Your laid back attitude and patience to the extreme is refreshing. So many channels are run by over-excited persons. I guess something for everybody. You're right up there with "The Lock Picking Lawyer". Your channel is great!
Your demeanor and the way you teach remind me so much of my high school freshman (only went there one year) small engines and auto mechanics teacher. He was awesome. He also recognized when I had a concept pretty well grasped, and allowed me to go take naps in his office, kind of like when you are all "you guys have seen me do this plenty of times, so I will leave it out of the video."
I was about to leave the same comment, in the previous video you can see the difference between that flashlight on high and on low, high isn't flickering like that
Ive been binge watching your videos. It amazes me that even after decades some of these motors fire right up once you get the electric and fuel fixed. I would have thought the metal would have seized or rusted beyond ever running again. Id love to have one of these things, too!
I came upon a good old New England term for the piles of stuff we hoard “in case it comes in handy some day” - sculch. More power to your elbow, good sir; you are an inspiration and a delight.
I'm really getting to like that little bucket. That would be so much fun to cruise around in here in our little village in Germany. Of course, the police would make short fun of that. I don't think there's much chance of getting it through the TÜV technical inspection. Looking forward to another drive! Thanks for the great update.
With a 2 in 3 Exhaust without a catalysator you'll get no Friends at the Gouverment, even you get it licenced as an Oldtimer ( means less taxation, in Germany possible if more than 30 years old and is historical important, but it has to be Original) so no way to drive it for longer than 10 minutes, then you win a Date the Cops and they will use the biggest Hammer to find to destroy this "thing".Also you now a really good trick to pass the Customs. But,funny Pictures in the mind.
Great job sir. I do that stuff for my clients. Recently my friend Carol she's my client her husband passed away and there's a 1990 GMC S10 Jimmy four-wheel drive. It was in her Barn for 10 years got it all running and it works great
Wow! That muffler you made is amazing!! Excellent innovative redesign and build! Just plain great! Your battery box location and build was perfect also.
I was so happy you went with three tailpipes, that looks great and sounds good too. Always a pleasure hanging out, I dig this channel, its like hanging out at the neighbors garage, very calming. Thanks for sharing!
Mustie that sounds like fun for the yard ride the lights Are going to be a fun challenge looking forward to that installment and the ride of course lol!!! : P
This is a fun project to follow. The Cushman is very similar to a 3 wheel Westcoaster mailster. They were quite popular around here back in the day. Keep up the good work.
Really enjoying the Cushman series, Mustie. I sure hope that heat exchanger isn't rusted out on the inside. CO coming in from the warm air vents to the cab would make for a really bad day.
When I was a kid I went to military school and they had green genuine military surplus 3 wheel cushmans we called "D" carts. (D for displaced person)- hey I didn't name them-. The faculty drove these all around, and I remember a few out of control on snow days. The engines sound the same, they had pickup bodies on the back, and vinyl side curtains that covered the drivers' compartment.Neat stuff.
I remember those Cushmans from 40 years ago. At 30 mph (top speed with your foot to the floor) the noise was deafening, even with a new muffler and a low mileage scooter.
Always enjoy hanging out in the shop, also if you've never seen the channel Temp Tales you'd get a kick out of it, bet you've met some of those guys over the years... Hi from Maine.
These are funny machines. Last summer i drove one couple days at work moving dirt in and out from tight backyard. It was an old machine from golf course so it had some wide tyres and a tilting bed on it. It also had a kubota diesel in it, It was kinda sketchy but was 10x better than wheelbarrow.
Nice Find! Unless I missed it (always a Possibility) you've still got the old oil in the crankcase. Considering the moisture of the last 25 years. at least some has gotten into the engine. Start the engine and you're scraping it off the cyl walls, cam lobes etc. If you haven't got it out of the engine, I would do so immediately as this stuff is like sand in there. Just a thought! Also, I would ream the lug holes in the wheels at least a 1/32" and countersink deeper. This would give the lugnuts more bearing surface, again, just a thought. Terry
Probably ate the headliner, too. damn mice. You have no idea how hard it is to remove mouse piss smell from a car. Unless you've done it, that is, and I don't envy you because I don't think I'd do it again unless I REALLY liked the car.
Your doing great...Youll be at 500,000 subs in no time making some real good money. And you have great content. I love the way you look at things and plan them out. You help me with my projects I have at home .. Thanks mustie
Been a big fan of the "goof off" brand. Can buy in few different containers, but works great on almost any grease. Like most , used to use gas too clean parts and hands. Gonna have to experiment on that carb varnish myself. This fing ethanol , gums any small engine in few months, especially with floats.
Those old AC fuel pumps were just everywhere back in the day and I really liked them a lot, I still have at least three of them... Honestly I can't remember for sure but it seems like those did not have pressure shut offs inside them... I could be wrong it has been many years, but they were such simple pumps. I really want to say that if they were on they were on and wanted to pump fuel... I wish I could remember better.
They are good vehicles and can take a lot of beating. You can use a Honda muffler as they are cheap, small and won't make a lot of noise. Also they tend to overheat due to the fan relay getting damage sometimes, thermostat etc. An extra and manual engine fan will be a great idea when the summer heat comes in.
This is the coolest vehicle I have ever seen. I am really sad that you can't find this in Europe... Anyway, I love all your videos, but this is clearly the best so far for me :)
For some reason your microphones pick up exhaust sound much better than most sounds. I have noticed this on several of your videos. Other than that, your videos are the greatest.
I really liked the tripple pipes !!!! I think you definateely made the best choice cause I would have left it straight ! As usual you always seam to make the vest choice @
I use forensics to locate possible positions for batteries and such. By using the length of the existing cables and where they would reach I can tell where they were located within a few inches
Had a 72 twin slide door VW bus back in the 80s and the tail pipe rusted off but the rest was sound , it was letting fumes into the bus so walked to my local scrapyard (UK),.cut about a foot from the end of a Ford Cortina exhaust and tacked it on. It changed the sound of the bus from pure VW to a little bit Ford, not unpleasant but weird. Scrapy was 100 yardsstraight down hill from us we rolled so many wrecks down that road
So, I was like "Cool a 42 minute Mustie vid!" Then you said " I think we're getting to the end of this video, too" And I went "Whaaaaat?" Mustie1 can make 42 minutes go by in the blink of an eye!
Run some transmission fluid through the gas tank, you only need a couple of ounces for that small of a tank. And it is fine to run through the motor to, it will clean and lubricate.
I did some stainless MIG welding on my pontoon boat and was indeed having a difficult time at first. Then on the second attempt I started to lay down some better welds - what? That's when I noticed I had accidently left the gas off. Unexpected result but hey - it worked. Thanks for sharing...
Love the videos man. I've started basically doing what you do but I'm a carpenter during the day and the mechanic at night :) thanks again for the videos
I like to cut up large inner tubes and line the bottom and sides of battery boxes. Holds then tight and no wiggle. Did it on my Wife's 2001 Honda civic that still runs like a champ. Your battery will last longer not being directly on metal. My old Chief Aviation Mate I worked for taught me that when I rebuilt the front clip on my 1962 Chevy half ton in the ground support shop I was in charge of 79/80 at Miami Airstation. When it comes to ADMC's, shut up and listen. They tend to get a tad fiesty ifn ya don't.
Sounds like it has a hot cam. I'd have narrowed the outer pipe to 2 inches instead of the 3 pipes and sent it out back so the exhaust doesn't leak into any holes in the body that lead to the driver's compartment. Your fabricating skills are excellent for what got done though.
You need to put 60 series tires on aluminum slot rims! Chrome lake pipes on each side and wheelie bars in back. The police would LOVE it! Take it to schools for the kids to see....I digress....
The fast forwards parts so funny..only thing I see is with the exit of the tail pipes.very close to intake for heater part but guess if your not stopped giving tickets to parked cars you maybe fine.good video as always
That fuel pump looks like a Mitsuba type. They have, I think, a fuel filter pot at the bottom that unclips. Might be clogged up. Don't know if they run all the time but some do and use 2 valves to control the flow the same as a mechanical pump. Low pressure suction rather than a pressure feed pump, only about 2 psi which is fine and doesn't overload the float needle. The engine doesn't seem to like the back pressure of that silencer. Better now it's smaller but not ideal. 2 into 1 into a Cherry Bomb maybe better. Valve adjustment might help.
fill the opening with copper currly kates scrubbers, works well quieting it up, we used to stuff our motorcycle mufflers to get thru motor vehicle inspection
Ayy Mustie the flashing on screen is from your LED light. Ive noticed with my particular light and camera it gets worse when I use the low and medium outputs of the flashlight.
With a carbureted engine your fuel pump doesn't need to push very much pressure, I believe about 5-7psi is about the max pressure needed for a small carbureted engine to run properly. I'd think a lawn tractor battery would be a better route to go, a bit smaller so it would save a bit of space.
Your laid back attitude and patience to the extreme is refreshing. So many channels are run by over-excited persons. I guess something for everybody. You're right up there with "The Lock Picking Lawyer". Your channel is great!
Ditto Brooks. Well Said! Zip~
Pro tip: watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Aldo Philip Yea, been using flixzone} for since november myself =)
LPL rules! Not surprised a mustie fan knows about LPL.

thank you benton
I'm starting to think there is nothing this man can't fix! Amazing series keep it up !
The flicker is probably the LED torch. They often use pulse width modulation to drive the LEDs and control the power level.
THat's exactly it. It was only flickering when he turned it down to low
Donald Perrin It reassuring to know that even though I'm male I might be right once in a while. 😂
I was just about to post the same thing
Ditto. Basically flashes the LED really fast to reduce the light output.
I was about to leave the same comment, in the previous video you can see the difference between that flashlight on high and on low, high isn't flickering like that

Bruce Boschek Oh ja! Am Sonntag damit zum Bäcker fahren, oder mal durch die Stadt würde bestimmt echt Spaß machen ;)
Parkplatz finden wäre dann kein Problem!

Another survivor brought to us by the Mustie1. Thank you for keeping these old machines alive a little longer.
Great job sir. I do that stuff for my clients. Recently my friend Carol she's my client her husband passed away and there's a 1990 GMC S10 Jimmy four-wheel drive. It was in her Barn for 10 years got it all running and it works great

Nothing will beat a handcrafted exhaust system. The sound is excellent.
Mustie that sounds like fun for the yard ride the lights Are going to be a fun challenge looking forward to that installment and the ride of course lol!!! : P

Great video Alvin! I love this project and can Envision all kinds of uses for it. Great job.
check the right rear under the payload box for a battery box ,that's where Cushman put them when I worked on those units.
nothing was left
I remember those Cushmans from 40 years ago. At 30 mph (top speed with your foot to the floor) the noise was deafening, even with a new muffler and a low mileage scooter.
Alvin and the welders ! LOL think you nailed it with the muffler ! Perfect !
Always enjoy hanging out in the shop, also if you've never seen the channel Temp Tales you'd get a kick out of it, bet you've met some of those guys over the years... Hi from Maine.
That Cushman Looks Like So Much fun!
I like the muffler set up, nice job. LUV the 40+ min. videos Thanks
This little thing gets cooler with every video. Custom paint and upholstery next?
Your Alvin the Chipmunk impersonation is coming along leaps and bounds!
This has become a real wildlife channel. Mice last time and now the chipmunks
Steve McLean - Sounds like Chip and Dale.
Alvin!!!
Old guy comment I heard Cousin It Adams. :-)
Welding with the chipmunks !
I like the battery tray, it looks easy enough to access.
That pump is ill, "That's your problem" lol
Exhausting work :)

Don't kill the mouse I think he spins the heater blower

The TH-cam Phantom Official
Try having mouse piss smell in the insulation in your cooking oven. How badly do I want those cookies??!?
Yeah, that sounds bad. i'd just get a new oven at that point.
The TH-cam Phantom Official
I lived in rural Africa and it was the only stove I had. No way to replace insulation that I knew of.
@@lsswappedcessna ozone generator, i am confident will remove almost any smell from anything
Please keep up with this project... I've grown quite fond of it!
Some marvel mystery oil mixed into the gas might help that fuel pump
That weak fuel flow reminds me of me first thing every morning.
All They Found Was A Boot,
Hey if you leak petrol, your diet is really odd lol :-D
what are you half dead at wake up time i am
Sounds like you need to take a Saw Palmetto pill everyday! Believe it or not, THEY WORK! ;)
Morris Code?
Flomax, it works! ...and cut out the caffeine.
Your doing great...Youll be at 500,000 subs in no time making some real good money. And you have great content. I love the way you look at things and plan them out. You help me with my projects I have at home .. Thanks mustie
Good job Mad Max!!I think the chev alternator is dragging lol
Awesome sound to it. I can confirm that. Heard it on my Yamaha stereo.
1500 Valkyrie exhaust. Nice job.
Love the chipmunk welding 😂 Great vid look forward to them , big thumbs up from the uk 👍
Awesome videos of the meter maid Mustie
I don't know why but I love this thing, I really want to drive it!
Your videos are my favourite thing to watch.
I think you should somehow mount that muffler to the chassis or it will probably break off.
Too much weight and overhang imho.
It's always a fine time when your incandescent bulb pops when you're working with gas.. flash dance oh what a feeling!!
Also cool 3 wheeler mobile car too and lot fun plus exhaust set up!
Been a big fan of the "goof off" brand. Can buy in few different containers, but works great on almost any grease. Like most , used to use gas too clean parts and hands. Gonna have to experiment on that carb varnish myself. This fing ethanol , gums any small engine in few months, especially with floats.
The time lapse adds so much to the videos. Thanks.
This is probably one of my favorite projects

The best is Mustie in the morning, well right up there anyway. Just great to watch you teach. Mouse ~did you catch it?

It is 4am where I live and I was bout to go to sleep dang it
2am ditto
hunter it 6.30 over here
I love this thing, it would be the ultimate grocery getter hehe. :-D
Great video and a Chip and Dale visit. Sounds like half a VW so could be either the V or the W.
love the chipmonk voice keep up the great work!
I like the battery box, more in that forward spot, behind the body panel, w/ the posts to the engine side. seams more protected. just my two cents !
For some reason your microphones pick up exhaust sound much better than most sounds. I have noticed this on several of your videos. Other than that, your videos are the greatest.
Paint and body/ rust removal you do great work would love to see this restored!
I really liked the tripple pipes !!!! I think you definateely made the best choice cause I would have left it straight ! As usual you always seam to make the vest choice @
(Psst , crack) 🍻 nothing better than a mustie1 video nd a beer .
Started it this morning with a coffee before work at daybreak; finished it with a beer after coming in after the sun set.
This was a 2 beer episode.
Cool ! sounds like a VW beach bug
I love the fast forward part. Thanks for the videos.
I use forensics to locate possible positions for batteries and such. By using the length of the existing cables and where they would reach I can tell where they were located within a few inches
RLV kart mufflers. Amazing sound, high flowing and small.
HI YOU ARE SO METICULOUS IN EVERYTHING U DO TKS AGAIN RON
Without a silencer (muffler) it sounds like a cross between a V8 and a Hog.
It did sound pretty good. Was wondering what company builds those engines
Needs some chrome stacks like on an 18 wheeler .
I like the muffler and sound, small racer !
This is another great series Thank you cant wait for the next one..
Sounds good!!! Good job!!

What’s more challenging, wiring (lights, ignition and getting a spark) mechanical (engine, starter, fuel pump etc) or fuel problems like carburettor.
Sounds Great! Your the man Mustie.
I like to cut up large inner tubes and line the bottom and sides of battery boxes.
Holds then tight and no wiggle.
Did it on my Wife's 2001 Honda civic that still runs like a champ. Your battery will last longer not being directly on metal.

They tend to get a tad fiesty ifn ya don't.
You made some great progress
Awesome exhaust,love the tail pipes
ah it wasn't a mouse it was a chipmunk. but that is one talented chipmunk
Love your videso keep then comming I look forward to then being to a new videso

Flickering is due to the LED light you where using, it's turning the LED on/off really fast to preserve power..
satanclaw
It flashes to control the brightness of the LED,
Sure, but it also uses less power by doing it.
bob p yeah there are two ways to dim LEDs. With changes in voltage or with PWM. PWM saves more power.
You need to put 60 series tires on aluminum slot rims! Chrome lake pipes on each side and wheelie bars in back. The police would LOVE it! Take it to schools for the kids to see....I digress....

Nice to see it back in action great pipes restore is that the only one left in the area you live
Awesome . . . . looks like a bunch of smiles . . . Rog
Alvin?!! I didn't know he could weld!! LOL!!
That fuel pump looks like a Mitsuba type. They have, I think, a fuel filter pot at the bottom that unclips. Might be clogged up. I love the exhaust, sort of a rat rod look, it is awesome.
fill the opening with copper currly kates scrubbers, works well quieting it up, we used to stuff our motorcycle mufflers to get thru motor vehicle inspection
I can't stop thinking about Eddie Murphy Raw, might have been Delirious. "Whoo Whoo, Puull Ovaha Puull Ovaha"
Ayy Mustie the flashing on screen is from your LED light. Ive noticed with my particular light and camera it gets worse when I use the low and medium outputs of the flashlight.
It sounds like a chopper motorcycle when you welded the first exhaust on the two short pipes I like the sound f it great video
With a carbureted engine your fuel pump doesn't need to push very much pressure, I believe about 5-7psi is about the max pressure needed for a small carbureted engine to run properly. I'd think a lawn tractor battery would be a better route to go, a bit smaller so it would save a bit of space.
Mustie,Coffee n cigrits in the morning!
Keep'm coming Mus!!
was that a next hint for the next build that would be pretty cool at the end of the video with the tracker
