Hi @MsMojo. Sorry, but Marcia Cross's pregnancy segment is not correct. She was indeed pregnant while shooting Season 3, and they did shoot some scenes in her home when she was put in bed rest. BUT her character was written out mid-season 3 while she was on maternity leave. The fake pregnancy storyline came in season 4, when her character's daughter, Danielle, was pregnant, and Bree wanted to pass her baby as her own once her daughter gave birth. Marcia Cross was no longer pregnant by that point, and she took the fake baby bump several time that showed her svelte figure. I guess the fake pregnancy storyline was also a way to play a joke on Marcia's real life pregnancy on season 3.
Charmed has an all time classic for Holly Marie Combs. There was one episode where they cut off her character's head, though still alive cause they're in a magic school. So she spends the majority of the episode as a disembodied head on top of a cupboard.
I absolutely loved the way they did it on The Nanny. Of course we could tell CC was pregnant but it was readily acknowledged in the funniest ways without writing it into the show. LOVED THIS SHOW!
As good a job as some of the other shows have done at hiding pregnancies, The Nanniy's was my favorite because they simultaneously hid Lauren Lane's pregnancy and pointed out the ridiculousness of it at the same time.
The saddest instance of this was when Katey Sagal became pregnant on Married with Children. They wrote her pregnancy into Peg's storyline, even making her neighbor Marcy pregnant as well. Katey eventually had a miscarriage, so the writers used the "It was all a dream" trope to explain away the storyline. That must have been so hard for Katey to do. :(
A lot of actresses choose not to have their pregnancies written into the storyline just in case of something like that happening, which is why it really annoys me when people online get frustrated that writers haven't incorporated an actress' real life pregnancy into a storyline. When that happens, it's usually the actress' choice, people!
Many years ago I got the opportunity to be in the audience for a taping of the show KATE & ALLIE. One of the leads, Susan Saint James was very pregnant at the time. Before the the taping started an emcee announced that since her character wasn't pregnant on the series, they would be doing some very creative ways to hide the pregnancy. It was hilarious because every time she entered she had these HUGE shopping bags with her. Then they would position her either sitting down with a pillow on her lap or standing behind some strategically placed object. It was so funny. Watching the show when it was broadcast, nobody could even tell she was pregnant at all.
The most interesting thing to me is that Gillian Anderson’s pregnancy changed the trajectory of the XFiles when they decided to write her out temporarily as abducted. The emotions deepened extraordinarily and really made the show
Wandavision hilariously pointed out the way classic sitcoms used to hide pregnancies, from having the actress wearing baggy clothes, be placed behind conveniently large objects, or shooting them from the head up, or sitting down. In fact, Wanda goes from barely showing, to being obviously expecting.
It must have been hard for Courteney Cox to act out Monica and Chandler's infertility struggles, since she was going through similar difficulties. Fortunately, she was able to have her daughter, Coco.
My brother always said it would’ve been better if in the series finale, it was revealed that Monica and Chandler were going to have a baby naturally; with Courteney‘s real-life pregnancy serving as that child.
It may have been hard but also therapeutic. I don't think the writers would have done it if she didn't find value in the storyline. It may have been more beneficial than we know.
@@COMPFUNK2I like she didn't have her own. It was realistic. To then turn and have her actually pregnant wouldn't have been as special to me, at least. This showed what adoption from the beginning looks like when you're in contact with the birth mother. Shows weren't doing that then.
I love how this topic is caricatured in "Home Improvement" where Wilsons face is always hidden behind something: a fence, flowers, a face mask, candles etc.
For Alyson Hannigan, you missed the part where Lily got written out for several episodes of season 4 after Barney told a dirty joke that disturbed her ("What's the difference between peanut butter and jam?").
Definitely C.C. Babcock was the best! One of the most endearing things about The Nanny was it never took itself seriously, unless the plot called for serious. I really miss shows like that... they sure don't make 'em like they used to!
I noticed "I Love Lucy" didn't make the list. Lucille Ball was pregnant in real life, while she was filming her show. Not to mention, they were trying to find ways to hide her baby bump too. Also, while Lucille Ball was out having her baby, they found a way to continue filming the show. In some episodes, they would show Ricky talking to Ethel, with the help of flashbacks of Lucy, before her pregnancy.
And they weren't allowed to use the word pregnant in the show! When they wrote her pregnancy into the script in one season she was actually pregnant with her second child, Lucy Arnaz.
It is a shame you didn't mention Star Trek DS9. When Nana Visitor was pregnant at the end of Season 4, there was a space accident where Keiko O'Brien's unborn son was transferred to Kira. She had to carry the baby to term until the middle of Season 5. I think that was a pretty creative way to fit the pregnancy in and should have been included in this list. It wasn't the character who was pregnant with her own child, but a sci-fi, techno-babble, creative way to hide the actress's real life pregnancy. I know this one is kind of on the border there since Kira became a surrogate mother, but it wasn't in a conventional way.
That and ST:VOY, where Roxanne Biggs-Dawson was pregnant partway through. They hid it very well, until the one episode where they were all stuck as holodeck characters, and RBD's holodeck character was pregnant for that 2-parter, even though "B'Elanna Torres" was not. (Later, of course, when pregnancy WAS part of B'Elanna's storyline, RBD was not pregnant. Go figure.) Edit: never mind, that one actually made it into the list. That's what I get for reading comments before I watch the video.
Gene Roddenbery’s Andromeda. Lexa Doig was pregnant for part of season 5. Her character was an AI and could not get pregnant. Her robotic body was destroyed. Was not seen for awhile. She had two other ways of appearing. Her “on screen” shot where she’s a hologram shot from the neck up. Full body avatar/hologram. Appeared in AI world. Shot from behind talking to Dylan. To replace the robotic form that had been destroyed. Harper created a new AI form which believed itself to be human- Doyle. Lexa gave birth to her child. They recreated her original body and the ship had 2 AI robots.
I'm surprised you didn't include Charmed's choice of having Piper lose her head for an episode to cover for Holly Marie Combs real life pregnancy. Weird way to hide one was on Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Keiko O'Brian was pregnant & traveling with Major Kira & the Doctor somewhere in a shuttle/runabout & something happens to the ship & Keiko was injured & in danger of losing her baby so somehow through the science (fiction) of 24th century medicine, the Doctor was able to move Keiko's baby to Major Kira to cover for Nana Visitor's real life pregnancy. Then they came up with a reason for why they couldn't move the baby back, so Major Kira had to carry the baby to term. Gates McFadden had the least weird one, with Dr. Crusher just getting bigger & bigger lab coats.
Also, this past season, Ghosts had Sam wearing a pumpkin costume to cover for Rose McIver's real life pregnancy & for the majority of the episodes of season 3, she was standing behind the counter a lot to sign guests in.
I should have guessed that Lily taking offence to a dirty joke that Barney told was to cover for Alyson's pregnancy. While the joke itself wasn't very funny, her reaction certainly was.
I didn’t initially realize Melissa was pregnant on B99 but it makes sense however I absolutely never knew Jane was pregnant on 30 Rock. Just finding out now. What a brilliant show (also worth noting that Jenna’s hysterical pregnancy belly shrinks down later in the episode so I’m not sure if she was pregnant while filming that one but certainly not far along if she was unless they filmed the scene both early and later on in her pregnancy.)
You know there were shows before the 90s! Where was Shelley Long from Cheers, Susan Saint James from Kate & Allie, Elizabeth Montgomery from Bewitched, etc.?
It's funny because they can cover the belly as much as they want but usually it ends showing in the face when the hormones start changing. The combination not showing the mid-part + fuller lips + convinient dissappearance for a couple of chapters is always a giveaway
The Disney Channel show "Good Luck, Charlie" had the actress Leigh Allyn-Baker pregnant for one season when she was not actually pregnant, but then concealed her actual pregnancy during another season. What's hilarious about this is that she played the perpetually pregnant friend, Ellen, of Will and Grace 😂
I know The Office got a mention but they deserve a special call-out for overlaps: first Angela was pregnant in real life but not on the show. Next, Pam was pregnant on the show but not in real life. Finally, Pam was pregnant on the show AND in real life, and Angela was pregnant on the show but not real life. My head is spinning!
When Susan St. James was pregnant on "Kate & Aleey" they put her in a bunny costume for Halloween. They had her help carry a mattress upstairs and eventually they broke her foot and put in a hospital bed where she sat with the hospital tray table over her belly. I love that show! 💕 Great video! 🖕
Hers cracked me up because she suddenly started wearing her shirts untucked. That's definitely NOT regulation and it's never acknowledged. Writing in for the last few episodes, even as a holographic projection, was pretty smart
My favourite part of that arc was when Phoebe and Paige were telling Piper that she's pregnant with Chris. Piper says, "I'm not pregnant!" and Phoebe looks straight at her tummy and makes various, "Nah, yeah," noises 🤣
I’ve always wondered if Traylor Howard was actually pregnant in that Monk episode where she fakes being pregnant 😂 Her bump looked very real but I didn’t know if it was because she doesn’t look very pregnant in any of the other episodes. I guess she just did a lot of sitting or holding bags 😂
They did a great job of hiding it but I did catch a quick view of "junior" in one episode where they were trying to hide him/her behind a big bouquet of flowers.
I did skip around but I don’t recall Laurie Metcalf’s partial hidden pregnancy on Roseanne. Before writing it into the show Laurie was very visibly preggers so much so that there’s a scene where she’s hiding in the tub behind a shower curtain. It was hilarious! I think shortly after that episode she tells everyone she’s pregnant but the bathroom scene was classic.
Is that the same episode where Roseanne, Dan and Jackie smoked pot in the bathroom? Where she yells while in the tub: ''Is this the sink? Am I shrinking???'' 🤣
Star Trek Deep Space 9 was very unique too, when Nana Visitor was pregnant right before she gave birth, they had her character become an unexpected surrogate mom. The biggest joke was how many sneezes she would do because that was part of the Bajorian physiology.
I was expecting to see Trina McGee Boy Meets World. I remember watching the original airing of the Scream parody episode and asking myself if she was pregnant. I was shocked the network would have an actual pregnancy teen on a popular show. After waiting eons for dial up and an internet search found out she was in her mid to late twenties and married. After that I rewatched my VHS recordings of earlier episodes and laughed at how obvious it was at attempting to hide her bump. And for the rest of the season when the episodes aired I played spot the bump.
I loved the way they hid Jane's pregnancy in Frasier cuz it was so funny and it made sense for Daphne to over eat with what was going on with Niles and his problem with trying to get a divorce especially when he couldn't get seen with Daphne!
You missed Holly Marie Combs on Charmed. Her character's 2nd pregnancy was interestingly written into the show at the end of season 6 when she learned that their new whitelighter, Chris, turns out to be the son she was later carrying! You can't beat that imaginative plot to explain Holly's pregnancy.
Take note Ladies are also actresses. If you're going to get pregnant, make sure you're on a show with Sci-Fi twist or sci-fi then it'll be interesting to see how they hide it.
Unless you are on a show with a misogynistic show runner who will just destroy your beloved character because he's too egotistical to figure out a better way to hide the bump.
Geez, oh. Regardless of how or whether or not they hide their pregnancies, women never get a break when playing their characters in TV shows, movies and what not.
@@domaneishahammond1391 I never said I was upset. The reason I said what I said is because every time a woman gets pregnant, there’s always hysteria on some level.
The best hiding of a pregnancy is the second season of secret diary of a call girl. They used body doubles, because she needed to do a lot of sex scenes, but the top didn't match the bottom.
You also forgot the joke with Colbie Smulders lying on the couch, covered in a blanket, sick with food poisoning. She sarcastically says, "I'm pregnant" when asked why she is sick. I think the scene was shot shortly after her pregnancy announcement
the funniest was heather morris's on glee bc they couldn't even be bothered trying to hide it so it was super obvious but also they had her do one handed cartwheels n shit
you know, if you had bigger women in these things it would be a heck of a lot easier to cover up. I lost weight when I was pregnant and only looked pregnant from the side a week before I had the baby. Cast bigger women.
you're kidding, right? Every dingle one of them was placed behind desks and shot from the bust up, and it was noticeable cause the face was a bit rounder too.
@@m0t0b33 A round face is impossible to hide, every pregnant woman will demonstrate this. Despite that, I think they did a good job filming the scenes. There are series that not even using these resources can achieve.
I remember that I figured out most of these pregnancies because of the way some of the actresses cheeks got chubby. Not shaming just saying that's how I noticed
Should have included Katey Sagal's pregnancy while on Married with Children. They didn't hide it, they incorporated it into the show. Despite this pregnancy ending in a tragedy for Katey Sagal, the show was very supportive of her.
Baby is a Broadway play that people who saw it and might forgotten it's existence. The play officially opened on December 4, 1983 and it ended on July 1, 1984. The funny thing about that musical is that we went to go see it in an old theater that looked like it was under construction. We came in late when the play was already going and a male and female actors were singing the fourth song in the play. Which was Baby, Baby, Baby. This was in the 90s and my youngest sister was married and was going to have a girl at the time. Throughout the play, I was like, What the heck is this? The ending was the kicker. It was all off stage and no actor was in sight. The character was giving birth to a baby but it was off stage. The actors were like behind the curtain. And I'm like, What in the heck is going on? And then it ended. Wow, how anticlimactic.
Marcia cross was not pregnant during her fake pregnancy storyline. The fake storyline happened in season 4. She came back from her maternity leave with the storyline. Please do more research.
The funniest part of hiding Alyson Hannigans pregnancy was the explanantion of her absence. That she found Barney's joke so repulsive that she couldn't stand the sight of him for a couple of weeks
Crista Miller's pregnancy was included in the show Scrubs, however... but judging by her looks, it must've been when Jordan was pregnant with baby JD ( Jennifer Dylan), the vasectomy baby 😂 Oh and CSI: Miami, Emily Procter was pregnant, but it wasn't acknowledged, instead they put Caleigh in a coma after smoke inhalation when they had to explain away her absence. And in CSI: NY, Anna Belknap was also pregnant on the show and I'm not 100% sure, but I think they wrote it off as happening when Lindsay had to testify for the murder of her friends in Montana, not when the character was pregnant.
You missed Married With Children. Katy Segal was pregnant and they wrote in a whole dream sequence for it. Unfortunately her baby girl in real life was stillborn, hence the drean sequence. .

I guess the fake pregnancy storyline was also a way to play a joke on Marcia's real life pregnancy on season 3.
Another hidden pregnancy was that of Katrina Bryan on CBeebies molly and Mack for the show 3rd and 4th seasons until she vanished in s4 ep10 and returned in s4 ep19 and she was hidden by giant clothes and bags
Personally, I thought the story arc of Daphne eating too much was silly. I thought it would have been funnier if she revealed she was pregnant with her previous fiance's baby. This would have raised the stakes for the Crane family's relationship with her.
Which hidden belly moment surprised you the most?

The Nanny was really good at breaking the fourth wall. They could laugh at themselves, and not take the show too seriously.

Married… With Children: Katey Sagal
Now you should do top 30 labor and delivery episodes
I remember for Julia Duffy on Newhart, it was sweaters and Melissa Peterman on Reba it was plus sized clothes.
All of these were great.
I watched The Big Comfy Couch for a long time as a kid.
To me, it's Zooey Deschanel. Happy sunday afternoon, Rebecca. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
I loved the way they hid Jane's pregnancy in Frasier cuz it was so funny and it made sense for Daphne to over eat with what was going on with Niles and his problem with trying to get a divorce especially when he couldn't get seen with Daphne!
The Big Comfy Couch is a Canadian series and the actress is Canadian and went to Queens University in Kingston Ontario.
You forgot Holly Marie Combs from Charmed
I’ve seen that episode of MONK so many times and didn’t know that Howard was really pregnant. I hate what they did to Daphne on Frasier.
Yeah, fatshaming isn't all that funny to me.
Lmao I love how they say they aren’t mentioning the shows that wrote the pregnancy into the show, then majority of them were just that 😂
You missed Holly Marie Combs on Charmed. Her character's 2nd pregnancy was interestingly written into the show at the end of season 6 when she learned that their new whitelighter, Chris, turns out to be the son she was later carrying! You can't beat that imaginative plot to explain Holly's pregnancy.
You didn't include Vanpelt from The Mentalist. That girl was carrying plants and even had a cart following her around to hide her pregnancy lol
In Numb3rs when they hid Dianne Farr behind an insanely large bowl of popcorn.
Geez, oh. Regardless of how or whether or not they hide their pregnancies, women never get a break when playing their characters in TV shows, movies and what not.
Wait are you upset. I don’t get what’s wrong
@@domaneishahammond1391 I never said I was upset. The reason I said what I said is because every time a woman gets pregnant, there’s always hysteria on some level.
@@bengray3245 that’s what I’m saying is that a bad or good thing from your perspective?
@@domaneishahammond1391 A good thing.
Holly Marie Combs on Charmed
The best hiding of a pregnancy is the second season of secret diary of a call girl. They used body doubles, because she needed to do a lot of sex scenes, but the top didn't match the bottom.
You also forgot the joke with Colbie Smulders lying on the couch, covered in a blanket, sick with food poisoning. She sarcastically says, "I'm pregnant" when asked why she is sick. I think the scene was shot shortly after her pregnancy announcement
I loved the soundtrack from cinderella story and that dress
They also did Jane Leeves' method in season 5 of Mom when Jill's actress was pregnant.
Ooh 😲 Jaime Presley
Ooooh I always thought that storyline was odd
the funniest was heather morris's on glee bc they couldn't even be bothered trying to hide it so it was super obvious but also they had her do one handed cartwheels n shit
you know, if you had bigger women in these things it would be a heck of a lot easier to cover up. I lost weight when I was pregnant and only looked pregnant from the side a week before I had the baby. Cast bigger women.
No series has been able to hide it as well as Grey's Anatomy. Chyler Leigh's pregnancy goes unnoticed for those who don't know the news...
you're kidding, right? Every dingle one of them was placed behind desks and shot from the bust up, and it was noticeable cause the face was a bit rounder too.
@@m0t0b33 A round face is impossible to hide, every pregnant woman will demonstrate this. Despite that, I think they did a good job filming the scenes. There are series that not even using these resources can achieve.
I remember that I figured out most of these pregnancies because of the way some of the actresses cheeks got chubby. Not shaming just saying that's how I noticed
The actress’s started looking healthier and happier when they filled out a bit.
@@nuranozdemir6454 They got that glow that only a mother can get
As Phoebe Buffay told Joey: Oh, that's sweat. You throw up all morning, you'll have that glow too.
Should have included Katey Sagal's pregnancy while on Married with Children. They didn't hide it, they incorporated it into the show. Despite this pregnancy ending in a tragedy for Katey Sagal, the show was very supportive of her.
but the point of the video was the ways they hid it
Baby is a Broadway play that people who saw it and might forgotten it's existence.
You forgot about Anna Paquin on True Blood.
‘We won’t include any series where it was written in. First up, pregnancy written into the show’ 🤔
The funniest part of hiding Alyson Hannigans pregnancy was the explanantion of her absence. That she found Barney's joke so repulsive that she couldn't stand the sight of him for a couple of weeks
Melrose Place hid Heather Locklear’s pregnancy, but the producers were sued when they fired another actress who was pregnant.
Why include Voyager and not DS9?
RIP Naya Rivera 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
One I love was Jay's actress' pregnancy in My Wife and Kids. Problematic now, but I liked it
Crista Miller's pregnancy was included in the show Scrubs, however... but judging by her looks, it must've been when Jordan was pregnant with baby JD ( Jennifer Dylan), the vasectomy baby 😂 Oh and CSI: Miami, Emily Procter was pregnant, but it wasn't acknowledged, instead they put Caleigh in a coma after smoke inhalation when they had to explain away her absence.
Unfortunately her baby girl in real life was stillborn, hence the drean sequence. .
The greys anatomy with ellen pompeo was really clever plus zoey deschanel really looks like katy perry
Zoey Deschanel even appeared in Katy Perry's music video not the end of the world where aliens Abduct Zoey because they mistake her for katy
Elizabeth Montgomery was pregnant during the first season of Bewitched.
This is interesting
Another hidden pregnancy was that of Katrina Bryan on CBeebies molly and Mack for the show 3rd and 4th seasons until she vanished in s4 ep10 and returned in s4 ep19 and she was hidden by giant clothes and bags
Aphrodite forbid for being blocked xxxx
I liked Titus Cynthia Watertros “Erin,” hiding behind a Bouquet.
Personally, I thought the story arc of Daphne eating too much was silly. I thought it would have been funnier if she revealed she was pregnant with her previous fiance's baby. This would have raised the stakes for the Crane family's relationship with her.
HELLO!!!! OLIVIA BENSON?!?!
Julia Louis Dreyfus on Seinfeld.
Gates McFadden on TNG.
In both cases, the actresses wore lots of long coats.
