  • This weeks video is a flash back to my trip to @oaktree-motorhomes when I was having my lithium fitted. While there I had a few, what I thought were little problems but how wrong I was!
    My floor under the shower was completely rotten so much so it looked like mulch and compost!

    As a joiner of 40 years and counting, it looks like they did your work correctly. Only thing I might have looked at doing is leaving an inspection hatch at the area where your t connector is, just so you can give it the once over every few months. No idea if that is possible once your insulation is back in but lack of access is why you didn’t see the rot before. Anyway, looks like a good company.

    • @mickey1299
      @mickey1299 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually i like that idea , and it makes an awful lot of sense . There are connections under there , and they're sealed . My own Hymer has twin shower traps under the tray , and flow can be a bit slow , makes me think a clean maybe needed . The traps are cleanable , but you just try and get access . Maybe i will add one , have to take a look , at whether that's feasible .

    I find it so hard to believe a manufacturer thinks it is acceptable to put a joint in an inaccessible place. I know sometimes you have to run pipework (gas or water) behind panels or even under floors....but do it in one length so it cant leak without being punctured. A joint can always leak.
    Its a good job you found some decent people who can fix problems like that.

    Glad i instead bought a Modular Ambulance…. aluminium and stainless steel supports and flooring with not a sight of wood below floor level anywhere (in fact the only wood is to support the foam padding so you don’t bang your head! (and my furniture lol)
    I guess £150k gets you a better box…

    • @davemurden3432
      @davemurden3432 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair Darran's van is quite old technology now and most manufacturers have moved to GRP panels and Aluminium framework now so even if they leak the water can drain out of the walls without causing any damage. Some of the early Alu-Tech Baileys suffered from water hitting the edge of the floor when it leaked through the walls but this seems to have been fixed in later models.

    It’s an absolutely horrible thing to find in a motorhome… A few years ago the kitchen area in my van became spongy, so after some frantic googling I bought a delaminating repair kit and eventually repaired the area myself from within. We now have a Panel van so that particular worry is no longer. I have to say though that I think you’re very brave admitting to it, as a future sale or trade in is very much out there. We live not too far away from Oaktree and have visited them on a occasions.

All wall mounted cupboard stripped out as the backs and underside had been water ingress for years, same mulch as your floor. All had to be renewed. Then all new 100% rewiring, 100% plumbing. Underside had been very carefully work upon to hide the ROT. I have so far used 8x4ft 4x4ft 1.4mm sheet steel to fabricate all new panels, old cut out, Oh and I'm on my 3rd roll of Mig wire, guess what I still haven't finished. I am totally disgusted with what has happened. Some people are smiley face but black hearts. I guess that the chance you take pay before you buy.

    Great Vid D man. I lived on narrowboat many years ago and those push fit bloody pipes flooded my boat with the entire contents of my water tank. Wrote off all the woodwork, walls and floors ..... luckily, it was only 1 year old and the company refitted it. Hope to see you again D at this years NEC.

      well you fitted them incorrectly as most people do, they dont cut the ends of with the right tool, fit inserts and dont push them till they bottom out. These are used in some of the harshest enviroments in the world with no issues.
      Most on these sites creators included are amature builds and learn from whatching videos with out the under pinning knowledge such as engineers like my self learn through training and experience.

      @@ollydogtravels9465 ...I didn't fit them and never stated that I had. It was a new build boat ...as stated above. It was fitted correctly (by a Marine engineer), it cracked and failed - hence why the company refitted my boat out from floor to ceiling under warranty. Nothing at all to do with incorrect fitting, amateur builds or incorrect tool selection.

    If anybody is buying a campervan and the seller tells you it's been lived in you need to be extra careful and check it well because condensation and leaks from a vehicle that's been lived in there is usually a lot of damage in places usually can't look at on vehicles that are not very old.. That's a good way of fixing the floor never thought of that👌...

    • @davemurden3432
      @davemurden3432 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That resin system is brilliant. The floor is rock solid after the injection and much more resistant to it ever happeing again. As Darran mentioned in the video it can be done from underneath at a higher labour cost to preserve the original flooring. If you do it from the top you can just stick a new layer of vinyl flooring over to hide the dowels.

    Those push fit connectors are crap even when they are accessible. The rubber o rings that make them seal, harden over time , and then they lose the seal and leak. My German van has tail connectors that are sealed with jubilee clips. They have never leaked and the van is 16 years old and constantly used
