Which would be better between the FDR-AX700 and the PXW Z90 for shooting live pop/ rock bands with huge light shows, dancers moving fast, must have CMOS (no smear) sometimes scene is very dark sometimes flashing, overlighted, with a lot of smoke, I shoot very close from the scene (between 0 and 5 meters) and must have very good stabilisation... ? Must have good a autofocus as I'm using zoom toggle almost permanently and also a manual aperture lever.
Your color grading is on point! Ive been looking at this camcorder for skating, mountainboarding and snowboarding. Is the lens 62mm threads Id love to put a nice fisheye on it for skating

Hi Mako, Really good review as I was thinking of upgrading, but see no advantage as yet, because I have the previous model (PXW-X70) which am very happy with and use it for capturing talent positioning & blocking, and also background documentary footage inbetween main filming. This camera gives a freedom of movement and and total ease of working, as it is is so well balanced in comparison to a Sony A6400 which I also own and use for other work. Personally with good lighting, I always leave its settings fixed to 4:2:2 @ 10Bit 50MB/s datastream HD 1080P, as the quality of its picture detail is perfect for whatever I need to use this small handy camera for.
Hi Mako, thank you for this great video. I work with this camera and I love it. I am struggling a bit to match footage with my BMPCC4k. What PP would you recommend me to shoot on? I am mostly shooting on Braw in my BM, I would like to be able to do colour correction /grading on the Sony footage. I use DaVinci Resolve. I have to film a jazz concert next Saturday and I be really grateful if you could answer my question.

Who is the Z150 for? I really can’t decide on which camera to get . I like how small the Z90 is... but the Z150 seems to be better if your trying to go for a cinematic look
Guys guys.. evythin is cool about these new elegant cameras. But what's not so cool is they dont tell u the basic to basic requirement. It dosent shoot in MP4 or MPEG files. It shoots in AVHCD, the most problematic format. U have to pay around 500 $ more to get it to record for ur simple mpeg mp4 videos. Its definitely not for youtubers. Or long shooting formats .. Also battery drains fast . Ofcourse it has some new 5G wifi !!!!?

Great review man. I own the nx80. I'm happy to see you decided to use a camcorder for filming sports. There are some that would've used a mirrorless camera for that one size fits all kind of shooting. I had a viewer who told me the z90 actually has a better image than the z90. Have you used the nx80 before? I was wondering if you could confirm or deny that. Why did you choose the z90 over the nx80, out of curiosity?
When you pull a long video clip off the camera and put them onto your computer, does it stay as one single file or does it get broken up into multiple files forcing you to put them back together in your editing software?
@@makosports do you have to use the follow focus? Isn't the af in the cam good enough? Beautiful shots. We are more run and gun and try to avoid extra tools. Is the inbuilt stabilizer good enough for shooting a host talking to the cam, mpvong, within 2 meters away? Best Mads 😊
idk pretty disappointed with the focusing system of this camera. I've used similar Canon and Panasonic cameras but this Sony doesn't let me control the focus as great as I would like to. Especially with not being able to use the focus ring to make manual adjustments to autofocus. Unless I'm missing something, anyone have any tips?
@@makosports Yeah but I think it's just the whole focus by wire system. It's just tough to make manual adjustments when shooting action and players of course running and cutting across the screen. That would be easier to do with many other older cameras but I guess that's the trade off for size. I also have a Sony A7IV, but capturing video with a mirrorless is a different story in itself especially with of course having the actual lens to be able to adjust. But damn, if only I had waited a week or two, I probably would have snatched up the Z200

i use the ax100. it its fine but sometimes at a a night game it looses focus and i have to just wait for it. looking to upgrade to the 700

To be fair this camera is almost 7 years old now. The new Z200 looks like a good upgrade from it.
