For women's soccer they were offered the same deal as their male counterparts but they CHOOSE to take a deal that offered a lesser amount but included benefits. For those that have done the math they estimate with the cost of benefits they actually make more then the men and argue they aren't asking for equal pay but better pay (substantial bonuses for wins and benefits).

I can only speak for myself, of course, but my schadenfreude is a bit of glee at the misfortune of Rapinoe, individually, as well as the other team members, who stamped on the American flag, or took a knee during the national anthem. I cannot help but be offended, when someone who purports to represent something disrespects the very symbol of the thing they represent, especially that being my flag and my country.
However, I will try harder to not show my schadenfreude, and will pray the Lord grant me better understanding of others. ✝️🙏🏻

I appreciated your take on patriotism. Here is a similar quote from Chesterton (Orthodoxy):
Let us suppose we are confronted with a desperate thing - say Pimlico. If we think what is really best for Pimlico we shall find the thread of thought that leads to the throne or the mystic and the arbitrary. It is not enough for a man to disapprove of Pimlico: in that case he will merely cut his throat or move to Chelsea. Nor, certainly, is it enough for a man to approve of Pimlico: for then it will remain Pimlico, which would be awful. The only way out of it seems to be for somebody to love Pimlico: to love it with a transcendent tie and without any earthly reason. If there arose a man who loved Pimlico, then Pimlico would rise into ivory towers and golden pinnacles; Pimlico would attire herself as a woman does when she is loved.

I think the satisfaction is simply borne out of the fact that since Rapinoe and her compatriots made it clear that they are "playing for" or representing the US, fans therefor do not see them as "playing for" or representing the US. Moreover, when someone is disrespectful of your nation, of course you'll derive satisfaction when their hubris goes unfulfilled. I don't see anything wrong with that - "...for all who exalt themselves will be humbled" Luke 18:14 - to me Rapinoe and her mates are the Pharisee in Jesus' Pharisee and the Tax-Collector parable.

Embrace the essence of our existence, leading us toward the Resurrection - our ultimate fulfilment. While Heaven stands as a vital waypoint, our true end remains corporeal. Let's move beyond the divisive contrast of spiritual versus corporal, a departure from authentic Christian ideals. Drawing strength from those who opposed the Albigensian narrative, does this legacy resonate with you?
Consider the reverberations of history: mirroring the decline of former empires like the British, Roman, and Babylonian, the American empire now treads a similar path. Remember, our first loyalty extends not to a transient nation here, but to the Kingdom that beckons us forward. Let this truth illuminate our way. Listen to N.T. Wright to find out more.

The women actually negotiated for salaried positions and multiple million dollar benefit packages. The men opted for a pay to play scheme. The women lost their case, but US soccer “gave” them a new contract with a 50/50 split of the winnings of both teams. (Although the women contribute much less money to the pot than the men do.). The women were also allowed to keep the salaried positions and the multi-million dollar benefits package. So, in the end, the women are now making more money than the men while proclaiming that they are paid the same. It is an anti-capitalist and rather socialist form of payment. While I understand the benefit of politically natured videos, I was under the impression that it is not the duty of a priest, or a bishop, or a pope to be speaking of such things. I get that its possible that a priest can in fact have a degree in political matters therefore he merits the ability to speak on such things, and I also get that just about any lay person could speak on political matters if they so choose, however is it not true that priests are held to a higher standard in these regards of speaking publicly? There are, after all, representatives of our nation. A lot of deep philosophical conservations and very appropriate ones in this video. However Megan Rapino was coming form a position of pride (pun intended), arrogance, and probably atheism. In the physical world, an action in one direction is always balanced with an equal and opposite reaction. The same in the social world. You are seeing it. Like most American's, the behavior of that rapinoe woman rubs me the wrong way for a lot of reasons. Do I get satisfaction seeing the US women's soccer team lose? Like I say, it doesn't move the needle for me one way or another. Father Pine is correct when he reminds us that they aren't the enemy. The enemy is the enemy, the father of all lies who has always hated us and loves it when we make problems he creates our own. This isn't a matter of left versus right, it's good versus evil. Hating that woman doesn't do anyone any good. Reaching out and trying to help others home is the better way to go. Thank you Father for the solid commentary.

There’s no need for woke garbage but there’s plenty of it going around. Like someone I think it was Ben Shapiro said this woman gets paid a million dollars to play soccer. If she wants representation then she needs to either shut up and be that or shut up and watch a movie about what she wants. God bless Father Gregory.

It seems proper that seeing the public humiliation of the expressed enemies of God and Country is pleasing. It's also proper that I should desire, and pray, that humiliation like this should aid those who are in need of humility and gratitude before God and Country should receive and cooperate with grace such that they become shining examples of godly and patriotic American athletes.
This would be consistent with hating sin but loving the sinner as Jesus would have us do.

I'm not a fan of soccer in general, so her situation is one I've been viewing over the years from a 10,000 foot view. But it just seems like the perfect storm of poor choices and poor conduct. Mistreating her teammates (supposedly), mistreating the flag, showing a cavalier attitude toward people who aren't that interested in what she does, "I deserve this!." You can't help but see her failure on her last game as a sort of chastisement. I think the worst part of her legacy is the incalculable harm she has done to the sport in America and the financial damage it could do to future women in the sport. For the foreseeable future, when people think of women's soccer, they'll think of her smug and conceited attitude. That's the reputation of the game now. Awful.

While I do not assume Fr. Pine is intentionally caving to the LGB cult, we must not surrender our language and truth. Megan Rapinoe is not married.
Also, on the pay gap it needs to be said that the women negotiated for the benefits and pay they receive and chose the safer route (more benefits, less money regardless of win/loss) while the men's pay is higher with much lower benefits and more highly dependent on win/loss.

If two heterosexual atheists went down to the courthouse and got married, you would refer to them as married. They, of course, did not enter into a covenant with God, but they are married according to the law of our country. And we call those people “married” all day, every day, without concern. Megan is married according to the law of this country.

Most Christians were totally justified in rooting for the cancer of the team and the program (Rapinoe) to be excised. I've been following US and world women's soccer since coaching girls and playing coed with women since the 1970s. I coached with Mia Hamm in the summer of 1988 and trained with and went on a few dates with one of the captains of the first World Cup winners, the USWNT of 1991. Rapinoe rode the 30+ years on the backs of these pioneers like a parasite for her own self-centered pleasure. She hurt the team and program that helped her. Good riddance for her last US women's game coming up. Then we'll find out if the leadership is going to continue following her destructive path or will revitalize with team players who appreciate the country that gives them such fantastic opportunities. Christians and most good people root against those who bite the good hand that feeds them.

Wow, lot of comments about how she is not “married.” She is married according to the law of our country. She did not enter into a covenant with God in a holy marriage. BUT neither did the two atheists you work with. Two agnostics can get married at a courthouse and we call them “married,” even when we know that they do not believe in God. Why? Because they are married according to the law of the land in which they are citizens. C’mon guys.

Father, I dont follow soccer...but does celebrating the outcome of a game of spectacle rise to level of celebrating one's "defeat"? Is a game that relevant? In what way was Rapinoe "defeated"? Did she lose her job, income, life, soul because she lost the world cup? Aren't those celebrating the loss actually celebrating JUSTICE? I think this is much ado. We musn't hate this wayward soul. But I dont see anything wrong with satisfaction over justice served especially in such a benign context.

Her attitude against goodness (American greatness) is why she lost support. Shoving her homosexuality in everyone’s face wreaked of unnatural law and a spit in God’s eye.
As a vet, if they kneel, I won’t watch or support any longer; if they turned their back on the flag, I don’t support or watch; and if they try to force me to accept their sins, I don’t support or watch.

    Regarding sports and compensation.
I think that one of the things that angers people regarding sports figures complaining about their pay, or fighting for more pay, is that the rest of us work at jobs that actually matter for society. We actually keep society running, and, by comparison, most of us get paid peanuts. Athletes on the other hand play games for a living, and get paid absolutely ridiculous amounts of money to do it.
The idea that they need to be paid more is, in some ways, an insult to the rest of us. Especially since the cost of attending sporting events has also reached ridiculous levels.
Now, on the other hand, they get paid ridiculous amounts of money to play a game, because we as a people have placed an absolutely ridiculous emphasis on entertainment. Sports rake in insane amounts of money, and why shouldn't that money go to the athletes rather than to the billionaire team owners?
I think the women's sports thing ultimately boils down to anger that their sports aren't as popular. I think there is a tendency among some to view this as discrimination, and therefore immoral. This also angers a lot of people because where does some athlete get off telling me that it's wrong of me to not care about their sport?
From my perspective, I think it is really a sad commentary on our culture that we spend so much on sports, and we compensate people like teachers, police, fire fighters, scholars, etc at such a low level.
We expect those people to serve us for nothing, and we are willing to pay millions to be entertained.

  • @wishIwuzskiing
    @wishIwuzskiing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

On the equal pay debate, it's a very simple issue. Any sport is happy to pay any athlete or team in proportion to revenue generated. But the money has to come from somewhere. The false notion is that there is this unrelated giant bucket of money that pays sports. To pay athlete's or teams the same because they play the same sport is illogical and unsustainable. Minor league men's baseball doesn't pay the same as major league. Why? Both are men's teams, both play baseball. Attendance and associated revenue is wildly different. This isn't a men vs women pay gap, it's a 50,000 attendees plus TV ad revenue vs 5,000 attendees and relatively little revenue. And everyone knows this. If womens soccer filled the stadium they would get paid more. This isn't about pay, it's about fanning the already raging flames of division and resentment. Evil will use any division to break relationship and community in this case the multiple points of men vs women, rich vs poor, along with the cultural division.
