The display on my M1 MacBook Air still surprises me for how good it looks.. same with speakers. I have the base 8GB Ram and 256GM ROM and not had an issue yet in three years. Best value for sure for a laptop (entry/budget).
Wow! Would you mind sharing how much space you have left after three years of use? I’m considering getting the same ram and storage but I’m concerned if the storage and structure of the laptop will last four years of medical school.
@@niahm3339 I have this exact model and I can tell you, for studying its absolutely fine! Just avoid putting unnecessary data on it a little and that's it :) Since 2021 and attending collage in fall 2022 I only have 50GB stored on it. Have fun with it!
And even with the base model - if you need more space just buy a usb-c ssd. I got a terabyte one from Amazon for 30$ and haven’t had any issues. That and pairing it with upgraded iCloud storage and you’re good to go.
The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES! Unless you're looking for a machine that can constantly handle very demanding tasks! It's a good laptop for most users even four years after its release. With Apple prices in Brazil making their products inaccessible to 90% of our population, "older" machines like this one tend to be found on the market quite often around here for a "reasonable" price. Not to mention that with the price you pay for a M1 here you could get a base M2 or M3 with no problems. Anyways, nice video.
Been using this for all of college since 2021 fall it is still kicking wayyyy above it’s belt. I am an electrical engineering student for reference and it does everything I need to with no issue. I'm using the base M1 Air for web development with Laravel and Django and it works fine with zero issues, very productive. I have also used it to play around with local LLMs using LM Studio, it runs 3B and 5B models fast enough consuming 6-7GB of RAM. Apple silicon is so good that my next upgrade will not be the latest chip but will instead be an M2 probably next year when prices have dipped by 30-40%.
1. I bought the Macbook Air M1 last November and it's absolutely perfect for what I need. Don't need anything more. 2. You are underrated bro. Next-level editing.
I have the MacBook Air M1 8gb, 512gb - and it still runs like a beast! I use Logic Pro 11 and it never struggles! I think it will take a long time to be beaten 💪
Hello! Glad to see a fellow Logic Pro User.. I was sceptical.. still am about using air m1 for music production. I hope it is still going strong. So, would you still recommend it?
Whoever's looking to buy this laptop is probably on a budget, and isn't looking to buy the M2 Air. Honestly, the design is something you don't even pay attention to when you're focused looking at the screen or typing, so if that's what's turning you off, don't worry! It's still remarkably reliable for anyone who doesn't NEED a pro.
The only 'MacBook' that I need is my 'MacBook Lite' or my 'Crapbook Pro', which is my 8th gen Intel hackintosh. In all seriousness, if I was still using this thing by the time I go to college I don't even think I'd mind 😂. It runs most Mac software and is plenty fast for me. Such a shame Hackintoshes are getting killed off imo, it's a really good way to get an ultra budget mac experience.
I recently sold my 13" M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB of memory and 512GB storage. The storage sufficed but for video editing and graphic design the memory was insufficient, despite making loads of TH-cam videos with it. I'm upgrading to the M2 Pro 14" MacBook Pro. I'm going to miss the Touch Bar though 😢
I just encountered this channel for the first time yesterday, and I gotta say so far very impressed!! You’re straight forward, honest, and cut right to the point! I Appreciate it and I’m definitely subscribing, keep up the good work! ❤
M1 will still support AI inteligence For me the only time it heated was when trying to play War Thunder... But yeah while programing and editing full hd videos I had 0 problems (Use safari cause of Tab Groups to save RAM)
One of the greatest performance advantages of the M1 Air 256GB model had SSD read/write speeds that was twice as fast as the M2 in the same base spec. The performance gains when the SSD was needed for swap memory is infinitely better in the M1 Air over the M2.
Love all your videos. You explain things better than any other Tuber. I got my M1-Air in 2022 and still using it. Cannot complain about a single thing. Im am a windows user since 1994, and been all my life up until recently. I learn a lot from your videos. Still trying to figure out if Apple is good enough for Business use. And if it can be used when the rest of the company is using Windows PC's/Laptops. Don't stop making these videos, would love to see a video on how you make your videos.
I am currently using a Macbook Pro 2014 model and was thinking of upgrading. The M2 and M3 with 16 GB RAM are too expensive for me and the problem is that in Pakistan, only the base model of Air M1 is available. I am a light user but I might open a TH-cam channel soon. It won’t be a heavy editing sort of a channel because I mostly will just edit videos to cut out mistakes as my channel would be simply based upon talking and discussion. Part of me is tempted to buy it but then the future proofing aspect especially with 8 GB Ram just makes me hold for now.
I am planning on buying the m1 mba rn. Here in my country the 8GB 256GB variant is the only available spec. But I think that it is enough for my daily tasks. I am a college student and most of my applications and tasks are web based. I also do light programming on colab and python. I also care about the battery life. My current laptop is leaving me stuck always at an outlet. Is it still worth it in 2024? Will it last me more than 5 years? How many years of software support will I receive? I am planning to use it for more than 5 years. Can someone give me thoughts on this? UPDATE: I have bought the M1 MBA a few days ago and I am loving it. First time using macOS. The battery life is insane.
Bought an M1 MacBook Pro in 2024 with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage and it runs like a beast and beats my 1,000+ dollar pc for only 500 bucks on video editing tasks and even with some more intense 3d modeling it still keeps up amazingly, I will keep rocking with this thing until the battery dies, replace it, and use it into the ground. I love my Mac so far.
The problem is not performance, but support. Apple is about to release a M4 macbook line. How long is the M1 line goint to keep receiving MacOS updates? That's the question.
Congrats. 1st video in a long time that i haven't sped up bec editing was interesting. ✌🏻 As for the Air, its a no-go for me bec screen & internal memory are too small. I have 200 gb i wanna transfer into a new MB from old MBP.
tbh i like the old tapered design much more than the new boxed out flatter design, and sadly i'm among the only few who do, it's cuz the old tapered design made it seemingly look thinner and more compact than it actually is, also, the tapered MBA feels much better to type on for prolonged sessions cuz the keyboard sits at a slight angle when placed on a desk unlike the new one which sits flat, i'm not bothered by the return of magsafe frankly cuz i wanna have a single charger to charge all my devices, and the old MBA just looks cleaner, more compact, thin and visually pleasing to me, it's one classic design and i wish Apple still produced it, i loved that design. that seeming thinness is what used to distinguish it from the MBP and made it so desirable to own, and now there's not much to differentiate the M3 MBA and the M3 MBP apart from the additional ports and the cooling fan, M3 MBA just looks like a cheaper version of the MBP and not a product otherwise different from MBP as it had been since 2018 iteration of the MBA's design. i get the whole hinting back to the classic boxy design, but cmon, it's 2024 and a few users like me want the thinner, tapered aesthetic much more than the boxy design, the tapered one just screams as the more premium and desirable design to me, the flatness of the new design just pushes me away.
Personally for me the wedge allows for a more comfortable typing experience, so that's why I love it. But I'm still using my M1 MacBook Air 8gb model that I bought in 2020, and I just don't really see the need to upgrade right now. It's just perfect for me, and it's just such a good laptop overall!
M1 MacBook Air is a great entry level MacBook (Air) for students, teachers/professors and lightweight users who just want a Mac PC for web surfing and saving a few documents on device. We can surely upgrade this MacBook to a Linux distro after it stops getting software/security updates, and then too it'll be a great option for any entry level Linux user. So go on, buy it, before it gets too late, 'cause the recent MacBook Air models are neither much useful nor have a greater storage in the base models. P.S.: I bought my M1 MacBook Air (8GB/256GB) in December 2023 and works fine as hell.
Biggest drawback is 8GB of RAM and no its quite not enough for someone working on this and using big apps... But yeah I use it because its so cheap anyway, closing apps all the time and cleaning SSD to keep some space for swapping... Yah that's my life now...
If I can afford the M3 MacBook Air, should I get the M3, M2, or M1? I use a M1 iMac (it's a desktop), and I need a laptop computer to be able to go to coding class without needing to use a _Windows_ or bringing an entire computer setup. I think I prefer 1080p over 720p cameras. But maybe you can use your iPhone as a WebCam and shoot 4k 2160p video? I don't want to just bring a Windows, because I have an iPhone, and I need AirDrop and iCloud. Question: Why aren't Apple Chargers called "Apple Juice"? I actually like this kind of video. I would definitely like some more videos like these. Maybe you can make some reviews for some other Apple devices, like the iPhone and iPad.
get the M2, Apple still makes it, plus according to the recent trand, MacOS 15 will drop compatibility for 2018 Macs, which means they're giving Macs updates to new versions of the OS (not Security Updates, they offer that for 10 years) only upto 6-7 years and the M1 MBA is already 4 years old at this point
Yes - the form factor with the slope is still the best Apple design of all time, according to me. They should NEVER have let that go - lightweight beauty. Personally, I don't mind the butterfly keyboard, but the M1 chickletish keys are rad along with the huge speed upgrade - and you can stuff it into a Manila envelope with one hand. Beautiful machine.
If u want more performance then go for the M1 Pro or if u want a MacBook to do everyday tasks then just go for the M2 Air. I bought the M2 Air a month ago and it is perfect for me. Battery life is also excellent
Typing this reply from my M1 Macbook Air with 16/512 spec. configuration. The M1 Macbook Air still smokes many of today's 2024 mid-range Windows laptops.
Excellent review. Thank you. That the Operating System updates/renewals will be for 3 or 4 years less on an M1 MacBook than a new current M3 laptop makes it poor value for me. It would be good if Apple would give you 6 or 7 years of OS renewals/updates from when you buy a new product from Apple, regardless of the chip inside.
Sure, I definitely get that. It's important to have that peace of mind when buying a new device, especially with the high cost of a MacBook. But also, software gets more complex and resource-hungry over time, so older hardware might be a problem. Though the M1 chip still being this powerful four years later, we could even see some longer software support. But you're absolutely right, we're not guaranteed anything.
@@macvince Agreed about the hardware needing to be up to handling the particular new software, so if Apple could give 7 years or more of OS and Security updates for computers that are advanced and powerful enough to handle the new OS and updates from date of purchase new from Apple that would be great. If older Apple computers than 7 years are able to use the new OS and Security updates then Apple could allow them for a reasonable fee, as I do appreciate that OS updates have to be built into the selling price when new. I have a beautiful 2016 27" iMac that is now limited to using Monterey OS that is well up to handling Sonoma. Such a waste that it can't upload Sonoma, especially in these Green Eco conscious times. I would happily pay a reasonable fee to Apple for my iMac to be able to get the new OS updates that the machine is able to handle.
Still perfect most mobile lightweight powerfull laptop with excellent display and keyboard, and no fan. Any questions? There is still NO , no other device like this in the market.
Can anyone confirm if M1 chip 8GB/256GB is good for law school plus if will be installed a company software application use for work (like from what BPO company uses) ? Because I don't know if the said software app is a demanding one once get installed and will be an issue for an M1 chip.
I'm struggling to decide between the MacBook Air with M3 15 inches, (16GB RAM, 512GB storage) or the MacBook Pro with M3 Pro 14 inches (18GB RAM, 512GB storage). Anyone can you tell me which is better?

@@macvince Sure, anything cheap and long lasting with a terminal, unix command line goodies, all day battery life, and macos. Actually the macos part is optional (I will rather use Linux) but I really do want to experience this OS at least once.
If they do this their new MacBooks won’t sell. This is why they let other stores sell them for cheap because they know those customers would never buy a MacBook at the full price.

Totally agree! Very nice
Kitna lags?

I'm thinking of buying a M1.
I know M2 is little poor in performance compared to M1 what's your opinion?
The M2 air 16 gb is a bit pricey in my country so I thought of buying the M1 16 gb 256 ssd or shall I but an m2 8 gb and add a ssd card if needed
Biggest drawback is 8GB of RAM and no its quite not enough for someone working on this and using big apps... But yeah I use it because its so cheap anyway, closing apps all the time and cleaning SSD to keep some space for swapping... Yah that's my life now...
I got one used for $300 USD local sale. No comparison to anything else at that price
so the take away is wait for the M4 series.. coming up soon !!!
@@aravkilak Thanks.
I paid 23,000,000 for my macbook air m1 2020 -- when it was new. In rupiah that is.
Ich flehe dich an, sag mir wie du deine Videos so gut schneidest? Adobe oder Davinci Resolve? Würdest du ein Tutorial machen?
Great video. Super useful for those who are thinking of buying a MacBook now 🤩
Thanks!! Very grateful for your comment, as always! 😀
Beautiful machine.
buying it last year, best laptop i curently use, even though i need to learn little bit but 1 month and im good, aand thats why i found your channel
great! It's a good laptop right?

why do people like the m1 air so much but hate on the m2 or m3 airs for having 8 gb of ram? doesn't the m1 air also have 8 gb of ram?

Should I go with m1 pro or m2 air?
If u want more performance then go for the M1 Pro or if u want a MacBook to do everyday tasks then just go for the M2 Air. I bought the M2 Air a month ago and it is perfect for me. Battery life is also excellent
The editing is 🔥🔥🔥
Many thanks!
Damn Arnold has lost a lot of weight. Looks 30 years younger.
Can you make a video on the m3 max MacBook Pro the top model and explain who it’s for and who it isn’t , that’s what I have and I love it
Typing this reply from my M1 Macbook Air with 16/512 spec. configuration.
I am willing to buy a macbook, currertly looking at the macbook m1 2020. Is it worth it?
Just go for it, you won't regret it. With care, it will last for 7-10 yrs.
@@prabalpanda0786 Thanks for your response, ill take it into my decision!
How much it costs in the US in 2024?

Still perfect most mobile lightweight powerfull laptop with excellent display and keyboard, and no fan. Any questions? There is still NO , no other device like this in the market.
The thumbnail you put out said Macbook SE, what's the deal. Its MacBook air same as Mac Book SE.
does the macbook air m1 gets slower with MACOS SEQUOIA update?
I just got mine last week from Walmart. My first MacBook and I love it!
Glad to hear that!
Can anyone confirm if M1 chip 8GB/256GB is good for law school plus if will be installed a company software application use for work (like from what BPO company uses) ?
Because I don't know if the said software app is a demanding one once get installed and will be an issue for an M1 chip.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you so much for your support!! 😊
Amazing vid!!
Many thanks!
I'm struggling to decide between the
MacBook Air with M3 15 inches, (16GB RAM, 512GB storage) or the MacBook Pro with M3 Pro 14 inches (18GB RAM, 512GB storage).
Anyone can you tell me which is better?
I‘d see if I can get a M2 MacBook Pro 14 inch for the same price or less as the M3 MacBook Air!
@@macvince In my country, the MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip costs only $50 more than the one with the M2 Pro chip, so I might as well choose the M3 Pro

it's a sin they didn't put oled in those laptops. apple is behind on all levels now, make no sense.

Yeah bro, so close!!!! Thanks for the support! 💪
It's true. M1 macbooks should be re-launched by Apple as direct chromebook competitors at similar (chromebook) prices.
Great idea - why not as a MacBook SE - maybe with a new chip. :)
