What a presence! Those who criticize her singing are missing the point--she's not a vocalist nor does she pretend to be. Just wonderful!

I love Gypsy Rose Lee! I met her when I was 12 and asked for her autograph. She was so sweet to me. I still have the autograph she personally inscribed to me.What a great lady!

"Sing OUT, Louise!" . . . why her stage mother had to say that. I agree with comments that her personality and clear delivery put over the song . . . but too she's on key (if a little flat) and her contralto voice is pleasantly sincere, authentic.

Remember watching with my grandmother Gypsy's morning TV show in San Francisco. She was a " vivacious personality." Great morning hostess....always, laughing , outgoing, and funny. She left an impression on me considering I was around 5-6 yo...... Amazing

Yes, but who cares about the quality of her singing when she is such a great entertainer? She manages to get the words across clearly and her dancing always excites.

She's a true legend. She wasn't a wonderful singer, she was the first to admit that but she had bags of personality and oodles of style and in her youth was a true beauty. The musical 'Gypsy' based on her autobiography is wonderful but is full of half truths. The real story is much darker and far more interesting. What a character.

I love Gypsy Rose Lee what a woman she must have been. I think she was beautiful and sexy. I love this film clip I watch it a lot She sure had class and great style. I am 60 years old I saw the movie Gypsy when I was young with Natalie Wood and I loved it. I loved her story of how she grew up and that's when I started liking her. I think I remember her show she was still pretty on it. She was a great lady.

THIS is the most I ever heard the real GYPSY ROSE LEE "sing" - I mean, I know she was not a singer, but I've never even seen her perform at any length, as her movie appearances seem far, few and in-between - what obscure movie is this scene from? THANKS for posting!

Gypsy Rose Lee was on a TV game show where she said the GOLD dress she was wearing was also the dress she wore in Screaming Mimis. And that the dress weighed a full 28 pounds. (They later put the dress on a scale to prove it!)

Mattle - On this video, you asked "Who is this? I've only seen the one with Rita Hayworth." This person is Gypsy Rose Lee -- THIS is the "original" - the person that Rita Hayworth was imitating in two movies (a song in Pal Joey). She was a legendary vaudeville performer and stripper. You saw Rita Hayworth do her -- this is her !!!!

It's unfair to compare her with Rita Hayworth on this number. Gypsy didn't have Columbia Studios producting the number. Plus, Rita's voice was dubbed (by Marnie Nixon?) Rita was also one of the greatest dancers of the time. Still, Gypsy had her own magic and made the most of it -- mostly, on her own.

Those of you complaining about her vocal ability need to go away and listen to your Beyonce mp3s instead. Plenty of singers have good voices, but a truly great vocalist is measured by their personality and delivery, not by how many notes they can hit.

In her show Gypsy showed as much as she would show wearing a nice swimsuit. Her show was much about illusion and humor and just a little about sex. That's how she became a success while most of the other strip specialists never got out of terrible hotel rooms and terrible loneliness. Gypsy was anything but lonely (her son's father was Otto Preminger).
