Best live rendition of this gem. So smooth and in the pocket.

The end of John Blackwell's drum solo and right before the song ends Prince has a grin on his face like " I got a killer band, right ? " Great masters right here

Musicianship like this doesn't come around often. You're lucky if each generation has someone talented - and this talented is once in a few generations at the very least.... My favorite song of his as it displays all the quirkiness that made him so great - amazing song, great lyrics, one of a kind. The year he wrote this, U2 won album of the year at the Grammy's... Not the rightful Sign 'O' The Times (which contains this song) that P had released. He said to his band "I can write a song like With or Without You but they cannot write Housequake..." That says it all. His genius was way ahead of its time. His talent so far above his contemporaries it frightened most. Damn, this guy was the GOAT

I loved NPG Music Club. I was a member from day one and got front row at a few concerts and aftershows. I even got into the centerfold photo in the book that comes with the One Nite Along live set because NPGMC members got into that aftershow for free. I was so close that I was resting my hand on Prince's stage monitor.

Everything about this was cool - the set, the Prince chick, the jazz arrangement

One of the coolest versions out there A brilliant man,A brilliant musician with a god given talent And miss him everyday. The world seems so dull without prince's light shining like a beacon for all to see and sit in awe of such talent Losing prince and John blackwell was a shock and still felt to this day.Wherever you may be jamming I hope its in a light that has blessed u 4 all u gave
    Peace and be wild

That seque into 4 reminds me of being in my freshman college dorm in 87’ ,listening to SOTT and Madhouse while I was unpacking.

So I was today years old when I realized that this live arrangement merges the song with "4" from the album "8" by Madhouse.

Me too! I loved this arrangement he played on The Tonight Show. I had no idea until TONIGHT that he included parts of Madhouse in the arrangement. I never really heard the Madhouse albums so this completely went over my head!

Prince (RIP) - supported by NPG members :-
    Drums - John Blackwell (RIP)
    Bass - Rhonda Smith
    Reeds - Jerome "Najee" Rasheed
    Keyboards - Morris Hayes
    Guitar - Mike Scott
    Percussion - Kirk Anthony Johnson
What musicianship - arrangement par excellence !
Any chance of posting other Prince clips on a Latin vibe ?

The woman playing Dorothy is Tomisina Tate. Larenz Tate’s wife.

Wow this version of Dorothy Parker is SIIIICK AF!!! And they incorporated some Madhouse 8 in the breakdown.

The fans used to completely burn up the concert reviews on love 4 one another official website and most of them praised John Blackwell as a drum machine maestro and I remember one post where Prince posted in the current news being in awe of Mr. Blackwell and how " Wow, ALL THAT in one show".

First time seeing this clip. As a >100 Prince albums fan, I’ve always been disappointed with his live performances outside of the concert-context. Talk shows &c always seemed to fall flat, which always struck me as bizarre for a perfectionist like Prince. This-hands down-is easily the best non-concert live Prince performance I have ever seen. And not just a little bit. By a *HUGE* margin. *AND* I don’t care for Lenno. My horse sense tells me this must have been a special day for Prince.

Not sure why Jay thought a carpenter who wants to repair your chair is a "stupid idiot" or why a security guy's uniform would be "stupid" as well. Pretty telling about his real character.
