I was a big Rod Roddy fan as far back as 1958, long before he was a well-known announcer on "The Price Is Right." Rod was a disc jockey who helped usher in the Top 40 era when hosting the "Hot Rod Roddy Riff" from 6 to 9 a.m. on the legendary KOMA (1520, Oklahoma City) radio station that boomed rock 'n' roll throughout the entire West and Southwest during nighttime hours. Rod Roddy and the rest of the KOMA DJs hooked me on the Top 40 format, and I still have so many fond memories of that era.
@DENo1MatchGameFan Well I think we can agree that Rod Roddy was a fantastic announcer! And I think it's quite humorous that on the series finale of the short-lived Game Show "Hitman", for the Contestant plug Rod said "If you would like to be a contestant on Hitman, forget about it. And now back to you Peter!". LOL
"The Price Is Right" is a "structured" show where the late night shows are "open structured." Meaning on TPIS you have a limited time (maybe 30 seconds) for extra speaking, whereas late night shows have an "open format" which is flexible and can talk on any subject from 15 seconds-60 minutes.
I can just see it now, Rod, Johnny O, Jay Stuart, Charlie O, and the rest of them are all having a ball, and looking down on us from way up there. Rod's probably looking at my mom a lot, as he remembers that he said those famous 3 words to her.
@Bourg Productions I read somewhere years ago that Bob & Rod weren't very fond of each other. Just what I read, don't know if it's true, it's also rumored that Barker & Johnny Olsen were the best of friends
It sounds like Rod's death hurt Craig more than Bob Barker. I trully think that is the reason that Craig Kilborn left CBS. Rod Roddy brought so much joy and happiness to everyone who was in his prescense. I really sadden by his death too.
Let's not forget that Rich Fields was Rod Roddy's replacement under tragic circumstances,so Rich is not doing that bad of a job & neither is Drew Carey replacing Bob Barker.Rod Roddy's infectious personality will never be duplicated by anybody!RIP my friend
One time I waited on him in 2001. I was a young gay waiter and he came in with two older friends. He was so excited I knew who he was and went to the car and signed a headshot for me. What an amazing guy!
Like I said in your last memoriam on CBS, say hello to Johnny Olsen for me! Not to mention Gene Wood, Mark Goodson, and Bill Todman! Now, where is Rich Jeffries?!
@DENo1MatchGameFan Though I disagree with you, just out of curiousity. If there really was a payroll dispute between Bob and Rod, did Rod actually get the higher pay rate for the Primetime Specials his agent insisted he got? Or did he just get the regular pay rate just like he got on the regualr daytime shows?
no offense to native Clevelanders Drew Carey and Rich Fields , but Rod Roddy will always be a legend compared to Rich Fields. No one will ever take his place , no matter who announces Price is Right, it's not the same.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 9 years now since former price is right announcer Rod Roddy passed away. I was devastated when I first found out about that & I still miss him as of today. Bryce Garrett.
Of course it did - the only person that hurt Barker with death was his wife Dorothy Jo - he didn't give a damn about anyone else on "TPIR" except for his ego trips! That's why you don't see any of the 'classic people' from the 70's, 80's, and 90's still working on the show cause he fired them all!
No, because Bob Barker had a falling out with Rod before his death, took away his camera appearances because of it, and Rod died an angry and bitter man because of it - a hellva way to treat 'the family', right? FYB!
Rod Roddy gay? How can that be? We are losing a lot of people from even Don Pardo who past two or three years ago. RIP to the announcers that we lost. Even some of the host like Peter Tamarkin, Gene Rayburn, Jack Clark of card sharks and wheel of fortune when he was announcing.
At the time of his death in 2003, CBS only reported that Rod Roddy was single. Unless there's more substantial evidence out there besides Internet rumors, I wouldn't believe for one minute that Rod Roddy was gay.
yeah, right. i just watched the e! true hollywood story on the price is right here on youtube and it turns out that bob barker was a monster. horrible.
I knew Rod for 50 years.
We worked many of the same places.
Great guy, Rod Roddy. Loved him, really.
Nice man.
Miss you, Rod.

Would you believe the tribute presented here was longer than the tribute on "The Price is Right"? Wow...
Which was an absolute crock of shit. F Barker.

And *Dick* Clark, too. He and Rod worked together on Pyramid.
I miss Rod so much, for he had a talented heart with his announcing.
God rest Rod's soul
5 years is a long time to not hear his voice
This was a better tribute than what Bob Barker did on the price is right
@Bourg Productions I read somewhere years ago that Bob & Rod weren't very fond of each other. Just what I read, don't know if it's true, it's also rumored that Barker & Johnny Olsen were the best of friends
Rod Roddy was more than a great announcer. He was an awesome announcer!
two CBS celebrities and Fort Worth natives, Larry Hagman and Rod Roddy, RIP!
"You know what Kilborn? Your interviewing is piss poor. Screw you, just do the news!" LMFAO
RIP Rod and Bob. I hope the two of you are continuing all the fun up there.
I'm here in 2020 because the world could use more Rod Roddys
rod was the best annoucer ever
LOL!!!! These clips were so cool. I miss Rod Roddy so much. Such a wonderful man who made us all smile. Rod, I hope you are making God smile.

I like to joke that Rod Roddy was an influence on Drew Carey, because they were both overweight, but lost a lot of weight while in TPIR.
One time I waited on him in 2001. I was a young gay waiter and he came in with two older friends. He was so excited I knew who he was and went to the car and signed a headshot for me. What an amazing guy!

@BMANBLAKNBLU And Peter Tomarken too!

ROD RODDY THE ANNOUNCER FOR THE PRICE IS RIGHT HAS DIED HE WAS 66.

@SaleGuy I did read he was gay.
No, because Bob Barker had a falling out with Rod before his death, took away his camera appearances because of it, and Rod died an angry and bitter man because of it - a hellva way to treat 'the family', right? FYB!
@RPSteve Well since Rod's camera time was taken away, I'd say that he didn't get the raise either.
COLON CANCER
@chinafakeeggs I never knew that Rod was gay. What I do know is that he is with God now.
The release from CBS News at the time of his death only said that Rod Roddy was single.
Wait WHAT?
Oooooh, such foul language coming from Rod.
Angie2343 LOL.
XDDDDDDDD

Bryce Landon it's probably those stupid tabloids spreading those gay rumors at the time...
yeah, right. i just watched the e! true hollywood story on the price is right here on youtube and it turns out that bob barker was a monster. horrible.
mazze00
just because it is on tv doesn't mean it is true.
Rod was reportedly gay at the time of his death. He had about 12 different male partners when he died. RIP Rod
Leslie Bell 1937-2003
I love Rod Roddy♥️♥️♥️🇺🇸
