I remember these. I had a blue MK II in Oxfordshire circa 1988/89 and then a MKII GTI which was, I best recall, was the self same colour as yours or else very similar? In my opinion these were better made than the Peugeot 205 Gtis they were up against and they were quicker and safer too. I drove the Gti across the Somme where the thing pulled 200km/h on the empty, open straights and then on down into Dijon and then further on down into the Cote d'Azur and back. These days, an eco boost Ford or such similar is about the right compromise - more particularly given our UK road conditions but also, and increasingly, in France too. Happy memories - a la researche du temps perdu :)
I’m surprised that you didn’t dice and slice the dash and convert it to right hand drive. Other than that it’s a fine example of your well loved Golf GTI. Fun project 👍
The drinking will happen, it just hadn't at the point this video was recorded (or the forthcoming viper one although the two swims in the iso bath for that one weren't anything to do with the tape)😁
