    I worked at Toys R Us years ago and two crazes that actually broke out into fistfights were cabbage patch dolls and tickle me Elmo. People went batshit crazy over those two.

    Love this movie. RIP Phil Hartman, he was so funny and Sinbad is hilarious, too.
    Also, Ted's line after Howard got caught stealing the toy from under the tree, "you can't bench press your way out of this one" is comedic gold to me.

      @osmanyousif7849 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Which still annoys me that this was the supposably the best child actor they could find for a role like this and to play Anakin. Seriously, it really baffling.
      And before someone starts saying, "Come on, he was only a kid.", let me just say that's not my issue. My issue is the fact that the actor they decided on feels very mis-casted here. I'm all for seeing a comedy movie or show about either obnoxious little boys or perfectly cute sweethearts. But there's and wrong way to do that. As a director or writer, you can't rely on just the child actor to be doing one or the other just on their youthfulness. Jake Lloyd performance here feels very unfocused and phoned in, that even when he's trying to be cute it feels like he's acting like a brat or when he's acting like a brat, it doesn't feel like it.
      I think a good comparison to see what I mean is looking at the kid Max from Liar Liar, which is a story about a father who works too much and lies to his son on why he failed to be there for him. The actor feels like how a kid should act without needing to rely on being too cute or acting like a spoiled.

      It's fun you made the comparison of Christmas with the Kranks, because I don't enjoy that movie nor Jingle All the Way, and now that I think of it, don't like Decks the Halls. It's hard to nail down why -- love Tim Allen movies, Jamie Lee Curtis movies, and most of Arnold's; also love Christmas Vacation and Scrooged. Maybe it's just the "dad is an idiot" movies that bother us, where it's more acceptable if the entire family is a bit of a write off. Regardless PiB reactions are terrific.

    I think what I really love about jingle all the way now that I watched as an adult, is the subtext that Jamie really likes turbo man, because Turbo Man fills the void that his dad has create. His dad is constantly working and not being with him during events. And when Arnold decides to start keeping the promises, it's his way of saying he was going to step in to the role of dad and be physically present in his son's life, which is why it makes sense at the end that Jamie gives away the little action figure to Sinbad. Yes it is silly and ridiculous, but it does have a heart, and that's why I watch it every year.

By October, it was in high demand and we began to get approached by strangers with offers to buy it. In '87 I wanted a NES, I was five, it was sold out everywhere. My mom told me years later, she went all around the city; to multiple Lionel, Toys-R-Us, Kaybee, K-Mart etc., but no one had it. It just didn't exist in Florida. She tried to break it to me early that I might not get one but I said something like, "Its okay mom, Santa is going to bring it, don't worry." Which made her panic even more. She then went to Albertson's, a local grocery store, to rent some movies to keep us busy while she was planning to go out looking again and what did she see on the top shelf? A NES with a little TV Tray particle board holder for 10$ more as a package deal. She called up pops and asked if he was okay with spending the extra money and he said, "Get it now before someone else does!" That Christmas morning we all played Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. My pop woke us up later on saying he beat the game only to have Toad say that he was sorry but the Princess was in another Castle. Then he went to the fish level. Good Times.

My in-law’s all work(ed) for the past office (MIL postmaster, FIL rural mail carrier, SIL mail carrier, cousins in law contact carriers) and there’s no point in trying to get together between Thanksgiving and Christmas; they normally didn’t get home until 9:30-10:00 at night every night. Before my MIL and FIL retired, I would take the first week in January so my wife could have actual time with her family.

    The more I've gotten older, there is a stark contrast between December 24/25th as a kid vs as an adult. As a kid, everything is magical because Christmas envelops you. Schools have decorations, the town is lit up and your home is decorated. As an adult however, YOU have the be the one to make it happen. Living in an apartment far from family makes the holiday spirit even harder to come by and even having a party with friends, just doesn't hit the same. To that, there is a reason Christmas is synonymous with family. All that said, it's movies and shows that take us back to those times. Watching movies like these remembering the old times when the world ONLY revolved around the holidays and now you can stay indoors watching Netflix and the like with zero regard to the holiday seasons. That's why I like watching movies that elicit that feeling again, and this one is near the top of my list. :)

    Every time I go to the bathroom, I think of Arnold Schwarzenegger kicking a door. In fact, that's what I did when I asked permission to go to a restaurant's bathroom when I had a stomache😂. Thank you for making this movie reaction.

    Happy holidays to you and your family! Arnold Schwarzenegger also starred in the movie "Maggie" with Abigail Breslin (Emma Stone's younger sister in "Zombieland"). It's a surprisingly good post-apocalyptic zombie film where Arnie flexes his acting chops. Here's to more great content in 2024!

    I remember when the toy to get was a Cabbage Patch Doll. People were literally fighting for them in the store. I also wanted one and my parents took me to Toys R Us so I could pick which one I wanted. When we got there, there was only one doll left on the shelf. I didn't care what it looked like, I still wanted it, so I grabbed it so happily. I had run ahead of my parents because of my excitement and was alone in the aisle. A woman literally tried to grab the box out of my hands. My parents arrived, seeing me struggle to hold on to my box. The woman then lied trying to say I took it from her! My parents were not having any of it, and another lady stood up for me saying she saw what happened. Things got a little intense, threats of cops being called were made but I got my Cabbage Patch doll!. I still have her today, along with the other ones I later adopted from the Cabbage Patch 😂

    In the 50's when there was only 3 national/network T.V. channels, after school until about 5 p.m. & Sat. mornings were dedicated children's cartoon programs. Advertisers would have special toys, etc. that you had to mail in so many box tops from their products & maybe a dollar or less. I remember one program where you received a sheet of plastic that stuck to your T.V. set. You could take a marking pencil & draw on your T.V.'s screen whatever they told you to draw. My mother walked in as I was drawing on our T.V. & she almost had a heart attack. I also remember a toy submarine that you filled with baking soda or powder (?) & it would sink & then rise to the surface while you were playing in the bath tub. That's when we weren't outside shooting our Daisy Red Ryder BB guns!

    I've always loved trains and when I was little (under ten), the one toy I wanted more than anything was a ride-on train set called The Mighty Casey Railroad. In my imagination, I envisioned having tracks set up all over the neighborhood. Of course in reality, it only came with an oval of track and other pieces had to be bought separately. Unfortunately, I never did get it. My parents said that it was just too expensive.
