Unfortunately our government really don't care about poor kids, and this is the result. This album was in a class of its own. I'm nearly 50 now and have seen my country destroyed by dangerously under qualified people running government policy. Great reaction video, it's nice to see American reactions when they get a glimpse of the real Britain ✌️❤ From the uk

When I was a kid all poor kids got EMA. Schooling and healthcare is free. Its a bit harsh to say they don't care. It's society that is a problem. Poor people know that they can live poor on handouts from the governmnent. The Government has actually given people too much privilage and now British society has become lazy.

There was a massive riot in London in 2011 after the police shot dead Mark Duggan (Bandokay’s dad) shops were robbed and lit on fire. Also around this time a lot of people lost their flats in London to build the Olympic village so people were fed up with the government. This song came out around this time.

This track is a legendary protest song. It's also the namesake for his film which is definitely worth a watch.
Some of the footage in this video was taken from the London riots around that time. The guy who got egged is/was a politician. The 'hug a hoody' thing was a quote by a former prime minister who seemed to think the troubled youth just need a hug or some shit like that lol.
The music you're hearing is a hiphop and drum and bass blend. DnB has been HUGE over here for the best part of 30 years. High BPM, filthy breaks and low basslines.

    • @DaveyHotrod
      @DaveyHotrod ปีที่แล้ว +2

Love DnB! I got into it at uni - we had NY Sushi on a weekend & Tuesday Club in the week, all boss lineups - my peak was Andy C & Marcus Intalex with Skibadee on the mic on a Tuesday night. Skibadee was in full rock star mode, climbing the amp stacks, stagediving etc. Ended with the house lights up with 1000 people skanking to Body Rock.... beautiful.x

And the right wing press and the Tories were talking about "Broken Britain" when they were making massive cuts to front line services, community outreach, mental health care, hospitals, legal aid and loads of other crucial measures for supporting the most vulnerable parts of society, all whilst borrowing huge sums on our behalf from their mates at the banks to pay private companies their other mates run to replace the services with a vastly shittier yet more expensive version, if they survived at all. Like he says there's no such thing as Broken Britain, we're just bloody broke in Britain.

As someone who grew up in the worst part of my city and got a good job and move to a wealthy part of my city, I have such weird feelings listening to this again after so many years.
I have a son who will grow up in a very upper middle class life when I grew up seeing people get run down with machetes on my street frequently. A few people shot within a street or two of mine etc. In my new area they complain about the 8 year old kids 'making noise' outside. Crazy how shit changes.

The beginning part where he is playing air violin is a reference to the legend/myth of Roman emperor Nero playing the fiddle on the wall to avoid a siege, he knew he would lose so he played the fiddle as a bluff, the attacking army couldn’t believe someone would do that without being sure of winning so they left. So he is pretending to play the fiddle on top of a car park or something knowing the rich will still keep fucking over their communities but showing confidence anyway

The film Ill Manors is probably the most accurate representation of British culture and the lower class here in the cities, it captured its time perfectly and doesnt sugar coat any sort of street life it shows the nasty side of being road which back then was refferred to as being a chav (council housed and violent)

The talking about riots is referencing the riots that started in Tottenham and spread through London and then other U.K in 2011. This song is from the soundtrack of a movie with the same name which he also wrote and directed. He kinda withdrew from music, acting and directing after 2012 though to spend time with his family and deal with his own issues but his mixtapes and album from before are worth listening too

I think back in 2010, David Cameron. (Our U.K. prime minister back then) started a campaign which was all in the news papers. Which was give a hoodie a hug. Basically give a youth who looks dangerous a hug. That’s where that lyric comes from.

It is not an easy watch though, its one of those movies that will leave a bitter taste in the month but was very well done and shows a portrait of the much darker side to London that most people do not get to see or are not aware of.

I used to love this tune when it first came out. Bit more info for ya. This was from his album ill manors, which was the soundtrack to the film of the same name which was directed by Plan B. Was an alright movie, drugs, gangsters all that stuff.
Some of the footage from this video was real life from the riots in 2011. Police shot a black man in London, that kicked off riots in the deprived areas of London that went on for days. And then people in other poor areas across the country thought "yeah we're fed up with the police as well, let's riot". By a week later after the man got shot, riots were going on in city's up and down the country.

You understandably missed some of the references, like the stabs at UK politicians saying inane or dangerous, things. "Hug a hoodie was one such inane comment made by a soon to be Prime Minister, who had no intention of ever doing such a thing. More likely to kick a hoodie, then have him arrested for scuffing his shoe. He was trying, ineptly, to show that he was a 'caring conservative'. Of course, once in power he slashed public services, making a lot more 'hoodies'. No surprise as he was born into privilege and attended Eton, the most exclusive and expensive private school in the country, attended by royalty and the top aristocracy. At university he was part of an exclusive club of rich boys, where part of the initiation was having to burn a £50 note, right in the face of a homeless person...

I know I'm a year late, but I need to tell you guys that this music was originally from a german rap song called "Alle neu" ("Everything new") by Peter Fox which, even though it is in German, definitely deserves to be heard by every reactor out there. It is honestly better than this song, Peter Fox's flow is DIRTY!

The guy who got hit with an egg and smacked the guy in the mouth was Gordon brown. Ex British prime minister 😂 think he was still PM when that happened.

This has a "riot feel" because it was a response to the London riots in the summer of 2011. The lyric about theres someone in a hood give him a hug is reference to our ex pm david camerons stance on anti social behavior being solved by showing more love to the perpetrators rather than policies to address their situation, it was dubbed "hug a hoodie". The guy getting egged is politician ex bnp leader nick griffin who retaliated by punching the guy. You guys are right in what you've read in the comments there is a big class divide in the uk.

    • @andysimmons2077

To add to people saying about riots and Olympic Village he also put this sing out and another amazing one called "playing with fire" and they challenge this idea that Cameron (priminister of the time) was talking about "broken britain" he had the "give a hoodie a hug" slogan and such but it was pure hypocrisy. They were SAYING look at our poor youth and the way they're struggling and the violence but they were DOING fuck all save for adding to the poverty, overcrowding etc. Also some of the footage eg the egged politician and some riot footage and such is real footage.
