I went to see them in Wolverhampton UK the other night. Holy shit, they blew me away. I had no idea Living Colour was opening and I was so happy to be able to see such an iconic band. They killed it and did a 50 years of hip-hop medley (Apache, The Message etc.) And Corey climbed up on to the cabinets during Cult then to the above balcony and sang amongst them. Extreme were just phenomenal too. Nuno just is just the best. And Gary was nailing it on vocals.
saw Living Colour in 2014 in Austin. I loved their energy. They each had their own solo spots. It was awesome. I'm glad to hear they're still killing it.
I think, Nuno's playing is somehow insane. Vernon is an all-time fav of mine, his guitar-skills are just unreal. Corey managed to keep his voice for decades now. What a rock-voice he has.
@astroandyborgloh YEAH! Hey have you heard the new "Sonic Universe" album, Corey's other band? It is seriously nuts. I thought NUNO was so cool live last year.. Before playing "Flight Of The Bumblebee" he so humbly stated "OK I'm going to try and play this.. Wish me luck, because I am NO VERNON REID"... Thought that was just really nice and respectful thing to say.
Same thing happened at the Seattle show (With Corey coming down amongst the Audience for Should I say or Should I go). And Nuno asked the same qn : How many of you were fans back in the day followed by him pointing and going "Bullshit, Bullshit..." Was a phenomenal concert though...
Numero Nuno! Was at the Reno show last night and it was fantastic! 10/10 and the best part was going to an early soundcheck only about 40 of us up front and they warmed up with Warheads and brought up a 12 year old kid who played Cupid's Dead on Drums impeccably! I went in blind with no setlist info and was pleasantly surprised with the mix, and the crowd stayed on their feet the whole time which is always a HUGE bonus when the crowd is into it! Like you Play with Me in 1989 got me into guitar and Nuno became my greatest guitar hero and inspiration followed closely by Vai in 1990 when Passion and Warfare came out. I traveled hours to see Extreme Open for ZZ TOP in August 1991 and then saw my favorite concert ever Extreme/Saigon Kick in 1993 and then again in August 2008 Extreme in San Francisco. THey are playing in SF tonight actualy and I might just have to drive over there right now! Great review!
@michaelespinosa9168 interesting side note. The song The Audience Is Listening is played by a 12 or 13 year old McRocklin using Vais #1 prototype signature. He later gifted that very guitar to the kid. It's a really cool story.
TBH, you absolutely *can* end with a cover without feeling out of place...if you made the cover your own to the point where the fans know and love it. I seem to remember a bit during the encore in one of Metallica's old VHS releases where they were like, "What do you wanna play?" "I dunno, we don't have any more good songs." "Let's steal someone else's!" Then they busted out their cover of Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy" and it was absolutely awesome.
I saw Living Colour in the 80s, 90s, they've been playing covers to end the show traditionally. I've seen them play Should I Stay a few times, Fast Car, Nothing Compares 2U, Atomic Dog, stuff like that
Sunshine Of Your Love(Cream, Eric Clapton), also a few different BAD BRAINS covers, "a**hole", "Little Annie's Prayer" (yes, it's a cover, just very very reworked), "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp" (Hendrix), and not many people know this, but "MEMORIES CAN'T WAIT" is actually a TALKING HEADS cover.
Nuno is from the island of Terceira, in the Azores, and while visiting family in 2005 i caught Extreme's reunion show at free outdoor show. It was such an unexpected thing to see and they totally killed it. Nuno actually opened the show with his Citizen project as well, hes a machine!
Saw the show in Anaheim. As much as I'm an Extreme fan, Living Colour stole the night. They started off with Rock n Roll instead, just killed it. Corey is a beast of a vocalist, very powerful.
I saw Living Colour the first time when they opened for the Stones at the LA Colosseum in 1989. I've lost track of how many times since. Amazing bend and a great group of guys if you get to meet them. I went to an Extreme show once. If I recall my friend's band is for them. What I do remember clearly though is my gf decided to start a fight with me and we left before Extreme went on. I was able to listen to a radio simulcast.
I was lucky enough to get to see Extreme in 1992, they were touring the UK arenas in support of their 3rd album but they had booked a small show after the last show of the tour, at a venue voted the best music venue in the UK at the time, it was Rock City in Nottingham, with a 2000 capacity. It was incredible.
Just ran into this video, was at that show had to laugh when you shared the pic of Corey singing and walking through the crowd my 2 buddies and I are in your pic. It was crazy, he was right there pretty fun! I never managed to see either of them back in the day.
Did the VIP in Philly. Never done it. Worth it. My favorite guitar player and I got to meet him and briefly discuss Queen with Nuno and Gary. 3rd row seats and amazing. Bucket list for this old man. And I did actually touch Cory. Flex 😎😜🎸
I saw Metallica last weekend in Arlington TX! Great Concert. 🤘. (2 day ticket) On Friday August 18 - Mammoth & Pantera opened for Metallica & On August 20 Ice Nine Kills & Five Finger Death Punch Opened for metallica.
I literally would’ve hit no tip on the screen and told the t-shirt seller to go eff himself..I’m not tipping anyone for doing what they’re paid to do which was reaching into a box and handing me a shirt..
Exactly! This is a new trend.. Retail should not be requiring a mandatory tip. If it's optional, that's one thing, but forcing me to, i refuse. This isn't food service. 👎
Saw Extreme live in Syracuse in 1990 and LC in Rochester, 1989 (before they toured with Rolling Stones). Both bands were phenomenal live and all the hype was true.
HAHA! As a band guy myself (and I was with my old bass player who now lives in Minneapolis) we joked about the Extreme background/trussing being crooked and I could not NOT see it for the rest of the night. lmao. Glad somebody else's OCD was in overdrive over that. Had no idea you lived in the Minneapolis area. I live in Bismarck, ND. So we travel for a ton of club shows in the cities. Were there in March for The Winery Dogs and will be coming back down in February for the Mr. Big show. I would have loved to say hi. Love your channel. And yeah... I was in line for almost 40 minutes for a t-shirt (I bought the Extreme gorilla one). And the guy was NOT very friendly. But I tipped him anyhow. Paid cash. And I drank 2 bottled waters. Which I think were $5.00 each. Oh well. Both bands were great. Nuno is insane. What a GREAT theater to see a concert. My only bitch is we were about 20 feet in from the other doorway (on Nuno's side) and 3 hours of standing on the slant of the floor pretty much killed my shins. It was a weird balancing act to stand up straight. But as a shorter guy, I appreciated being up a little higher than the people in front of me. Great review. Great channel. Keep up the good work!
I had the privilege of seeing Living Colour shortly after they reformed and they were absolutely incredible. Their energy and talent was top notch. Glad you enjoyed the show, seems like they are still on top of their game.
Just saw Metallica, 55DP, and Ice Nine Kills in Arlington Texas and it was an amazing show! I went the 2nd night and Metallica opened with Whiplash, definitely a show worth seeing.
i saw Extreme and Winger with opening act Tangier i believe was the name in Knoxviille TN. guessing in the late 80s or early 90s and as a guitar player i couldn't believe how great Nuno and Reb were and was so jealous because i didn't hear any bad mistake notes etc. Guys like that are on a different level and now at 59 i miss those good ole days.
@@TheArtofGuitar Awesome! My first ever collab! If anyone is interested I have the full Boston and Hartford shows on my channel, with a couple of Living Colour songs too, as well as some ultra nerdy tube amp tech videos. Thanks Mike, love your videos!
The 1st time I saw Living Color was in DT Athens Ga we were walking down the sidewalk & this band was ROCKING so I looked in the small club doors were open & I'm like they are all black chk these cats out.... a few weeks later I saw them on MTV the next year I saw em again opening for The Stones at Death Valley Stadium a BIG venue change by that time I knew the whole album by heart I was singing w/every song I'll never forget that they Blew the Stones AWAY !!!
I saw the show in Boston...got the VIP package...was pretty cool. Got in for "sound check" (they sound checked before letting us in and then let us in.) They were still working out a couple issues (mainly Gary's in ears.) They seemed apologetic...Gary was like, "Sorry folks, we're trying to get our stuff together." I replied, "That's what we paid to see!" and Gary kinda shrugged like, "Yeah, I guess you did." So it was cool, I got to chat a lil bit with the band from the floor. So they play the medley of songs from the first record and I told Nuno he forgot 'Watching Waiting,' and he says, "No." Then he started playing the intro! It was pretty cool. For the actual show, I was one of those guys clinging to the barrier, right in front of Nuno. I thought Corey Glover sounded great...he sang like it was 1990. I didn't notice any issues on 'Rock-n-Roll.' Vernon was Vernon and the bass player was astounding. Anyway...Extreme was amazing...loved every minute of it...and I stayed til the end! 🙂
I was working two jobs back around 2014. I was working at PRS Guitars when Vernon started playing their guitars(and they played the PRS Experience) and was working at the 9:30 Club in DC when they played. Def got my LC fix. 😊
I saw this show in Gary, Indiana, not long before this. Living Colour opened with Rock n Roll. Corey Glover sounded great on everything. His voice is holding up very well. Extreme was awesome, and Nuno was on point. Got there late, and left early? Not sure about that logic. Other stuff can wait when Nuno is in town for the first time in years. Seems like an odd choice for a guitar player.
Seen extreme back when they were popular back In the day. It was one of the best shows I ever seen. I saw the first album tour and there was only 50 people. The second album the place was sold out. Nuno is one of the nicest people. He is great to his fans.
Dude, live a little. First you almost forgot the date of this awesome billing. Come on. Second: You are late for Living Colour. Third: You don´t stay till the end of the show. To edit a video. Again. Live a little. Thx for the awesome review and still being a fanboy. Extreme and Living Colour are in Germany at the end of the year. Separatly. Only together on the UK Tour.
I know, trust me. But if I’m in the middle of a video, it’s all I can think about. It’s my OCD or something. Can’t help getting obsessed with whatever project I’m excited about.
Hey my friend, just wanted you to know you have a great channel! I subscribed & have been looking at your lessons, I'm an old man who has never played guitar or any musical instrument before! I just could not comprehend the methods or anything about it. But after watching your vids for a very short time, about 2 weeks, I'm truly starting to understand some things! I asked & my wife & she got me an electric guitar for my 62nd birthday, about 2 weeks ago, & on Sept.1st I am definitely signing up for your lessons! You have a way of explaining things that make sense to even a complete noob like myself! lol Keep on keeping on brother!
Just saw same show (Living Colour/Extreme) in Milwaukee on the 15th. LC did the Zepplin cover during this set, but it was one of the first songs. They didn't do the Clash, though--would have liked to see that. They only did a short version of Nothing Compares 2 U. Corey came through our audience, too, but far more impressively--all the way up to the mezzanine, where we were! Loved that. And LOL about the men's room line, was same at this show. For Extreme, we were lucky because Nuno said that he had to go for an emergency visit to an ENT doctor, as he'd woken that morning with NO VOICE. Doc got him fixed up, he spunded great. Both groups rocked hard, super impressed and glad to have seen both. You shouldn't have left early!!!
I had a nuno washburn body and neck model it was burned in a fire or something I bought it off ebay years ago in the early 00s when I was 20 or 21 I used it to mod I filled the neck pickup route in and put a emg 81 in grover tuners a gotoh version floyd in it painted the body slime green left the neck as it was I give it to my son to start playing when he was 10
I had no idea you were from the cities! One of my old bands used to play a bunch of clubs up there back in the mid 2000's. At the time, we were friends with a bunch of local metal bands from around the area. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
I had their first album when they first came on the scene. Yes Nuno is hella hot and cool but it’s the music that really got me, the ensemble. I spent the gig staring at his hands not just his face 😂
Curious to know if Nuno mentioned anything about his right knee. Noticed he's wearing a leg brace. I had to wear one after surgery for a little while after destroying my ACL and Meniscus. Still have to wear one if I have to play sports.
It's a scourge with these small business e-pay terminals. I always don't tip those. I also don't do the donation to charity ones. I am not going to be guilt tripped at the grocery. It's just more ways to grub money out of people these days.
I was in the front row stage left at their show at Hampton, New Hampshire. I did get as close as possible to Nuno and I got high fives from Corey Glover and Gary Cherone.
I saw Extreme in 1992. Thought I was Hella cool. They were opening for Bon Jovi. Went and saw extreme, I was about 20 feet in front of Nuno. They blew the roof off the place and we split before BonJovi came on. Haha. It was a summer stage at a Naval Base in Groton, CT Summer between 7th and 8th grade, the year I got my first guitar.
I really wanted to see this show in Portland, but I waited too long to buy tickets and ended up missing it. It would have been my 4th time seeing Living Colour.
Diggin these vids, they're so rad! You got so close to Mr. Glover, wow 😮 I hope you get to see 311, that would be so sick! P-Nut is such a bitchin bassist!
I was at the Reno show on Aug 25th. Your review is the same as what I thought! Nuno was awesome and his between song banter was exactly the same. Did he say that Minneapolis was the best crowd on the tour so far? I think he says that everywhere. I was surprised that he did most of the talking to the crowd as well. The acoustic segment was awesome! Nuno plays and sings so well and he and Gary harmonized perfectly! I wanted them to play He-Man but they didn't. All the material from the new album sounded great. Overall, I'd give them an 8.5 as well because Gary struggled a few times and the front of house mix could have been a bit better. It was mid rangy and harsh to start then they finally got it dialed in. I only saw half of Living Colour as well and I completely agree with your assessment. The only difference is that I think Vernon Reid is overrated. He tries to play too fast and it ends up being sloppy. I'd definitely go see Extreme again!
Yeah, really... If this is the type of nonsense I gotta deal with at concerts from here on out, forget it. I'll get my merch elsewhere, either online or not at all.
lock downs changed the entire "tip" vibe for the worse. I'm not tipping someone for reaching into a box or pouring a cup of coffee. I tip well to servers or anyone that provides a service that takes effort. Grabbing a shirt does not require anything that deserves 4 bucks. never going to happen.
It really sucks for people who actually rely on tips for their income. Now everyone wants tips even if they’re already getting paid and I fear that will cause people to not take it seriously. In my job as a gig working food delivery driver the apps barely pay enough to cover gas for the job ($2 per delivery) so tips are literally 70% of my income so I’m a little annoyed by people asking for tips who are already getting paid 15+/hr. Give tips to people who need it
I found your comment on the metallica stage fails videos 😂 I saw metallica play the us bank stadium in 2016. It was perfect except James missed a singing part in lepper messiah and realized it later in the set list and they replayed that missing part. Other than that it was perfect.
Tank The Tech has some good videos about band merch fees and etc. Also a good video about what it cost a band to play (their income sheet). Surprised how little the band makes!!
2 days ago I spent 77 dollars on 1 shirt and 1 bandana in LA for Metallica and Pantera…I couldn’t believe a shirt and bandana wall hanger was 77 bucks. Shocked
Good stuff as always 🤘and for the shirt prices… ouch. I did see Def Leppard and Motley Crue recently and a single shirt was $50 plus tax AND tip! I know they gotta make money from merch but wow… still a great show minus the crue’s vocals…
It’s very cool that with the new success Extreme is having they reached back and called Living Colour.
Random trivia... Corey Glover was in the movie "Platoon".
Time's Up is a FANTASTIC album that doesn't get enough recognition IMO
Agreed!!!!
@richrivers1232 Time's Up is so diverse. It has EVERYTHING. "This is The Life" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Extreme was my first concert. It was at The Ritz in Roseville, MI in 1990. Danger Danger opened up for them. It was an all ages show. I was 15.
Mine was the Ritz in Roseville also. 95 No Encore Tour
I went to see them in Wolverhampton UK the other night. Holy shit, they blew me away. I had no idea Living Colour was opening and I was so happy to be able to see such an iconic band. Nuno is a monster player. I honestly have an easier time learning Van Halen stuff.
I saw LC in '89 with the Rolling Stones on the Steel Wheels tour.

Saw this tour in Las Vegas in Feb 2024, and Nuno blew me away, and Vernon rips for life 🙏🤘
I never do the tip thing. Screw that noise.
Living Colour is fan-freaking-tastic. I’ve seen them a bunch of times but was out of town for the Minneapolis show …. Glad you go to go!
2 of my fav bands from the early 90's. Got to see Living Colour twice (1990/1992) but never got to see Extreme. Very jealous!

Will's yellow kit is an homage to Tony Williams iconic Gretsch yellow kit. Stryper!!! dude...
This is so cool! Glad it was a great show 🤘🏻🔥 Wish I could go see Extreme over here in a couple months but it's sold out, perhaps next time.

Nice vintage Carvin V220 with amd original khaler trem!
I'd Love to see Living Colour!!!I'm pretty sure they're coming to Denver
I had a nuno washburn body and neck model it was burned in a fire or something I bought it off ebay years ago in the early 00s when I was 20 or 21 I used it to mod I filled the neck pickup route in and put a emg 81 in grover tuners a gotoh version floyd in it painted the body slime green left the neck as it was I give it to my son to start playing when he was 10
I would NEVER tip for a tee shirt at a concert. Dude was out of his mind
I had no idea you were from the cities! One of my old bands used to play a bunch of clubs up there back in the mid 2000's. At the time, we were friends with a bunch of local metal bands from around the area. 🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
Nice, which bands?
I know what you mean about the prices in a gig. At Maiden's first British show this year I nearly fell over at the price of a beer.
Seen this show. Both bands were Fantastic.
awesome! gonna see ace frehley tonight. Lot of good theater shows now.
@mike please do more brutally honest concert reviews!!!
He injured it on the Monsters of Rock Cruise back in March playing basketball. He's had the brace on ever since.
I'm from MA and went to college in RI. I saw them about six teams in the mid-late eighties. Amazing.
You have to tip when buying a $40 t-shirt? You guys (Americans) are out of your friggin' minds.
Of course we are! ;)
It's a scourge with these small business e-pay terminals.
I always don't tip those. I also don't do the donation to charity ones. I am not going to be guilt tripped at the grocery.
It's just more ways to grub money out of people these days.
First song that got me into Extreme was Mutha, would have loved if they played that one live!
Wait a minute, you saw Taylor Swift?
Heck yes! ;)
Living Colour covered 'should I stay or should I go' on the Type B-Side
I was in the front row stage left at their show at Hampton, New Hampshire. I did get as close as possible to Nuno and I got high fives from Corey Glover and Gary Cherone.
I was there too. Great show from top to bottom!
what 311 date are you hitting?
My fav quote from the show was Living Colour saying they are the white Extreme and Extreme is the black Living Colour. I loved both bands.
Saw this show in London in December. Great show altho I had COVID 😢
They are doing 2 nights in London in December, going to both yay lol
LC has been doing Should I Stay for years.
Let's hear it for the East Coast 80s/90s hair bands!
Call me old fashioned but if im not playing with at least a 2x12, it’s not right.
You tipped for a t-shirt? 😂 😮 Tell the guy "yeah i forgot its $20 with free shipping online"
Yeah, really... If this is the type of nonsense I gotta deal with at concerts from here on out, forget it. I'll get my merch elsewhere, either online or not at all.
I did that my first show (Darkest Hour, Exodus, Fit for an Autopsy)😂 unless it's a special tour shirt, I'm buying it online.
lock downs changed the entire "tip" vibe for the worse. I'm not tipping someone for reaching into a box or pouring a cup of coffee. I tip well to servers or anyone that provides a service that takes effort. Grabbing a shirt does not require anything that deserves 4 bucks. never going to happen.
Amen to that. It's a disturbing new trend that's complete bullshit.
Employers are just using it as a buzz word for job offerings to seem like you get more money
Give tips to people who need it
Who else would leave and miss Rise to come home and edit a video? That is so wow
I love this channel;
Never leave early and u missed a HELL of a Living Colour show.
Had to be a fantastic experience. Video on the eagles?😆😂🤣 I truly hope it goes well.
I found your comment on the metallica stage fails videos 😂 I saw metallica play the us bank stadium in 2016. It was perfect except James missed a singing part in lepper messiah and realized it later in the set list and they replayed that missing part. Other than that it was perfect.
Is everybody Led Zep covers? Ann Wilson did one in your last concert review also. Huh.
Shocked
what guitar are you holding in the video?
That looks like the Carvin V220 that Craig Chaquico played back in the 80's
I saw them twice on the Pornograffitti tour and once on the Three Sides tour. I would ove to see them again.
Very cool. I saw the Pornograffitti tour, SO GOOD!
I would enjoy if you gave love to Rocky Goerge formerly of Suicidal Tendencies.
Unsung Guitar God he is.
Brother/Sister jam session stream when?
beautifull 💐
The price of concert t-shirts is appalling. I was at Guns N' Roses a few weeks ago and a t-shirt was 50 bucks.
Good stuff as always 🤘and for the shirt prices… ouch. I did see Def Leppard and Motley Crue recently and a single shirt was $50 plus tax AND tip! I know they gotta make money from merch but wow… still a great show minus the crue’s vocals…
Why would you not wait until the next day to finish your Marty Friedman video, instead of getting to the concert late?
Just wondering if you caught Mary Friedman with Queensryche ?
