This was the same officiating crew that had the Nebraska Texas A&M game where Nebraska had like 16 penalties and A&M had 2 false starts that they had to call. Worst one was when the threw a BS roughing the passer at the 50 on 3 and 11 for A&M with roughly 2 minutes to go and the game tied 6-6. Refs literally gave A&M that game.
If Rex has any neck or back injuries later in life he should file a civil suit and bankrupt that guy. There was clearly criminal intent to injure there.
Johnathan Smith Did you watch the replay? What was his intent then? It clearly was to injure him -- if a deliberate neck twist of that severity happened in a bar it would be felony assault, open and shut case.

However with the statue of limitations, after a certain amount of time charges/lawsuits can not be brought against an individual. Excluding murder. My point... Criminal intent to injure? you have no idea what you are talking about.
it seems extremely clear to me from the slow motion replay that rex burkhead... INTENTIONALLY tried to break the defender's wrist by twisting the defender's arm using Rex's face mask.....Rex Burkhead should have been tossed from the game for such a flagrant misuse of headgear.....very disturbing to see this....
Wow....what a frightening bit of footage, this shows the players mentality that they want to twist anothers players neck to nearly breaking point, he seriously needs professional help.
The fact that 48 had to be flagged at all for defending rex was bullshit. Refs were working so hard against big red in this game in general, but flagging a player for saving his teammate from a potentially career ending injury is ridiculous. Especially considering rex's success in the NFL now
osu5inarow I didn't read it that way at all - I took it as an emotional response from an obvious Husker fan. I'm a Husker fan as well and felt it was pretty sorry...mostly because it wasn't called and our guy got flagged for retaliation. I don't know how you can say that ball punching is 'the most passive' thing though...it's a pretty aggressive act. It's just as aggressive as biting, pinching, punching any other body part...it's all aggressive. And whether you've played or not (it's been 26 years since I've played) - it doesn't change the fact that it is unsportsmanlike. It happened plenty when I played and my coaches would sit your a$$ for a quarter if you were caught doing it.
@dlouhy23 The "goal line stand" ends when the ball carrier crosses the goal line, the whistle blows, the play is over, and the ball is dead. Burkhead was IN the end zone. Not letting him in the end zone was no longer an option. The play was over. The whistle had blown. Klein continued twisting on Burkhead's helmet for a good 5 to 10 seconds beyond the whistle. THAT'S MALICIOUS INTENT TO INJURE. THAT IS BLATANT GROSS MISCONDUCT.
This is so messed up. I had a lot more respect for Iowa State, beating teams like Texas as the underdog and playing well, but this kind of thing is inexcusable. Especially when we have a player suspended for special teams blocking (OSU), which may have been justified, but he wasn't trying to twist someone's neck. Your neck: the part of the body that connects the part that tells it what to do, like if it gets broken, you could be paralyzed
This player should be ashamed of himself. He made ISU look like a bunch of thugs. The thing I find funny is that Neb got a penalty for trying to protect their RB from getting his neck snapped. This just sums up how crooked the Big12 has been to Neb from the very beginning of the year. If a Neb. player engaged in this conduct he would be suspended immediately. This player was 100% aware of his conduct, not like an accidental helmet hit. This player is trash and should be kick off the team.
In 2005, Pelini was hired by Louisiana State University Tigers Head Coach Les Miles, again as defensive coordinator. His success continued, as LSU was ranked 3rd nationally in overall defense for each of his three years with the Tigers. At the conclusion of the 2007 regular season, LSU defeated Tennessee 21-14 in the 2007 SEC Championship Game and went on to win 38-24 against Ohio State, Pelini's alma mater, in the 2008 BCS National Championship Game. ...Do your research. He knows defense.

@bgwinn ill add this.. we had no quarterback for the 1st half and our 3rd string for the second half... If anything Iowa State should be embarrassed that this game was even won by Nebraska.
@Natehuki91 Did you not see the ISU player twist his head around while the play was over and Burkhead could do nothing? Meanwhile, NU gets flagged and ridiculed for trying to make plays and having their teammate's back. Ridiculous.
This officiating is par for the course when Nebraska is playing. I have watched the Huskers since I was a kid and for some reason officials across the country seem to have it out for the Huskers.
