    Good video and thanks for the resolution / bitrate recommendation at the end. 👍
    Also, the GPS mount has it's own power port... why don't you just plug into that, instead of the side of camera? (less of the wire will be visible)

      Ah you deserve a medal. I just checked and plugged it into the GPS! Makes it cleaner and I can disconnect the dash without unplugging 😂

      @@joeltnguyen No problem, I just installed my new A119 v3 today with the GPS module + CPL filter. Drove it during the day and at night, quite a good camera I must say. I went with your recommended resolution and bitrate. A 5 minute video file is almost exactly 1GB, which translates to almost 10 hours of recording on a 128GB microSD card.
      The latest firmware (v2.5,) seems to add a higher resolution of 2880 x 2160 P30, but I haven't tried it. The files at that resolution will be huge, probably (therefore less recording time). It would be fun to compare all the resolutions and file sizes of the A119. 🙂

      @@SevenSixTwo2012 I tested one my GoPro when I was riding my motorcycle! Obviously different cameras but the resolution testing is similar! 1080p wasn’t clear enough but 2.7k or 1440 was the perfect resolution for clarity and file size. 4k resolution is definitely overkill but extremely clear and most likely able to zoom in with clarity (good if you need to read a License Plate further out)
      The newer resolution looks like it will captures more horizontal view? Correct me if I’m wrong though but I’m assuming that’s the case.
      I’m curious now!

      @@joeltnguyen Yes, I also assume that the video will be wider. However, the camera itself has a 140 degree viewing angle, therefore I don't know how they can make the sensor "see more" with just a software update. It might be just one of those software upscaling things that look quite unimpressive and taxes the processor needlessly. I've only had my A119 for two days, so haven't tested it yet. Even at current resolution / bitrate it's excellent quality, so I might just keep it like that.
      Also, my night videos are nice and crisp, even with the CPL filter and HDR on. I wonder if the latest cams have upgraded hardware for night driving? In the Amazon ad, it says "2022 model" and my videos look better than some night test videos on TH-cam. Yours look pretty good too. 👍

    I personally use 2560x1080 at 30 FPS medium bitrate. There isn't too much of a difference between 30 and 60 FPS, both are technically 30 FPS, whilst '60' is just 30 FPS interpolated to 60. I also recommend turning on HDR, since it helps to add more detail in the scene. But this mostly applies to night time only.

  • @ridemfast7625
    @ridemfast7625 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why did you turn off HDR? And why only record for 3 mins, I think thats what you chose? I installed one yesterday with a 128g card and used 10 mins. This is all new to me so not sure what is best. Thanks!

    • @joeltnguyen
      @joeltnguyen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HDR can affect image quality if it is not good. I haven't tested but haven't needed to.
      Having shorter clips will help minimize each file size. Also you can prevent corruption on longer clips. Also, having shorter clips it's easier to scrub and browse clips that are saved. You can also transfer clips faster for shorter clips.

    I have hadwired installed switchable VIOFO dash cameras in my vehicle. One facing front, one facing back and one facing the driver and driver window. Why switchable? If one gets stopped by a pig they tend to ask to turn off engine and remove key. If the dash camera is connected to a source which gets power from the ignition key, then the cameras are rendered useless. My way the cameras stay on and continue recording the pig interaction. One thing to remember is to turn the cameras off. I sometime forget and find myself having to charge the vehicle battery in the morning. I don't bother with the parking feature, unless I go into a very sketchy area of town. I have had no issues with any of the VIOFO cameras.

      Yes, I got pulled over and finally realized if the car is off the camera is off. Would have been nice to have the dash cam still running without the car on but my car is old

  • @halcyonx_

    Did you update it? If so, which resolution are you using? I'm debating between the 2880x2160p 30fps or 2560x1440p 60fps.

    • @joeltnguyen
      @joeltnguyen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would go with 2560x1440 60fps, it captures more frames at a bigger resolution

    • @joeltnguyen
      @joeltnguyen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s the resolution in using rn and it’s good enough to see the plates without zoom, you can read it clearly!

    You’re a bad driver. I noticed when you change lanes you don’t signal ⬅️➡️your intentions. Why have a dash cam when you don’t drive safely?

    • @joeltnguyen

      I have a miata/convertible so the rear dash cam wouldn't work for my car. I would definitely get a rear dash cam if possible but even just a front is better than nothing

    Imagine replaying this video over 10x times to get every detail & the install perfect… only to realize you put the dash cam on the tinted window strip and camera doesn’t show much at night lol… remove & redo then you realize at night it’ll still be very hard to see thanks to 20% front window tint 🥲🤣🤣 #dummy

    • @joeltnguyen
      @joeltnguyen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha my friends run really dark tints all around. I find it so hard to see sometimes but they prefer it like that. Also, a dashcam is better than NO dashcam.
