Shinemon is unbelievably amazing. Going into his anime I thought it was such a waste to make an anime about some loser. His growth throughout the anime is beautiful and so touching. I also adore how his avatar isn't based on anything big or crazy. He, and Misaki, just thinks Valkerion is cool. That's so unbelievably relatable how you go die hard on something only because it was so cool to you.
why did you ever think Shinemon was a loser... the heck? He was the mentor character who clearly knows his stuff but isn't involved with the main plot of the future generation of VG. I mean essentially he long fulfilled his character arc and is just helping others through theirs.
Satoru Enishi is probably my favorite character story/arc in all of Vg.
He‘s hospitalized with a medical condition that hasn‘t been cured, meets a girl who uses DI and bonds with her through vg. Then she dies of her condition. He uses DI in her memory and feels survivor guilt with it. He goes with ryuzu‘s ideal because he wants her back. Tokoha teaches enishi that it’s not his fault, and living through tragedy is part of life. Enishi resigns as branch chief and dark irregulars clan leader because of what he‘s done.
G Next starts his redemption arc, tokoha picks him for her team because similar to him, tokoha now has the death of someone who meant a lot to them, and she now has to find a way to get through her grief. Enishi is canonically a good fighter, but is going with no real emotion until he fights kamui. While fighting kamui he learns to strive to be better, to find passion and a goal, asking kamui to fight him again after he‘s found what can inspire him, and it‘s against kazumi where that idea blooms. He fights for his friends, for the pure idea that vanguard isn‘t a tool like he used to use it, it‘s a way for people to have fun, to make friends, to understand people. Kazumi then recognizes Enishi as one of the only humans that show what humanity is capable of. While enishi loses, he did find his passion, he wants to protect the idea of vanguard that he never had before G next, and is recognized for it. Ibuki offers him his branch chief position again and he politely accepts. Enishi‘s arc in vanguard is probably my favorite arc so far.
(You‘ll notice all of scharhrot‘s names after vampir is in relation to enishi‘s character development at that corresponding point in the show too and that's a really neat touch)
Edit: I didn't even go over his personality quirks, specific impacts on others, relationships with luna / am etc or his fights. I could go on for hours about this good boy
Edit 2: I say it's my favorite arc over someone like naoki because it feels so human. The arcs like naoki that can't find passion until VG is something that a lot of people can relate to, but for me myself I simply can't relate to that. I can relate a lot more to enishi struggling to find motivation and the amount of guilt he's felt for his past actions all feels very human to me and it's all done very beautifully.

Leon is my favorite character he had such boss units the fact that his clan was in control of cray and the reason royal paladin, shadow paladin, and kagro was sealed. He was a slept on boss, and the fact he change his ways great development. Aqua force is such a slept on clan.
Shion was the first character for me to feel like had gone through a very real struggle and his complete 180 as a character to take no crap from anyone was so different from what i thought i knew about him.
And then lets not forget the punching of Shoma. Instant. Respect.

Woah I’m surprised and super happy you put Chrono in S tier. I thought you were going to put him somewhere below S or even A. I remember when first watching the show when it aired I felt that everybody HATED him. I personally loved him and even more now that I’m rewatching the show funny enough. Also thanks to the Shimemon Arc I REALLY love and respect Mark so much more. Also I love G and now I really wish there was an English release for the manga 😭😭. If we get the G reboot at least we might kinda see stuff from the manga hopefully. Love your tier list 👌👌👌👌
Some funny facts about the differen voice-actors and characters of Vanguard:
- Chronos father changed VAs from G to Shinnemon (because prequel-season).
Now here is the thing: The old Voice-actor was the original Red Ranger from the very first Super Sentai Season "Himitsu Sentai GoRanger" (transl.: "Secret Task-Force Five-Ranger") called "AkaRanger" from 1975. Sentai, for those who don't know, is the series from which "Power Rangers" gets its fight- and Mecha-scenes. It's also one of the longest running action shows in the world with it 44. consecutive season having started airing in febuary. ("Kiramei Sentai Kirameiger", transl.: "Sparkling Task-Force Shining-Ranger")
His VA from Shinemon? Also voices a certain One-Punch-man. 'Nuff said.
- Koujis VA was picked for a very particular reason. He also was the VA for the main-character "Kabuto Kouji" from the legendary "Mazinger-Z" reboot from 2009.
Mazinger Z was the series that started the Mecha-genre as a whole and also shares its creator with other legendary shows like Devil-Man and Cutie Honey, namely the famous Mangaka Go Nagai.
- The actor on which Daigo is based on and voiced by also played the second host for "Ultraman zero", one of the most popular incarnations of Japans counterpart for Superman.
(No joke, Ultraman zero is to the Ultraman Franchise what the Unicorn Gundam is for Gundam). Legit shocked that Bushiroad never gave him an Enigman-deck because of that.
- Shions VA also voices the current MCU Spider-Man.
My favorite character is Kai, not just because he is cool, but also because the synergy that he has with Overlord. For me Overlord is like you in life getting kicked, but you have to stand up again and again and be stronger so you can keep on your feet. Kai is like that too he had a problematic life, but he did he's best to restand himself, over and over again. Also he's one of the most human characters, he felt guilty, fear, remorse,every action that he took, had their consequences. I just can't say everything about him because I love him for so many reasons.

Shinemon is my boi. He is the only person that posses the power of valkerion and astral deities. He is the reason i like genesis

I love Shion's character, he was my favourite by far. I thought his plot and development from girs crisis was some of the best stuff from vanguard. He had the best connections/bond with people (Kai, Ace and Shouma). His theme song is godly as well. It's actually dissapointing that black jacket shion isn't a skin on vanguard zero.
G next was a gift from the heavens because Team Fukuhara was such an amazing team. I would never have guessed that Rin would be on a team with Shion but they were and it worked because their personalities clash. Shion being smug/manipulative and Rin being angry and selfish. Also, Henry's wholsomeness completed the team dynamic and maintained the stability. This team was pefect and they were actually the most consistent. Wish the plot allowed them to win tbh.

DAMN SHOUMA LMAO
Shouma was so good in the anime and I’m so upset he didn’t get more big screen time after Stride Gate (lmao i don’t count his GZ appearances). His character where he just shows up and does some aggravating thing, yet you’re so enamored in it. His theme slaps and his deck goes hard. His play style in Stride Gate was AMAZING and I loved that in his one non Shion fight he absolutely dominated Wakamizu while talking about Fluctuations then hit him with the stand trigger

My S Tier is definitely Koutei, Kanzaki (the reason I got into Vanguard in the first place), Naoki, Shinemon, Miwa, Tetsu, Shion, Ren, Kai. Vanguard has a lot of fantastic characters that it's really easy to overlook some of them I feel. Like Shinonome is a really fun antagonist, Jun is really cool for the short time he shows up, and Jaime and Mamoru are really great mentor characters.

Onimaru Kazumi(Shiranui), he in my opinion is my favorite final boss of an arc during G. He gave off the old Ren vibes and it was great watching him tear through the cast. He was initially introduced in G Next and takes on the trope of beating the main character as his introduction, which would naturally rub some people the wrong way usually, but I found it done right. Up until that point Try3 sort of established themselves of being really strong fighters as Generation Masters so it would be hard to establish a villain to be on their level or above them and they really did well doing it for Kazumi.
He also had a great backstory as both Kazuma's older brother and Shiranui. If you line him up with all the main villains of each G arc he'd probably be the one with the most depth. Kanzaki was cool, but he didn't have much going for him outside what he showed on the surface. Ryuzu had some backstory and his motives were interesting, but it never really went anywhere outside Stride Gate(and I guess V). Gyze is just a plot device, all powerful lord of destruction, but no personality. In terms of motives Shiranui had a good one. Trying to stop fate from being controlled through Vanguard was actually an understandable motive, kids playing card games somehow changes things in your world, gotta put a stop to that. He was arrogant, driven by rage and sadness over the loss of his brothers. While using Kazumi and being a wall that prevented him and Kazuma from talking, escalating the drama between them. He was one of the best built up villains and it only took 1 season to do it and it was still satisfying to see him lose. Then there's Kazumi who you find out in GZ is just a really nice wholesome big brother after spending a season just seeing a completely different person, makes him feel a lot like post Psyqualia Ren.

Henry reminded me of how Ren almost fought Noa in G Z but Bushiroad didn't give it to us sadly. Was wondering if he will use Raging Rapt Dragon or Spectral Blaster Dragon because he would most likely get locked rearguards left and right

Edit: Very good vid. One pet peeve I did have was there wasn't more tiers. The list looked messy and adding more tiers would've helped it look cleaner. Other than that, I enjoyed it (nice to listen while in the background)

Miwa and Naoki are my two most favorite characters in the series so I'm just happy to see both in S.
I like Kai a lot more in the original series than in V especially with how original Kai definitely grows more, though in V he has more moments where he breaks character that I also like a decent bit. I like how they actually show how Kai ended up liking Dragonic Overlord, "I just like him."
For Baba Takeru, he got 2 episodes. He's very forgettable, yeah, but his awesome stride, Supreme Conquering Dragon, Conquest Dragon, on top of Tempest Bolt in his fight against Chrono made me go back to his fight a few times when it came out.
Olivier Galliard to me is a S tier cause in a Legion Mate, I think he took care in an orphanage and he saw the awful things that happen during the Reverse Invasion in his country. He seeks vengeance over Kai for what Kai initiated in Season 3 which is type of good character writing where a character out of nowhere wants to seek revenge from a character from a major bad event. (Besides Abby from Last of Us 2 because she is poorly written in my book). Also, Bluish Flame Liberators is absolutely my favorite deck in the whole entire game.
And he’s the only ‘rival’ character who beats the main villain

Kanzaki is just downright ridiculous. He is more than just talk and just I play by my rules kind of person. And I think the most ridiculous thing he did was shaved an entire mountain to carve his avatar on a 1:1 scale and breaks it with just a hammer fist, it came to life. I see what you mean by a meme villain he become 😂😂😂😂

@Differentfight Where's my boi, Onimaru? He is what set off G Next for Chrono and is important back story for Shouji. Also Ruga has more back story compared to most of the diff riders since he was Rive Shindou rival in V series, in the Shinemon Arc.

Favorite character in the entire series Shion.
He helped me redefine my perception of Royal Paladin as a clan and brave as a mechanic and as a new playstile made me love the game even more.
Considering just the og series I'd choose Miwa because he knows that there are times when he has to risk it all for their friends, especially when he went against Kai Reverse, even though he knew he had no chance to win he still went and fight him.
Well, Tatsuya did indirectly make Chrono an orphan.
