WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN GULF SHORES ALABAMA

  • If you’re looking for white sand beaches, coastline that goes on for as far as the eye can see, and the calm of the ocean, you need to head to Gulf Shores, Alabama. We’re here visiting the gulf coast city and it has blown my expectations out of the water. Are you curious what all there is to see and eat here? Well I’m going to show you. Let’s get started…
Things to do in Gulf Shores, Alabama
    Bon Secour National Wildlife Reserve
We chose the Pine Beach Trail which goes 3.5 miles from the parking lot out to the beach and back. If we had had more time, we could have spent all day relaxing on that beach. It was super secluded and had the most gorgeous clear water. The kids had an absolute blast!
    Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo
The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is great! In fact, I finally got to do something I’ve always wanted to do - feed the giraffes! Not only can you feed giraffes, but this zoo also offers a kangaroo encounter, sloth encounter, and lemur encounter.
    The Wharf
The Wharf is a cool, outdoor entertainment district that has all sorts of shopping, dining, and activities to enjoy.
    OWA
Downtown OWA. This 520 acre entertainment destination has everything a traveler’s heart could desire - shopping, restaurants, a theme park, live music at the amphitheater, wakeboard park, musical theater, and there’s even a water park being built currently. You could spend all day here - and we actually did!
The Park at OWA. One of our kids’ favorite things about OWA is the theme park. It has 21 rides from thrill to family friendly rides that the whole family can enjoy.
Murder Creek Distillery. They have 14 different flavored moonshines available currently and all batches are distilled, mixed, bottled and labeled on site. I wasn’t expecting to like moonshine, but when you can do a tasting of all of the flavors they offer for just $1, I figured I might as well try them. So no matter if you like a fruitier drink or a specific taste, they’ve got a flavor you’ll love - and they’ll even mix it into a cocktail for you there.
Legends in Concert. The casting directors did a phenomenal job of finding performers who could sing, dance, and act just like famous entertainers like Celine Dion, Elvis Presley, Karen Carpenter, and Michael Jackson.
Water park. The water park is currently being built, so I’m not sure when it will be available for guests, but from the looks of it, it’s going to have some pretty amazing water slides!
    Coastal Alabama Farmer’s Market
There were fresh vegetables, fruits, jarred jams and jellies, pickled things, and herbs. It was really neat to talk directly to the growers themselves and a lot of them had traveled a long way to be there. There was a very nice man from Minnesota who had driven down to escape the snow and brought his apples with him. We sat there and chatted with him for a while and ended up purchasing some of his honeycrisp apples. When you get something from the source, you also have the opportunity to get some of the wisdom and information about the products that you wouldn’t have otherwise.
    Battleship Memorial Park
I know, I know, I’m going to get some backlash for including this one on here since it’s not technically in Gulf Shores, but you know what? If you’re in the car driving to or from Gulf Shores and happen to go through Mobile on I-10, you’re going to thank me for letting you in on this little nugget of information because it’s a nice way to stretch your legs and see something interesting instead of a gas station bathroom.

Restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach all close around 9:00 pm ,so you want to be at your chosen food destination by 7:00 or 7:30 pm at the latest. The Wharf is no exception. I think that the Ferris wheel operates until 10:00pm but all of the restaurants and shops are closed at 9:00pm. Not a lot of night life in OB and GS , but there is a lot to do. There's a car lot that specializes in old school muscle cars, classic cars , and cars that were produced in limited numbers that might be worth checking out in Gulf Shores. I believe that it's called "Gulf Shores Motors" or something like that. If it's still there, it's right off of Gulf Shores Parkway

@@StacyAnderson in the early 1960’s money was being raised to move the Alabama from the west coast to Mobile. School children, including me, donated recess $$ to that fund. So I guess that makes me a charter member of the US Alabama “Fan Club”.

If anyone takes a vacation in February, never miss Mardi gras in mobile. It's the most fun of anything. I've never met a mean person at Mardi gras mobile. Very family oriented and it's a fun time for ALL to have. We drive 6 hours every Feb just to go to the parades. You can't go wrong. It's about 30 min drive from Gulf shores! Their community really works hard to come together for families near and far! Also, they have the best foods at Mardi gras. We pay 10 bucks parking on Claiborne drive , right across the street from the BACKside of art gallery. You can't beat it. Sometimes they have 4 plus parades in one day. Stay all day and enjoy the most fun of all. Very safe too! Police even have 24 7 smiles on every corner. Some people bring a canopy and their own grill. Some just take a cooler full of spicy crawfish , buttery potatoes and corn.. polish sausages. (we do that) Bring baby wipes but there bathroom porta.. are just about on every corner. Hand sanitizer has never been empty for us. They have a giant outdoor stadium with big groups come in. Nelly was there one year and this year it was counting crowes band. This is all FREE stuff too. Other than food and souvenirs.. Bring your own food and it's all free. Oh and the parking of course. If you park in ones of those parking areas like Claiborne.. you only have a few feet to walk up to the barricades for full time parade fun! Don't forget to bring bags for your beads and souvenirs that the floats throw. They throw giant stuffed animals, moon pies of every flavor, Mardi gras cups and so much more to mention. We usually dump our bags into our trunk in a larger bag in between parades. They fill up fast. Kiddos of all ages with laughter and excitement!! You'll see beautiful ball dresses and long tail tucks throughout the night. Even the ones who had too much to drink are super nice. Lol
Don't forget to load trunk with fold out chairs because you'll wanna walk up to barricades a bit early to get you a good spot.

Do they allow dogs at USS Alabama? Are there kennels where they can stay? I assume they are not allowed in the ship itself.

    • @StacyAnderson
      @StacyAnderson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

While they don’t allow them on the ship, dogs are allowed on the grounds around it and they have kennels you can rent for them while you’re exploring the ship. Happy travels!
