You should continue to walk for 2 more steps then stop and thats the entire window for which you're uninterruptable. Played against an Executioner sword user a bit ago and when i got hit by ash of war i got half way into my swing animation of a straight sword before i finally got staggered lmao
This is one of those exploits which just feel so cool and balanced. You have to manipulate the circumstances to pull this off (which is *really* precise) and which allows you to basically quickstep backstab someone for the price of health instead of FP. It’s just so neat, stylish, and fun to boot.
