General Levy was born and raised in London , this was a big song in the UK around 1994 , theres a video on TH-cam on him doing it live on radio 25 years later with all the grime guys, skepta ,jme dizzie rascal , etc , check that out when you can . But yeah just to clarify he’s a UK based artist
th-cam.com/video/10aILuvIkPQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ddCqZA_7tpb9Aexk This and it's... wait for it... Incredible. Nah, seriously, their reaction is how just about every Brit of a certain age reacts to this song (and especially Londoners). It's impossible not to bop and join in tbh.
I can’t tell you about it dropping in Jamaica… but I can tell you about when it dropped in the West Country of England when I was about 16 .. wearing spliffy jeans and a naff naff coat… trooping on the floor in an under 18’s…. You’ll never feel as cool as I did then!.. 🔥
You have just ventured into the world of Jungle music. This sound evolved in the UK in the warehouse raves of the early 90's after taking dancehall, reggae, breakbeats, hip hop and becoming its own beast. It would spawn into the more widely known genre of Drum & Bass that still heavily thrives today both in the underground and mainstream scenes. Jungle music is still a staple today though, as you mention, the high energy and vibes it brings just make it perfect for clubs, carnivals and parties. There's a long list of DJ's, producers and artists that you can fall into the rabbit hole of but some of the old school ones to have a look for are Fabio, Grooverider, DJ Hype, Goldie, Slipmatt, EZ Rollers. If you find that you have a taste for this type of music than definitely check out some Drum & Bass after, especially when it comes to DnB MC's (Harry Shotta, Skibadee, Ragga Twins). There is a great Fire in the Booth DnB special worth a watch.

I'm hackney and my childhood was heavily influenced by the Caribbean because luckily for us most came over on the 60s xx love growing up with this culture in my life x
This was the absolute bomb growing up on the outskirts of East London as a teenager, Romford Essex representing 😂🇬🇧 I’m 45 now having a reminisce 😂 We’d have our little crew copying, making up dance moves and generally loving this vibe, then we’d go to car cruises with it booming out of our sound systems!! Uk jungle was and still is awesome!! Look up Ronnie size, the prodigy, shy fx there are tonnes of others etc. The UK vocal garage was my absolute fave!! The energy even now of those times and music influence was wonderful ❤
Probably one of the most iconic tunes from here and you never see Americans reacting to it, songs 30 years old and people still get hype as fuck when it comes on, legendary status
This dropped at the peak of 90's x use in the UK. The energy plus that was an absolute W. A little more commercial than the underground tunes but a Legend was born ; General Levi (Like the jeans)
In the 90s and 2000s this English music was big in the rave scene in the US. Warehouses and big speakers. By the end of the 2000s and into the 2010s it went away and was replaced by louder more aggressive soulless versions of this music. Another great example of this type of music from that era is Original Nuttah by UK Apache and Shy Fx
This was only supposed to be a summer tune in 1994... roll on 2024 ... that tune has been bangin for 30 years... he does the beat effects himself mid flow of his rap.. a signature sound of his and the tune itself ... the rhymes he drops are very good..
I love this song!! Awesome -You're right when you said "old school"- I remember dancing to this 💃back in the day. I love that they show a cassette player in the car!! Brings back memories too!! Good old days Thanks for playing & sharing
This was 🔥 then and still fills any dancefloor hear in the UK. There's only 1 Gen-er'al. I'll never forget the hype in the club, jungle room, this would play, dance floor full up, lighters out, your enemies didn't exist when this tune played. Never get old❤
Still a massive song in the UK. Had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years back and it went off! Fun fact: the squeak / high pitched sounds he's making himself 😁
UK music with a Jamaican flavour ,was a big hit back in the day ,still gets played , a lot of MC's all over England usually chatting over reggae songs on sound systems which date back to the early 1960's
This is a mix of reggae and jungle from uk in the 80s called junglists. Track called Incredible this mix is from bbc extra with uk rap group boy better know, lethal bizzle, paying tribute to general levy still touring in his 50s
I was just a kid when this came out, and I thought it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever heard, M-beat had some backlash from the D&B community for releasing this as they wanted to keep the music underground, but I think it would have been criminal to have just kept it there, this track was the catalyst for so many other artists to come out and put jungle/drum and bass as a certified genre of music, in my opinion M-beat was one of the best producers especially his collaboration with Jamiroquai!
LayedBak you gotta get on the "Ronald" Train ... Falling in Reverse just dropped. You better get that water 💧 my guy. 😅 Heaviest drop so far IMO 🔥 buckle up and enjoy that ride!

That ain't reggae that's JUNGLE and these are UK lads 🔥🔥
The high pitch chirps he does is vocal scratching, a lot of MC's from Drum n Bass and Happy Hardcore backgrounds in the 90's/00's did it
