      My captains were just delivered. This is my first pair of pointed toe boots, so I don't really know how much room their should be between the end of my big toe and the front of the boot. With most shoes I've had, I consider between an index finger and a thumb width to be normal. In these I have nearly a thumb AND index finger's room. These are size 13. I usually wear 14 tennies, and 13 boots. Do I need to size down? Thanks.

      For the most part I love the design and comfort of these boots but may I suggest taking the heel down about half its size? The high heel looks a bit feminine. A lower heel would be more masculine and rugged but it would still maintain its dressy quality.

    I’ve put my pair of Thursday’s through two years of hard wear (and I mean hiking, backpacking, all over the continental USA, as well as regular wear) and they are honestly one of the best purchases I’ve made. It’s sad to hear from the comments that others haven’t had the same experience, but in my personal use, they’ve exceeded my expectations.
    1) Gorgeous, tough leather,
    2) Easy to maintain (two years + regular conditioning and polishing and they’re still in amazing shape),
    3) Comfortable as all heck,
    4) Age beautifully (Trust me, after two years, they look better than they did when I first got them),
    5) Amazing price.
    All in all, essentially a perfect all around boot for the price!
    PS. Great video, great channel!

    Im honestly stumped by the negative reviews thursdays get. I have 3 pairs and am pondering ordering a pair of presidents. My Captains are perfect going on a year, and while the internet may not believe me, I actually prefer the thursday desert boots to my allen edmonds dessert boots (im looking at you r/goodyearwelt). I've had zero quality control issues, they've worn well, and having a big wide foot its hard to find a pair thats just right. Whatever last Thursday uses is great for us wide footed few.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Right? They're really great. As I mentioned in the video, their first line of boots that came out after the kickstarter had a couple of issues but they have gone through many many (many) iterations since then, they're a different product now but a lot of the reviews that surface on reddit were from people who had the first run. I'm pumped to get a pair of Presidents myself, Josh, I'm thinking the Tobacco color. How about you?

    • @clarkeknt2577
      @clarkeknt2577 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am really tempted by the natural, but Ive gotta go black, I have enough brown boots but my sons german sheperd puppy ate my only pair of black boots, and since I cant justify shelling out for a replacement pair of RM williams right now I am looking for a cost efficient alternative, another reason I like these boots, bang for the buck.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha yeah the President boots in black would be pretty versatile, are you planning on wearing them with a suit? I'm always curious as to if people work Thursday into a suit.

    • @clarkeknt2577
      @clarkeknt2577 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Im going to give it a shot and see how it looks, as I do wear suits for work. however I have a belief that if you arent clerking for the supreme court or entertaining the queen, you have 2 chances as a dude to stamp some personality on your ensemble, your watch and your footwear. SO if you break the "rules" of fashion there, but just a little you look better and stand out. so I like playing it fast and loose with those most of the time.

    A lot of bad reviews on Amazon with photos. Scratches and scuffs, boots deforming, nails sticking in the heel, cheap insole, lace grommets falling out, laces too long and awkward in the holes, eyelets badly scratching the tongue, dark soles upper scuffing badly, soles tearing etc. Poor customer service. Buyer beware.

    I bought the Captain Arizona Adobe for my husband about 10 months ago and he really likes them, but they're not very durable like Thursday Boots said they would be. He used to wear them them about 3 times a week, up until the point when the stitching on the outsole started wasting away (about 4-5 months into having them). He works inside a building so it's not like they would've wasted away from rough terrain. Also, the outsole and midsole are splitting apart in the front and the sides. While some wear and tear is expected, he didn't expect that much wearing down so soon. He still really likes these boots and will be taking them to a cobbler, these are just some things to keep in mind if you decide to purchase from Thursday Boots.

    I own a pair of Thursday's captain boots with a Terracotta finish. I've had them four or five months now and have to say I love them. I agree with almost all of the information in your review. They are very solid, well finished and comfortable. I hope to have mine a long time. Two relatively minor points of disagreement with your review: mine scuff relatively easily. Those scuffs buff out with some minor polishing and regular care, so it's not a concern for me. Also, their sizing system is pretty accurate, although not perfect for me. I typically wear a size 8 shoe. I bought the same size of Thursday captains, but will occasionally feel my toes pressing against the front of the boot when I"m wearing a pair of thick socks. My next pair will be an 8 1/2. If anything, I would urge people to buy a half size larger than their shoe sizes. Thanks for the review.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting! Yeah with the fit it's important to remember that there's a ton of stuff that can affect it, not just size of the foot/shoe but also the instep, toe box height, a ton of things. So yeah, fit can vary! Glad you like 'em, I love the look of Terracotta as well.

      A cobbler on TH-cam, Trenton and Heath did a tear down of Thursday boots and found that they were quality. From owning a pair, they are pretty good, a little heavy from the construction, but they do a good job. They come in a more rugged rough out version (I got those ones, which I waxed into a really nice texture) as well as suede, but suede isn’t as strong usually. Having really shiny shoes is really in trend right now, especially in dress shoes and I guess Thursday’s photography is buying into that with a lot of their leathers, but they’ll probably not come as polished, and worst comes to worst, you can scuff them up yourself.

    The last leaves me cold. It's kinda symmetrical. The best lasts are antinomically correct and support your foot. A good last makes a boot feel like they're part of you. These boots force your foot to conform to the boot.

    This boot seems like it tries to be two things, yet is neither. I guess it is a casual boot that *could* be taken into the office on Fridays. It doesn’t seem tough enough for motorcycle duty, nor for a job site, nor for woodsy duty. I guess just walking around looking cool? LOL Not judging. This book looks really nice especially in this color, but I don’t know where I could wear it, other than walking around a city. Which i guess is just what this is for. Thanks for the review, I’m grateful for the information - I do think it’s an attractive boot, but I can see now that this boot is not going to work for me.

    I can anyone tell me about a break in sizing issue , I bought the UK size, 8 1/2, 9 , 9 1/2 , size 9 1/2, way too big in length and width, 8 1/2 length is fine width is way to small, so I returned them and thought the 9 would be fine , recently opened the box left it too late to based in UK, I find the size 9 there is a bit of heel slippage, nothing too much to worry about, but the width around the, vamp is very very tight, I've been wearing them around the house, I've tried the thick socks thing, wearing them for about an hour at most, however the vamp, is extremely still,, have not worn them outside yet, I'm just wondering, whether they will, loosen up, and feel comfortable to walk in , what is the break in period, have applied conditioner, still way to tight, I find the sizing a bit strange in these boots, so can anyone tell if they will actually break in , and be comfortable, thanks for any help

    I am a big fan of your channel, and you helped me get into boots, but I believe you are being disingenuous regarding the price/value. To say you would have thought Thursday boots would have been well over 300 dollars if not 400 is absolutely ludicrous.
    I purchased the Captain and President 4 years ago as my first quality boots. Since then, I now own Grant Stone, Red Wing, Truman and Nicks. All four of these brands run circles around Thursday. Grant Stone and Red Wing at 350 are obviously a major step up from Thursday and you know that. I won’t even mention Truman’s much less Nicks as there is simply no comparison.
    Thursdays are what they are. A quality boot for 200 bucks. It’s an erroneous lie to the viewers when you say they belong in the 300-400 range. No way in hell. Keep up the great work, but c’mon man, be honest here.

    well, “free returns” … until Thursday FLAGS you and then they ask you pay restocking fees no matter how many shoes you bought from them. I bought many thursday boots over the past two year but found that the sizing was always a lottery (ended up trying multiple sizes)… sizes vary from different leathers to style and even if it is the same boot … right now i have boots and shoes from Thursdays from size 9, 9.5, 10 and 10 wide… same feet though! I would call it inconsistent. Frustrating!

    I have a pair of these. They're alright at best. Ive worn them maybe 75 times in 2.5 yrs. Getting ready for a date the other night and the speed hooks popped off the boot. Contacted Thursday Boot company to try to get them repaired... Nothing... Crickets. So I hit up their facebook page and they freaking blocked me. Guys spend your $200 with a company who will stand behind their products and back them up. These influencers act like $200 for boots is inexpensive. Guy's, I had to bust my ass and save to buy these boots and this company wont even entertain a conversation about repairing a well kept, very lightly used pair of boots bought from them. I was proud to own them. Now I'm embarrassed to say they took my hard earned $$. I would've gotten better wear from a $50 boot on amazon and recieved the same bad customer service

Delivery, not received after two weeks of wait, is terrible and return is costly as you need to cover the international delivery fees. Just my personal experience.

    I just received my pair of thursdays captains today. If one believes in quality of the boot and look it as an investment for years to come, Thursday boot is not to go for. There are lot other boots from other manufacturers both US and imported that have way better quality of leather and craftsmenship. Redwings, Viberg, Whites, Meermin to name a few. To keep price low to beat competition, Thursday has cut corners with:
    1.Inferior leather lining that they tout it fancy as glove leather lining.
    2. Upper leather is not at all inferior but also definitely not highest quality as you would find on names mentioned and many other manufacturers from Europe. Leather used is thinner too. I would love to see how it would hold after 2 resolings.
    3. Footbed is not leather insoled that would mold to your foot over time.
    Then again it is ok boot for someone seeking step higher than Clarks, Timberlands etc under 200.
    I own Brass boot from Grant stone and Viberg. 150 more for those boots than Captains is definitely justified.

      Perhaps Japanese feet are different on shape(maybe wider). So suitable sneaker size is bigger than American’s.
      Therefore I recommend you to buy us8.5 or 9 concerning break-in. Thursday’s leather is soft, so it can widen (be expanding?).

      @@AXV22 Thanks, appreciate the help. I did contact Thursday Boot Co, but their answer was "don't worry, this doesn't affect the structural integrity of the boot." I personally disagree, as the action of the rubber peeling off the sole tears the rubber at the stitching point. At this point it's been too long since I bought them, so I'll have to get a repair done.

    The Thursday imitation dainite rubber sole is much thinner than actual Dainite. In other words, Thursday's version of Dainite will not last as long, will need to be resoled in a shorter amount of time, and will bald faster than the real deal. Also, the EVA insole is garbage. A solid leather insole with a cork midsole is adequate. The boots will stink like hell with EVA and textile materials inside.

  • @andrewfried3144

    As I said already the good year method is not the best. There is another method which makes the boot better and stronger. Since it is made in mexico naturally makes it cheaper. The construction is weaker. The good year method does not guarantee that the boot is waterproof. They only have 2 widths that is not enough to satisfy the public. More widths would make the boot more costly. If the rubber sole was only glued it would be better when it comes for repairs. A well glued attached sole does not need stitching and it is to repair. The grip of a sole depends mainly on the composition of the sole. Almost any boot can be made waterproof at the time of production but it makes the boot more expensive. The Thursday boot is acceptable for the price but it is nothing special. At $200 it is worth it

    Just found your channel. Great reviews!

    One question: should I get the neutral or the medium brown Venetian leather balm if I wanted to get the brown boots? Thanks!

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, I think if you're not married to the color of your boots you could get a colored balm, that could make it a bit more lustrous when you condition them, while Venetian shoe cream is a bit better at maintaining the current color, plus it *may* be better at getting rid of scuffs and scrapes (though I'm not quite sure how the balm works with scrapes when compared to the cream).

    • @ATProductions85
      @ATProductions85 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. So, the balm is different from a polish, right? Will the neutral (non-colored) balm still cover up minor scratches and dings on a brown boot like the ones featured here?

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't want to say the wrong thing here because I have another video somewhere where a company recommends balm over cream, the thing is these companies are weirdly secretive about the ingredients in these things so I can't point to the actual differences. I think the balm makes the boot a little shinier than the cream, like it's just a little bit closer to a polish. So I don't want to make a definitive statement either way, I just hear people recommend Venetian shoe cream a lot more often than the balms :/ Sorry I can't be of more help

    • @ATProductions85
      @ATProductions85 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stridewise No, it's good, man. I just want to make sure I get the right stuff to maintain my boots. I went to Thursday's website, and like you said, they had a bunch of gifs that broke down the basic maintenance process. They recommended the basic leather balm, so I guess that's what I'll go for. Thanks again for the quick response.

    I want to order my first pair of boots. Them being the Captain Tobacco but I want to know if you’ve changed your mind on sizing. I normally wear a size 10.5 with my Jordans and Nikes and that leaves me with some room in the toe but that’s how I like it to fit. I’ve never liked my toes to be right on the edge. Would you still recommend going a half size down? Once again this is going to be my first boot ever. Really don’t know how boots should fit or anything.

    Does Thursday Boot Company manufacture in Chinese sweatshops...employing forced (child) labour? I love how you glance over any information regarding Thursday's Founders' vast shoe making history and passion\ for the craft. Is this because Thursday is headed by a couple wealthy boot consuming entrepreneurs hoping to get more boot while paying workers less?
