Scientists: A compound that's also found in dark chocolate may be associated with limited health benefits The media: CHOCOLATE MAKES YOU THIN EAT IT EVERY DAY
I legitimitly feel so sorry for scientists. Just imagine you work years on a study and some dumbass journalist completely butchers your findings and makes you seem like a total idiot. No wonder so many people don't trust the scientific community, when that's how they are represented.
Even if they're ethical enough to report on it fairly and honestly (lol, nope) they lack the competence to say anything about it beyond linking to the study so you can read it yourself (which they frequently do not do, so it's harder to determine how wrong their reporting is).
Or confounding variables are not accounted for or subject metrics properly controlled to measure specific data. Generalizations based on a statistically insignificant set results in these articles that appear outlandish
Also something important that you missed was that the high carbohydrate group not only had higher testosterone but higher Sex Hormone Binding Globulin which actually binds up the free testosterone (aka the muscle building testosterone) in your body so as a result you may have higher testosterone on a high carb diet, but overall less free usable testosterone for your muscle building needs. Now I'm just going off the graph that you should in this video and did not check the studies for myself so I might be wrong. Biology is Interesting though🤔
Maybe in some individuals living in contaminated areas with high PCB/PFOS-levels a high meat/fish consumption can lead to a high intake of these endocrine disruptors which may lead to lower testosterone levels But in reality I think this is very unlikely but everyone should do his own research regarding this topic if one's should be concerned
35% of calories from protein, 96g are 384kcal… Oh well, a full grown active man eating like 1000kcal a day having reduced testosterone.. WHO WOULD EVEN IMAGINE THAT?! WOW!
For me it's obvius that if you cut the carbs for few days you will have a depletion of energy. When your body get accostumed to low carb you will feel the boost
From what I can remember, there have been studies done (far more recent studies) that showed drops in free testosterone for low carb, and low-fat diets. Seems that going too low in either of those compromises testosterone levels, so perhaps that influenced the end results. Lots of problems with these studies regardless. Great coverage! 😎👍
Not super surprising 🤣 this side of the pond most people understand that The Sun is firmly locked in the category of "gutterpress" and take anything heard from them with a giant shovelful of salt :P
Another important thing to consider is that the article talked about very high-coresterol protein sources. Didn't even mention things like rice, peas, protein shake, kidney beans, almonds, chickpeas, ect. I can imagine eating only high-colesterol food being super unhealthy, but it has nothing to do with protein
Reminds me of the "news" that research showed warmer weather makes you brain smaller, but the paper actually found that after the ice age the brain evolved over thousands of years to be a bit smaller because the environment got so nice that a bigger brain was not needed anymore.
As someone who is actively trying to get my wife pregnant after years of us wanting a baby, this interested me.. although I knew it was going to be bullcrap. If anything me working out and getting good protein does nothing but make me even more fertile!
@@kekzealot3568 We married for love one way or the other. Main reason it hasn't worked most likely is because I had a very unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits for a few years.
Honestly, on a cut at 90kg I will need 180grams of protein. This means 720 kcalories from protein. My calorie buget on a cut is around 2000 calories. 720/2000 means 36%. 36% of my calories are coming from protein. And if I will need to dial down a bit the calories go at 1800-1900 then... I go into 40%. The interesting part is that I feel really good. I have a healthy diet, tons of salads, stopped smoking, proper sleep at 19 degrees, workout 5 times a week. Life is good
Not that I support this study or anything but there is a simple rule to nature that too much of anything is poison. Similarly exercise helps with muscle building which increases testosterone and therefore make men have a better sperm production, however too much exercise leads to an increase in cortisol which is a stress hormone and that leads to lower testosterone. Therefore, anything in excess is unhealthy however this study do be sounding kinda dumb tho
"The inclusion criteria were: intervention study, healthy adult males, and low-carbohydrate diet: ≤35% carbohydrate." Less or equal to 35% fat is also low fat right??
Are there any studies on going to the saunas impact on training? The idea would be going to the sauna after a training would improve recovery and maybe decrease the risk of injury
I'm so mad at those "journalists" who are stupid af and misunderstand or misinterpret everything giving us no information in the end worthwhile reading.
I find it funny that some draw conclusions from a really small study that DRASTICALLY changed a couple of peoples diets… I mean protein and fat is harder for the body to draw energy from and it takes some time for the body to get used to. And of course when your body doesn’t work normally anymore (since you’ve cut your main source of energy macronutrient) you probably will get lower T levels because of the shock…
When you get above 40% of total energy intake the differential effects of TEF actually matters and there is most likely a significant energy difference in play as well
I don't think it's always relevant to talk aboit macros with % of total caloric intake. For example, I can sometimes eat up to 35% protein because my calories are low.
Remember that people who write most of these articles have no knowledge nor experience of the subject they are writing about, all they know is how to present information but really have no idea what they are presenting, also doing it mostly for the money which makes the articles that much more dishonest. I wish we didnt live in a world where saying things just for the sake of it was acceptable.
Can i ask why a 200lbs guy SHOULDNT eat more than 220g of protein? The 2 reasons why I do it is because; Ive heard the body has a harder time storing protein as fat, and I dont feel as bloated/sluggish
Just want to point out that a recommendation of 1.6-2.3g/kg body weight is 26.1-35.7% calories consumed for a 180lb person taking in 2000 calories daily. 180lb = 81.6 kg 81.6kg(1.6g/kg) = 130.5g protein 130.5g(4 calories/g) = 522.24 calories 522.24/2000 = 26.1% The recommendation is 1.2g-2g/kg, which would be 19.5-32.6% of a 2000 calorie diet, which would avoid hitting that 35% altogether.
This study forgets to account for calories too. Dropping calories alot reduces hormones levels if it goes below maintenance which could be why high protien (typically low calorie foods) diets would result in hormones dropping
hey man im at a steady protein intake of 100g per day, im trying to lose body fat and gain some muscle and ive been at it for a bit now, its seems to respond well. how important is it to hit my recommended intake? (130g)
If you are a beginner and you want to build more muscle you should probably put in 2 grams of protein per kg of bodyweight for the first couple of months. And then go down to the recommended amount of 1,6g.
I mean you kinda need to understand what's the protein for. If you do resistance training, you tear your muscle fibres. This results in small cuts in your muscle and protein fills these small cuts. Your body does what it always tries to do and that is to repair the damage. If you don't eat enough protein, maybe not all cuts get filled with protein or not with enough to make it grow. Your body will still repair the cuts but you lose the opportunity to fill them out and make them grow. That's basic idea in an oversimplified explaination. Since you are new to lifting, you tear your muscle with nearly every activity therefore you should aim for a higher intake. 1g of every cm of your height is a good general rule.
I love thoughts on the studies posted, I wanted to know your thoughts on documentary "The Game changers" featuring various health experts and athletes including Arnold Schwarzenegger.... ❤️
Around 35% kcal of protein isn’t too far off for a strict weight loss diet, considering you eat around 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight and just drop your carbs and fat… so is this bad now?
Just a point on the 250g of mince. It is likely that the mince used in the study did not have 30g of fat per 100g. If the study was done in England and they used mince from the supermarket, the highest fat content I ever see is only 20g fat per 100g, and even then the most popular option of the 5g fat. Won’t be much difference to the overall video but that 30g fat seems too high (for me personally anyways).
Great video, it really opens your eyes to what exactly goes on in the studies and makes people seem like they’re fishing for studies that push their agenda and own beliefs. I would love more of these vids!!
Upon review, it wasn't the study that was the real problem, even though the limited sample size of subjects and short duration of experiment made the data of lesser value. In the end, it was the article written about the study that was terrible and misleading. Better takeaway: don't cut your carbs too low if you don't want to potentially impact your test levels detrimentally, and on a more basic common sense level, don't increase your protein intake by multiple times more than your existing intake overnight.
Yeah being from the UK and therefore more familiar with them I assume every nutrition based article from the Sun newspaper/website is going to be one of these stupid "This causes this" and pure extrapolative nonsense.
would you elaborate on why you think greater than 35% caloric intake from protein is harmful? say a 5'10", 200 lb male with 30% body fat 2.3 g per kg for lean body mass is about 150 g protein each day say the person is cutting, to maintain muscle mass, 150g protein is about 600 calories calculations by online calculator, TDEE for this body profile is around 2600 kcal per day if the person is cutting at 1k caloric deficit each day, daily caloric intake is about 1600 kcal out of that 1600 kcal 600 would be from protein, and by my calculations that's 37.5% protein in total caloric intake Are you suggesting eating at muscle maintenance protein intake while being at caloric deficit is harmful?
So, before watching the video, just going off the title: I wonder how we came this far as a species, given that our protein intake today pales in comparison to ancient times where they ate animals head to toe? I smell bs. If anything would make men/woman infertile then maybe the 1000 ingredients in food that should just have max maybe 5? Or maybe highly processed food? Or maybe we play too much with food genetics? Maybe the overconsumption of sugar in modern diets from as early as in mother's womb? Maybe a combination of all of it? No of course not, gotta follow the gaslighting gospel of "meat bad".
Actually, for 90% of our evolution we only/mainly consumed plants. There's many parts of our biology that suggest that our bodies are adapted to consuming plants rather than meat (eg: teeth, digestive system etc). Furthermore, they didn't have farms where they could readily kill animals so acquiring meat was a lot harder than it is today. Not to mention how quickly meat goes off, so meat would've been a very ineffective food source. And even if they ate the entire animal, it was very likely that the meal was shared between multiple people, so barely anyone could've eaten as much meat as you're suggesting they did.

say a 5'10", 200 lb male with 30% body fat
2.3 g per kg for lean body mass is about 150 g protein each day
say the person is cutting, to maintain muscle mass, 150g protein is about 600 calories
calculations by online calculator, TDEE for this body profile is around 2600 kcal per day
if the person is cutting at 1k caloric deficit each day, daily caloric intake is about 1600 kcal
out of that 1600 kcal 600 would be from protein, and by my calculations that's 37.5% protein in total caloric intake
Are you suggesting eating at muscle maintenance protein intake while being at caloric deficit is harmful?
