Charlie looks into the lies TV tells us. He reviews Heroes, Have I Been Here Before? and The X Factor. Nicholas Parsons talks about Saturday night entertainment.
Can anyone tell me the name of the piece of music that plays between 00:04 - 02:00 (basically the backing over the Nicholas Parsons piece). I've heard it being used on a few episodes of Screenwipe and just never managed to find out what it is. I've been through the Spotify playlist that Charlie made up but can't seem to find it in there.
I really enjoy this show. Not least because it gives a glimpse into British television of days gone by and I find it hilarious how many of these shows I have never heard of but instantly recognize that they have been the basis for a number of parodies and sketches done by Monty Python or - for later shows - Not the Nine O'clock news etc.
"if you hit me at 40mph there's a 90% chance I'll die. If you hit me at 30mph there's a 90% chance I'll leave, please drive carefully, and always make sure to hit me at 30mph"
Hate to say, but Charlie Brooker is so much funnier here, i.e. when he was a bit podgier, didn't adopt the Channel 4-issued designer stubble - in fact, stayed the hell off channel 4, and was with BBC4.
@Jdjohnjd Man I just say you on part 2. Spread the truth elsewhere. If critical minds are so gullible that they can be sucker punched into submission by any amount of shows purporting to be aligned with their views then they do not deserve such an elevated title as 'critical'. I mean, have you not even considered the sillyness of telling people ON THE INTERNET to stop watching the TV show that they are not watching on television? But yeah, this series is great. Especially the poet.
It's Nicholas bloody Parsons! Nicholas Parsons: "I would like to spend an evening with Nicholas Parsons because...never, ever, ever, bloody anything ever"? Dreamytime Escort: You're pissed, aren't you, Nicholas?
It's still the anthem of Germany and isn't anything to do with the nazis other than it just happened to be the anthem of a country that was once run by them in the first half of last century.
Germany has since edited their national anthem, the one used in the credits is, I believe, the original version used during the 1930s/40s. So Person is correct in her/his view.
LOVE him pulling apart the terribleness that is X Factor.
Charlie Brooker I think I love you.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO EARN A MINK COAT!?
As someone from Tewkesbury I say we are very proud of our long history of stomping parsnips.

What you see is what happened
"Now I never realized that X Factor was part of Lars von Trier's 'Dogme 95' movement, but there you go."
Best line of anything ever.
You left this comment ten years ago. I hope you’re keeping well, mate.

@crazytosh1 LOL didn't think of that its probably why he hasn't been on it cos he would surely try to put 'everything" in.
At the end of the voice over at the end credits, you can hear her click a mouse

@Jdjohnjd For me it's just a way to remind me why I don't watch television (being the smug bastard that I am).
@hahaha430 It would need to be a 4 part special.
Being a graduate of nordic filmschool, I laughed by arse off at that comment! haha

@jeevesthepunk Did you manage to find it? I tried with no success :P
Did this just end with Charlie saluting the National Anthem of Nazi Germany whilst wearing jet black tape under his nose?
That's just how Charlie Brooker do
It's still the anthem of Germany and isn't anything to do with the nazis other than it just happened to be the anthem of a country that was once run by them in the first half of last century.
edbadyt But it was the national anthem of Nazi Germany.
But that was only coincidece, it was the anthem before and after the nazis under different political parties too.
