The notch is not for temp accuracy. It must be inserted to that line to protect the electronics. If you don’t insert it that far, you will fry your thermometer.
just watched your Meter+ video. this is our inaugural voyage with the Meater+ Your video is very helpful and got me past some questions I had, unsure about a few things but you cleared it up. VERY MUCH appreciate you getting right to the meat of your video (see what i did there-lol) without any extaneious jabber. in under 10 minutes i was on the grill with a couple nice looking chichen breasts...and the meater is updating internal temp at 76, Target 162, ambient 308 (using indirect), and 22 minutes left. thanks again for the superb video! I have a Meater and it is awesome. I have cooked a lot with it. However I did no know about the charging base being a repeater. Thank you Dave for that information!
I was on the fence about this. After watching your great video, I’m sold! Very through and informative, but you didn’t ramble for 30 minutes, just the way I like videos, thanks!
Just to clarify, if you have a second device, with one connected to your wifi, and both connected to your cloud account, you don’t have to be within your home’s wifi range to read your cook settings. You can take your phone with you, miles away, and still see your cook settings. Thanks for your review. Subscribing to your channel
Very cool. I have three different brands of this type of thermometer, but the Meater is the one I use the most, and I find it to be the most dependable.
Which do you prefer between the Meater Plus and the ThermoPro TP25? Which do you think is the most accurate? I have a 15 degree deviance between my ThermoPro and Meater Plus. The Meater Plus has the lower temperature. Appreciate any feedback!
I got one and it does not like my smoker with 3/8" thick cook chamber and my ugly drum smoker that's way less thick like maybe an 1/8". It looses connection when i close the doors on both pits.
I’m not sure about that. That sounds pretty thick. This thermometer was the older version of the Meater where the probe doesn’t really have that strong of a signal. It relies on the base station to repeat the signal and send it out further. There are many new versions of thermometers, that use a much stronger signal coming from the probe.
Dave, great video. I was wondering if you noticed a difference in ambient temperature readings. Mine seems to be reading a lower temperature than my pellet grill’s setting. Thanks in advance!
Hi Dave, Meater's own instructions on TH-cam says the battery is rechargeable. Mind is alkaline. Also, they never talk about the tab on the + end that needs to be removed. In the video it isn't even there or mentioned that they took it out for the video. I found it by accident after pushing the button and not getting a light. I pulled the tab thinking it was to remove the battery and then it worked. You also explained that the AAA battery must charge a rechargeable in the black handle of the probe. Is that right? Also, 'can' we use a rechargeable AAA battery in the case?
Good review Dave. Lots of info. I've seen these but have been hesitant to get one because of the thickness. Nice for for bigger cuts. Hopefully as the tech gets smaller well see them get a little thinner for smaller cuts.
I agree. The probe is rather large, and the range isn’t quite as far as advertised, but I do like the completely wireless feature. Especially for my pellet grill, which doesn’t have a probe port, yet.
Sorry mine was consistently 15 degrees off I reached out to the company and they state all requests are dropped in 5 days So bad product bad customer service!
I have the Heater plus....bought it this month....CRAP !! Bluetooth sucks. I have to be 5 ft any from my smoker....that where the base is. I can't go into my house without dropping connection. On a two hour smoke it dropped connection 17 times in the first hour....I quite counting after that. Tip was clean, meater was fully charges. NO walls or obstructions when it was dropping.....Again...CRAP.
Just got mine. Can't wait to try it. I think it will live on the side of my refrigerator when not in use.

Just used my Meater 2+ for the first time. The pork chops came out perfect.
It’s a neat little gadget, isn’t it.

That’s only with the MEATER +. I don’t think the original MEATER works that way. Thanks for watching
Great job with your information 👍
I love my Meater+. I even bought the Meater Block because I liked it so well. Great review video!

I try no to ramble. Thanks for noticing.

this is confusing
I’m getting one of these for Christmas! I think it will be great for cooking on my Weber Kettle.

2:50 let it sit for 4 hours .. hilarous :-) that makes the whole video worthwhile just by itself.
It think that’s what the user manual said at the time. Charge for 4 hours.

Will the signal go through a steel insulated smoker thats about 1" thick steel and insulation

@ the walls of the smoker are 3/16":thick with one inch of insulation

I have noticed a slight difference, but my pit is pretty uneven so I always chalked it up to that.
Thank you!!
Using one very useful.
I have one, can you tell me how to change from celsius to fahernheit. Thanks
Yes. In the app, go to the three dots in the upper right corner. Go to settings, Fahrenheit and Celsius should be near the top.
good video bud

I think Meater is referring to the battery in the probe. The battery in the base, at least on mine, is disposable
I’ve been looking at these but my ink bird is still working great maybe when it fails
Understandable. I half melted my inkbird and it still works perfectly.

your link to Meater no longer works.

My dad left me when I was young
That explains quite a bit!

I just got one for Xmas 23, and it doesn't work out of the box. Charged it overnight, and it doesn't connect to Bluetooth
I wish I could get off their stupid Email list! I get Emails from these mutts every freaking day, this company is really irritating!
Agreed.
It's over-priced.
Yup, most of them are.
