I met Sinbad in 2018 before health challenges. We were staying at the same hotel. He was taking musical instruments out of his truck. I offered to help offload. Couldn't hide my excitement and thanked him for his career as an actor and comedian. We talked for 30 minutes about music. People with me thought we knew each other for years. Great guy! He's had his health challenges and I have mine. Meeting him was one of the best moments of my life.
My mom has lupus and it is a very challenging thing to deal with for me and my family. I feel so terrible for not recognizing how bad things would get. God bless you and anyone that has to live with that.
I think everybody likes this movie so much because, especially if we have children, you can kind of relate. Everybody’s been on that hunt for that one elusive item.
Arnold's kid in this was played by Jake Lloyd who played Anakin Skywalker in the Phantom Menace. The Big Show would have still be wrestling as The Giant in WCW when this movie was made.
Hey yall I don't know who gifted me a membership just randomly but thank you. I've watched for so long and couldn't quite get one yet. It means the world. Thanks.
12:14 It does amuse me that nobody seems to remember what the Toy Story Buzz Lightyear craze was like, or the Tickle Me Elmo. You couldn't find them. People were getting into fights over them.
@@artofsam My parents had me in the shopping cart with the Buzz Lightyears. They were desperately trying to hide them from my sight while we pushed through the rampaging horde of people. They ogt one for each of us kids. It was insane.
In case nobody answered for 26:48 , That is Paddington and I HIGHLY recommend watching the two movies out for it. They are such feel good movies and the Third movie is coming out very early next year.
A lot of kids these days think that 90s culture is just Disney movies and Nickelodeon. But there were so many weird, obscure movies that we watched constantly on VHS. Jingle All the Way, First Kid (also with Sinbad), Homeward Bound, Fly Away Home. Such a great time for children's media.
"Come on, Myron, you're taking this too far." "Hey, I'm not going home without that doll!" "Hey, buddy, this ain't the way we rehearsed it!" "You know what? Nobody likes you, Booster." Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Chris Parnell. What Script Fact: Sinbad improvised the majority of his lines. Arnold Schwarzenegger also improvised many of his responses in his conversations with him. Location Location Fact: Minneapolis does have a winter parade every year during the Christmas season. It's known as the Holidazzle parade, but it is held in the evening, not during the day as shown in the movie. Historical Fact: The story is based on the 1980s shopping frenzy over the Cabbage Patch dolls. However, it ended up perfectly mimicking the Tickle Me Elmo craze of Christmas 1996. Turbo Man series was a parody of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993). Final Bow Fact: The final theatrical film release of Phil Hartman during his lifetime. Wife Brynn Hartman had murdered him in his sleep and then took her own life shortly after. By all accounts, Brynn was a drug addict and had a bad temper. She was reported to have been jealous and often verbally and/or physically abusive towards Phil. Civil Lawsuit Fact: In March 2001, a U.S. District Court jury in Birmingham, Michigan ruled that 20th Century Fox stole the script idea from Detroit high school biology teacher Brian Webster. The studio was ordered to pay $19 million, later reduced to $1.5 million. Webster submitted the script to the studio in 1994 and never received payment nor credit despite the film making $129 million worldwide. The studio appealed, claiming Webster's script was submitted after they had purchased a treatment (summary or outline) of what would become this movie's script and the verdict was reversed.
13:43 - The second pair he said was Johnny Quest and Hadji, from the old Johnny Quest cartoon. P. S. you gotta watch the Starsky & Hutch movie directed by Todd Phillips, starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Vince Vaughn. It's darn hysterical!
I won’t lie, watching your reaction just now brought back memories. And that final scene where he gave up the doll when he didn’t have to and say “who needs a doll when I got the real turbo man at home.” I had to hold back a tear just now.
My family quotes "sick world we live in, sick people!" all the time 😂 I don't know why this movie didn't get good reviews but it's undeniably a Christmas classic
This was my eldest nieces childhood. I was raised 80s/90s, our rotation was Rudolph, frosty, a Christmas story. My sister began having kids in 1997 and the movie rotations changed, jingle all the way replaced frosty and one year we watched nothing but jingle abd christmas story on repeat for a week. I honestly have not watched either film independently in 20 years because of the overload back then.
Seriously, this Jamie character really gave off some Anakin energy. (Specifically older Anakin. Ironically, Anakin was pretty cool, levelheaded, and mature as a kid. He got far less mature as he aged. Hormones must’ve amplified that dark side energy. Then again, a lot of people I went to school with were arguably more mature as kids than as “adults”, too. Hm. Maybe they’re secretly Sith as well. That would certainly explain some things.) I get that his dad was terrible at keeping his promises because he was a workaholic, but goddamn. Howard was clearly a caring and loving father all along, just lousy with time management. Kid seems super demanding and fussy. I’m about ten years younger than JL, and yeah, that behavior wouldn’t have worked out much better for me than it would for him. I get the impression his parents were a good bit more strict than mine, but still.
Figgy pudding is a Christmas dish, usually a cake containing honey, fruits and nuts. In later times, rum or other distilled alcohol was often added to enrich the fruitiness of the flavor.
In response to your question figgy pudding refers to the medieval desert consisting of figs, honey, fruit and nuts. I think there's also alchoholic versions with rum or similar drinks added.
"That was really a bomb? This is a sick world we're livin' in", lol this is definitely an enjoyable movie that, despite some of the hate it received, I think some people out there who judged this movie forget that it's family fun also aimed for kids as well. Jingle All The Way 2 was funny in parts, but I didn't enjoy that one the same. It also took me a while to figure out who Larry The Cable Guy was lol
going postal was a real thing. I don’t know when it started, but it was a horrible thing. The Postal Service used to put so much pressure on their workers to where some just snapped.
@@mildredpierce4506 Right, during the mid-1980s there was a rash--a whole series--of killings at postal facilities by postal workers. While it wasn't very frequent, it was frequent enough over several years that "going postal" became a meme, and as time passed it became more of a joke. By 1996, when this movie was released, the meme was still in use, although it would die out a few years later. It certainly wasn't funny when it was happening a decade earlier, but as Mel Brooks once said: "Tragedy plus time equals comedy." 🤷♂ By the way, similarly it sure wasn't funny when at least one person (I think more) was literally trampled to death while fighting other Christmas shoppers for Cabbage Patch Kids dolls in 1983, but over time we were eventually going to get parodies of this sort of madness, which this movie also was.
I love this movie, Arnold and Phil's back and forth and Arnold and Sinbad hilarious. I love it "Who told you, you can my cookies?" Lol, ted was trying to catch a case lol. I was wondering if you were gonna catch Big Shows cameo. This movie released early in Shows Career when he was slimmer and wrestling in WCW as The Giant. The second duo Myron mentioned was Jonny Quest and Hadji. It was a famous cartoon from the 1960s. By the way, Sinbad adlibbed most of his lines, and Arnold adlibbed many of his, too.
This movie ultimately has a positive message, with a child raised as a consumer learning the meaning of Christmas as being giving and family rather than empty objects.
Just in case you were wondering, the little Santa that got punched and sent flying was none other than Verne Troyer aka Mini Me. Also worth noting is that Jamie was played by Jake Lloyd, the same guy who was Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode 1.

We lost Phil Hartman waaay too soon. The guy will always be a legend.
This movie came out not long after the "Tickle Me Elmo" fiasco in the 90's where there was a shortage of Tickle Me Elmo and everyone wanted one.
True. And in the early 80's it was Cabbage Patch Kids. People were fighting each other in the aisles and going crazy for those things.
