3 Leopards In One Place On The S39 - Timbavati Picnic Spot In The Kruger National Park
Wow... That is the main word I describe this with. We were lucky enough, and in the right place and at the right time to witness 3 Leopards together. Although this is not that unusual, this was a first for us, and I am sure a first for many who witnessed this amazing sighting of the 3 Southern African Leopards (Panthera pardus pardus).
We had a beautiful morning driving from Orpen Rest Camp towards Timbavati Picnic Spot, and when we arrived, we had no idea what to expect. We were there for a toilet break and a quick film work of any birds or animals in the area, we did not expect to see what we did.
What did we see? So we arrived and the caretaker of Timbavati Picnic Spot called us over and said bring some binoculars. That we did. He said "Look there are 2 Leopards that have just crossed the riverbed". We were stunned, and amazed, and so excited. We scanned the surrounding riverine vegetation and finally saw the 2 Leopards, which were actually a mating pair of Leopards, which we saw mate twice. Then out of nowhere a smaller Leopard came to the party. He or she just lay down close to the mating pair, and we were beyond excited. You will see the video footage is very shaky... I was pumping with adrenaline and was actually shaking. 3 Leopards in one spot, at the same time (Yes one was most likely the older cub of the female, but still)! It was an incredible sighting, and one I will never forget.
The African leopard is elusive to spot, and very secretive, and to see 3, at the same spot, at the same time, was just incredible. Words cannot describe this experience, and it is one that will be in the memory bank forever!
In the background you can hear the call of the Arrow-marked Babbler. I added this call because there was a flock of 6 or 7 while we were watching the Leopards.
We hope you enjoy the video! Please like and subscribe for more Wildlife and Kruger National Park videos and content!
