Thank you for this great series and for this wonderful channel which is accompanying me since 4 years right now. Just got back to this first video I watched many years ago after learning about Ed’s tragic death. Thank you again Ed for all your amazing work as a comic artist and for sharing your love for comics with us. Rest in peace with all the other artists that you loved and shared your thoughts about on this channel. You deserved much better than this.

When that a-bomb hit, poor Dicky Dauntless was shouting out Miracleman's name, which was exactly the wrong thing to do -- that's why he had two bodies.

Moore’s Saga of the Swamp Thing re-ignited my love of comics, helping me appreciate the ‘ninth art’ more deeply. Would love to hear and see your take on his Swamp Thing run.

Book one chapter one is a reprint from the original Mick Anglo Marvelman with art by Don Lawrence, which isn't part of the original issue of Warrior #1 and isn't in Alan M's original script . It was added for the US Pacific/ Eclipse reprints. Not sure if It was added by Dez Skinn Or Alan M, but the "Science Gestapo / Nietsche" transition feels a lot like Moore.

Speaking later on in the video about how some of Moore's later ideas/characters were seeded in Marvelman, the two terrorists conversation panels at 13:35 hints to a Yank they'd met in Angola who'd seen a bomb go up - "He was a Comedian and no mistake..." 🙂

Have you checked out Ed Pinsent's 'Silver Age Superman'? It's a bootleg comic that amps up the paranoia and pseudo-psychological flavour of the Weisinger era. He was sending them out for the price of postage a few years ago.

Thank you Ed, Tom, and Sir Not Appearing in this Video, aka Jim. Thank you for the Cartoonist Kayfabe channel. It is a boon for the true comic lover's soul. In a day and time when so many people only give a shit about flipping a variant cover at a profit, these deep dives into comics classics are so appreciated. And now, a word from Neil Gaiman, who is also a mensch and a helluva sweet guy. th-cam.com/video/isLW0TTB2R0/w-d-xo.html

Very satisfying. I love the fact that you pointed out that Mike is doesn't look "exactly" like Miracle Man. That's great detail. I would have chalked it up to just art skills, but now that you mentioned it; I am even more impressed by the creators.
I wonder how much of the time do you think this sort of stuff happens? I assume it's less prevalent with "jobbers".

A question: What if Alan Moore had come to America early and DC had hired him to revamp Captain Marvel so that Miracleman was the new Captain Marvel? Would it have been as good, just as written? Miracleman is a wild departure from the source material, Marvelman, but Marvelman is inherently derivative to its core anyway. It's a very thinly-veiled Captain Marvel ripoff. It's not even thinly-veiled. To me, that makes it less offensive that Moore changed the intent of the original stories because there was very little, if any, original creator input anyway. But with Captain Marvel, it would have been very different. In a sense, the Miracleman-type storylines would have trampled on the intent of all previous Captain Marvel stories. It would have taken the character to places Otto Binder or CC Beck never imagined in their worst fever dream while suffering from influenza.
I bring this up because it gets at the double-edged sword of this kind of deconstruction. On one hand, a story can be a brilliant piece of work, but to truly work, it also has to fit cohesively into the intellectual franchise it is an extension of. So it's a very fine line. Here Moore must have felt more emboldened to ignore the second edge because of Marvelman's wonky history. It made the character closer to the alternate takes he did in Watchmen. Note that when Moore wrote Superman, he still found unexplored parts of the character, but he played nice with being part of a larger tapestry. Maybe that was editorial, but maybe it was Moore's own respect for the previous works.

    Miracle Man is amazing.
    The whole series is gripping.
You can see how well thought out ir is.
The wife has sex with Miracle Man and Mike Moran is actually upset about it, he feels inferior to Miracle Man.
Kid Miracle Man is driven insane by his own power. Why is hyper-psychotic in the way KMM is? I'm not quite sure its explained in that much detail but he's a full blown psycho.
    I enjoyed the series.

That juxtaposition of silver age and modern versions of characters seemed to strike a fannish chord with Moore; he went back to it on virtually every superhero comic he had a hand in creating afterwards.
