That is going to be a really nice beltsander. As the saying goes from the mid-70s, you can rebuild it. You have technology. Also, that new vice of yours was looking good. Be blessed. My friend.

*_I like the direction you're going with it. I'm guessing they went with that motor because of variable speeds. I know very little about those motors. I had a pile of them in my old shop back in L.A. and I ended up never using them for anything. Hopefully its strong enough for the job._*

I really like messing with DC motors and other components. I found out this motor is used in small go karts and electric bikes. I believe it’s up for the task👍🏻

@@IndianaDoug Yep. I pulled the motors I had from the early electric bikes back in the early 2000s and I got rid of them all when I moved to Washington.

While I do appreciate reusing things, It seems like welding the steel to get a piece of square stock wasn't the best idea because now you have an irregular shape inside and cannot nest other tooling inside easily (ie. a back platen for your double wheel ended Y shaped attachment and/or an angle guide rest for jigs and such). Other thoughts: Might want to connect the square tubings together with a large cotter pin or two to help isolate any wiggle between them. Also, missing is a tracking mechanism to keep the belt from working its way off...but that's probably coming in part 2.

I appreciate the input👍🏻 I have a plan for the “tube in a tube” method. If it doesn’t work I’ll go a different direction. I’m trying to keep this very low budget.
