovin dat swivel!
Amazing technique!

the best part of the video, his kitty shirt. Oh yeah and very tight blasts too haha
FREAKEN SICK!
dude. Ken Bedene is so relaxed when he plays, it looks like he's bored. he's so good that he looks fucking bored. how awesome.
This dude crushes just about everyone in my book... AND on top of that he's such a chill dude as well. Fuck yeah.
Fucking fantastic blaster!!

@Chase Glomstad dude he is using French grip not flying fingers.. Flying fingers is used primarily with German grip..
sick drummer put the other drum vid of ken that you have on your website here on youtube.... the world must be facialized with kens drumming
Killer hand technique man!
3bandman IS Ken Bedene, yet people report his comments as spam.
Oh you silly TH-cam people.
speechless how relaxed he is
Those blasts
really nice fucking drumming dude, congrats on the control and endurance, really smooth style!
Oh Ken why are you so awesome with all your fan responses! (Y) :D
And pretty damn good volume 'n rebound at these sick tempo's as well, that takes a whole lot of excellent technique and practice man. Respect!
@AeonThroneOfficial I use a dm5 with the reggee sample tuned normal, it sounds good and sound guys can mix it easy as well

Holy cow, that's UNREAL drumming...
You're insane man, can't wait to see you @Graspop this year.
That ending was amazing!
so clean
Heard that, I was there too and they were fucking brutal. Best pits of the night IMO.
@yourmomisayeti Haha thanks! I can't wait to play it!
yo where did you land that peavey radial kit? that's a sick kit dude. I use a Pearl Masters myself but still I've never seen your kit before in person.
flawless

Excellent technique
Please upload another from this set!

Hey, I have a question: Why do you blast with two feet alternating, such as 0:42, when you are clearly able to do the speed required to do one foot blasts?
You are an amazing drummer; one of the best (my favorite drummer actually). Stay brutal \m/
Your blasting technique is incredible. Best I've ever seen. With your feet, do you play heel up or down?
Do you prefer song to be technical and difficult,or to be simple, but to sound good?
epiccccccccccc
haveseriously watched this video about 400 times. aborted need to do an australian tour
You kicked ass when you guys played in Keene. Easily one of the tightest performances of the night.
What technique do you use for your feet? I've been trying to get into ankle motion for faster stuff, but my legs tend to want to do it and I get tired fast. Maybe I need to start a lot slower?
I use the swivel technique for all higher tempos
I use axis pedals and silverfox drumsticks
Over night you have become my favourite drummer and i mean it! I have a question still.. why have you abandoned your left china?
It's a peavy radial pro drumset
Fast hands at 0:38 and 2:30 and a few other times. Holy crap.
That snare win for sure
DAT BLAST BEAT
Can anyone tell me which sticks is he using?
What size is that snare?
yeah i imagine man, 240bpm i find it very hard to keep at a solid tempo between double bass and blasting sections.
Does anyone know what brand of drums he is using?
Yep. Pearl Vision Birch lacquer, concord fade.
what kind of snare is that ?
Holy fuck yeah.
How much does this song tick at? and how long have you been playing deathmetal? :)
how old are you???
what snare head you usin?
wow no click... roughly what speed is this song then?
What heads are those
Flying fingers is just an unofficial term bro. He's still using finger technique, which can be done in either german or french.
Talking about consistent flying finger.
What Snare does Ken have? sounds so good
@Summoniac Lol I'm sorry that my playing depresses you, that was not my intention! Haha thank you for the kind words
240 bpm done right is all one needs really
ARE YOU WATCHING LARS ULRICH????
Singles or Doubles on the feet?
You find someone fast then you always find someone faster haha
why do these triggers sound so great when others sound like sci-fi laser pew-pew sounds?
No triggers?
Where is dan wilding?
I wouldn't necessarily say "bored" because that just makes him sound like he's not into the music. I'd say that he just gets the job done.
hey do you recommend the dm5 for also recording? My band is gonna record a demo and we only want to trigger the bassdrum. whats your opinion?
cheers.
