  • Alex and Stephen head to a storage unit after winning it online. Watch as we go through the boxes and see what we find!
will it be a big win? or big bust as we gamble on this unit!

What I like most about Alex is that once he takes possession of an object, he sees to it that it is either sold, passed off to someone else to profit from, given to goodwill , or properly recycled. If more people approached their possessions like he does, there might be less need for storage units. Alex, thought he does make a profit, he deserve it for the service he does for society in properly dealing with our limited resources.

His gestures were so nice, I love how he handles stuff. But for me, the most important gesture is going out of his way just to get the person's documents back. I'm not gonna say the cliche "where I come from people don't do that", but I've genuinely never seen someone do that, he's a great rolemodel.

I want to commend you on how much respect you have for the items that you find. You watch shows on TV and they literally just throw things in a pile looking for that "big score." It always makes me sad, because often times that is someone's life in that unit. Someone who either passed away or could simply no longer afford to pay the storage fees. That was myself and my husband 25 years ago as a young new couple. We had to move unexpectedly and put most of our belongings into a storage unit. Hard times hit and we lost the unit to auction. After all these years I still think about some of the things we lost (and Im not one to become attached to belongings AT ALL) but my husbands firefighter of the year award was in there. It warms my heart when I hear you say that you will return personal items etc to the owners. It would have meant the world to me for someone to have done that for us. So thank you, from someone who can relate to that situation very personally.

I've worked at a few storage places and they are ruthless when ppl fall behind. One poor girl had junk furniture. She kept falling in arrears and paying late fees and locked out every month. Told the manager that I told her to put her stuff in a yard sale and buy new when she could. He said "Don't tell her that! Those late fees are our bread and butter". This was a huge company making money hand over fist. She was pregnant and bf left her and working at a pizza place. It'll kill your soul to work in storage too long.

I had a friend that put everything in a storage unit and had to move across country. She couldn't find anyone to help her move her stuff. Luckily the owner helped her out until she could get back on her feet. The first thing I asked her was did she leave her photo albums behind... She said yes. My heart sunk. These auctioned storage lockers always break my heart. I know for many they only see 'stuff' and it's really exciting... But those things were someone's most precious belongings once. They rented a storage unit because they didn't want to lose those things. Then who knows what happened, and they failed to pay the monthly/yearly fee. It's really sad to think about it, when an outsider gets their hands on those things.

i only have one comment for you and for anyone else who buys a storage unit. please be gentle with your thoughts towards the person who lost it. I lost a unit because my husband and i were promised a job by his brother several states away, and so we went with our six month old and all we could fit in the car. Everything else went into a storage unit. well, there was no job and by the time my husband could get one, i lost all of my things. There was a dollhouse that my grandfather had made and given to me... a set of dishes that was passed on to me by my grandmother...man, so many things.

If there are any loot cards in that Warcraft pile, chances are the previous owner already used it. They can only be used once to collect in-game rewards, and as he seemed to have been a gamer, I bet he'd have used those cards already. But if you find unused loot cards, that's some dang nice money right there! Basically just check if the "scratch off" code has already been scratched!

Only time you'll find something worth while is if the locker was owned by someone that passed and the beneficiaries don't know/don't care about the items inside. NEVER DO THIS AGAIN ! Buying storage lockers may be legal but it sure as hell isn't moral. What you are doing is buying things Stolen from an owner that probably had no idea all his stuff was just sold. Falls behind 2 months and it's sold. The storage facility has to make sure you are aware....but THEY DON"T . They have no motivation to do so. This poor guy lost very little here. 15 years ago I lost 40 -50 K dollars just this way. I never recovered the loss. This is preying on the unfortunate. Please never participate in this greasy side of the business again.

I really love that personal documents and information are returned to the owner, they take care to pass off things that could benefit others to people that can work with them, stuff is donated, and trash is hauled away responsibly.
My uncle had lost his house after a deep depression, where he literally just gave up and left the home before it was even closed. We lost family heirlooms (including flags from the caskets of military in the family), and we know he left behind a hoarder house situation. We saved what we could and put it into a storage unit, sold what we could, took in what we had space for. I can only imagine what they did with his house and everything he left behind.
