100kg thrust Electric paramotor micro battery range test with a new lightweight 24s semi-solid pack

  • Drove another 5 hours to my favourite flying spot to test the new battery i made.
    Wind was on the stronger side and the limit i am able to fly - very smooth but i couldnt get the wing down at the end. Got some nasty cuts from lines. Any advice?
    Had one of my best flights ever. Perfect view, nice water and the warm fuzzy feeling that i can use this tiny lightweight pack to fly for at least 25min which is my sweetspot before i wanna land and have a rest. I know most of you pro pilots love to fly hours at a time but for me half hour is plenty since i dont do cross country flying anyway here due to limited space with no landing areas in case of a motor out.

    Congratulations on your latest paramotor video, Panda! Flying for 25 minutes with a 24S 30Ah battery is an impressive feat. Your skills and determination shine through in every flight.
    In our area, where mountains and thermals can work in our favor, I believe you have the potential to achieve even longer flight times with that battery setup. The possibilities are exciting.
    Additionally, for safety and peace of mind, I'd suggest considering a larger battery for future flights. Having a few extra minutes as a reserve can be invaluable. You never know what situations might arise, and that extra time can make all the difference. Keep up the fantastic work and happy flying!

    • @cloudpandarism2627
      @cloudpandarism2627  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      thanks for your kind words good sir!
      oh yes eaaaasy you can fly much longer if you use the motor only to get into thermals and shut it off. i saw others use a small battery to get to cloudbase and then stay up an hour, coming back with 40% left capacity. not sure its true but thats what he said. as i mentioned in description everything around the 30 min mark hits my sweetspot for how long i wanna fly. i am also sure any "normal" non fatty pilot can fly this battery longer. because my takeoff weight is over 170kg, battery drains faster for sure. i hear from a friendthat he can fly longer with same capacity used by just being slim. and you can further increase that by using a high efficiency EN-C wing. it all depends. i am happy the double flotation devices are installed now because i only fly at the ocean so far.
      next bigger battery i make will be overkill. i try go near double the weight of the current pack because i can easy lift and fly this unit now. weight is far below my gasoline paramotor before.
      what wing are you flying buddy?

    • @mountainblack
      @mountainblack 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for sharing, Panda! It's fascinating to hear about using the motor just to get into thermals and then soaring up high - that's a clever approach to extending your flight time.
      You're absolutely right that weight plays a significant role in battery consumption, and it's impressive that you're achieving the flight times you are with a takeoff weight of over 170kg. It's true that lighter pilots may be able to stretch the battery's capacity even further.
      Regarding my wing, I'm currently flying a PowerPlay Sting 140, which is certified for both PG and PPG. I also have a Jazz PG wing, second hand but checked every year. They may be old, but I ensure they are maintained in top condition.
      By the way, you can see both of my wings in action on my TH-cam channel.

    • @mountainblack
      @mountainblack 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for checking out the videos, mate! It's true, the scenery here is absolutely beautiful, and I'm fortunate to have such open, picturesque skies to fly in. However, it's worth noting that the terrain can be unforgiving due to its unique morphology and the presence of powerlines, which add an extra layer of complexity to every flight.
      Also, the local weather here on the island is quite unique, with the combination of the sea and mountains playing a significant role. The interactions between these two elements create ever-changing conditions that demand a good understanding of meteorology and flight planning. It's a challenging yet rewarding environment to explore.

      @@neosugus many people asking the same question. i think using the old frame and try to convert that to electric is not a good idea. too many things you need change. that includes cutting tubes off, weld the left holes shut and change tubes positions on frame. its alot trouble just to save like 200-300$? i think the whole electric drive is around 4000-5000$ depending what battery and ESC size you use. it makes alot more sense to get a new frame which is perfect to use electric. the idea to just rip gasoline stuff off and macgyver the electric on is good but not worth it in my opinion. too many things need to be changed. of course its not impossible and people still do it but i dont like it very much. since every gramm counts i would keep the gasoline unit for longer flights and use a dedicated electric ppg for all other flights.

      So, I want to build a very lightweight e-ppg without frame with 5 to 10 minute flight battery pack, and a folding carbon prop. Just the minimum and necesary gear to takeoff from the ground and climb to the takeoff spot ( 400m high ).
      Once there, stop the motor and ftrom there freeflight... Without frame ( rings and netting ) and a folding prop the drag will be minimum. ;)

  • @NotBarbraStreisand
    @NotBarbraStreisand 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Battery capacity is measured in watt hours, not amp hours. It's trivial to build a battery that holds any number of amp hours just by dropping the voltage lower and lower. But that isn't useful. Cell phone batteries are measured in amp hours so that cell phone manufactures can mislead customers. Car manufactures are better and more honest and so use watt hours.
    watts = amps * volts
