I came across your channel when looking for wood lathe instructional videos. So far, I like yours the best. Please keep up the great videos and information!
You've found one of the best. Between this channel and his (everybody's) mentor, Richard Raffan, you couldn't ask for more. Wonderful and thorough demonstration. I've used some of the those atypical techniques, usually because the tool is in my hand and it happens to be cutting well. Reminds me of a small bedan sometimes. Excellent instructions, yet again
As usual Tomislav a great demonstration. I recommended your channel to my friend turners who never had the chance, like me, to learn initially through courses or apprenticeship
@Tomislav could be handed a nail punch, and he'd be able to use it to turn something with intricate detail. Doesn't really matter what tool this woodturner craftsman is given, he'll illustrate it's versatility to make it work. He's one of the world's most underestimated Master Craftsmen Woodturners. Bet you've made Richard Raffan real proud Tom !!
Great demonstration. I've never seen someone turn a knob with a parting tool! Nicely done Tomislav! I always enjoy and learn from your videos. Thank you!
Thanks for another great video. Nice to know that you can do some limited moves with a parting tool than just parting. Glad you touched on the center height for this tool. Tool center height gives me trouble. Looking forward to your next videos to learn more on how to use these tools. Thank you.
Another great demonstration of basic tool use and potential for even greater uses of even simple tools. So informative for newer turners like myself. Looking forward to your future videos for other tool types. Between you and Richard Raffen I have learnt so much as a recent convert to wood turning. Keep up the good work.
Hello Tomislav, and I've learnt something again. I have always used the parting tool incorrectly. I'll try out your method tomorrow. Thanks as always for your very informative videos. Greetings Andreas
Great video. I had no idea that a parting tool was this versatile. May I ask why you rub the pice with shavings? I have seen it many times but have never asked why? Thank you for the video. You explain and show better than most. Bill 🇨🇦
I have not commented before, so let me repeat what we all know; these are excellent videos. Two questions. First you square off the cutting edge; is this important? I have angled mine a bit and I don't have a good reason. And why a flat parting tool and not one that has the sides angled away from the midline?
Thank You for watching and comment 😀 I just prefer square cutting edge, if its angled then it can be more difficult to control but that being said it will produce cleaner cut. As for body, I don't have Diamond parting tool, but that is beacuse I got this one from Crown 😀. Both types will do the job great.
I see a lot of bench grinders with CBN wheels with the guard removed. Is there any pros/cons to doing this? Or is it just because the wheel is too wide for the guard to fit?
I still do not trust going in with a parting tool just using its width. Even if it is nice and sharp I have had it catch or a bind that way. Just twisting the handle or using the edge again to make it a bit wider cut may lose you a touch more of wood but the tool will not bind in the cut. Especially if I am using a very thin parting tool.

Hmmm never thought about that 😀

Hello Bill
Rubbing shavings is an old trick to remove as much sanding marks but also to bring the shine up a fraction
Thank you

Hello Tomislav, I noticed your RSBG8 grinder has a CBN wheel in this video. Why did you change the wheel.
Hi Harvey, hopefully I help out over on Instagram ☺️
I see a lot of bench grinders with CBN wheels with the guard removed. Is there any pros/cons to doing this? Or is it just because the wheel is too wide for the guard to fit?
I think that most won't fit with guard in place, but there are not nearly as much debris coming from cbn in contrast to old white or grey wheels
