Thank you Arrma for a true RTR beginners are seeing the benefits from good technology as the world of RC advances & there has been a number of really good releases for relatively cheap. Gotta love it.
Yea I feel like once the scx24 blew up companies realized small, high quality, full RTR RCs would sell like hot cakes and they just keep getting better
Good video! I picked up the Typhon grom yesterday from a local shop. I absolutely love this rig. I purchased it for smaller area rips. Running it completely stock until it breaks. Great little rig!
I have the tlr typhon and absolutely love it. Does well on the track and fun to bash. Also, it is super durable. Just bought my 4 yr old grandson the grom, so we have matching blue buggies. Love how you can turn it down to 50% throttle. Figure it will be a perfect first rc for my grandson to learn on.
I picked mine up this week. Its very well built, heavy even. Wish the tires had foams but thats less of a problem than the incredible heat from the motor and the dumb smart battery. I addressed these by adding a balance lead to the battery and cutting out the windshield on the body to help cool things down. As a basher its great, its over geared so its fast, and it handles rougher terrain well. On my small tight technical carpet track, I could not match my jrx2 lap times despite the grom being much much faster. It traction rolls a lot on my carpet.
I had never heard of that! I haven't attempted any tuning of it yet, I was just trying to get a feel for it box stock. I built my track for the Mini-T and JRX-2 so naturally its a little tame for the Grom. Hard to beat that JRX2. Best handling car I've ever owned.
Stock grom class runs at 50% throttle. Mini B and mini T brushed stock classes also. Yes Friday nights until summer outdoor takes over the timing setup
I already converted mine to the Hobbywing Quicrun 16BL30 ESC QR2445 G3 6500KV Motor Combo. It is a screamer. If you plan on running on a carpet track the 4500KV is plenty fast and perfect with foam carpet tires. I love this little buggy! I also put all the upgraded metal diff internals, metal drive shafts, and aluminum oil-filled shocks. So much fun in a small package.
This is a fantastic budget competitor to the Relfex 14B. It drives surprisingly well for having empty tires and no center diff. Flies perfectly. Almost exactly the same size too, despite different scales.
That’s my local hobby shop. We race the Mini T/B and also run the Granite Grom. Though we started last week running the Typhon Grom as well since a few of us picked one up. It’s a blast. My son has the Granite Grom, but I prefer buggies, so when the Typhon dropped, I picked one up.
Just got mine and I'm liking it so far. It's perfect for little kids right out of the box. I couldn't leave it alone though. Had to put brushless in it and a faster servo..also some tires with foam. The associated 14b tires work perfectly or some smaller rally tires I found at my local shop.
Also depends on where you are running it. The indoor track at GalliMods that Greg demoed it at isn’t huge. The Typhon Grom at 100% with brushed motors is way too fast for the space literally flying over the timing loop off the jump, which is why we run it at 50% to keep it competitive. Outdoors or just bashing, brushless would be a good option and maybe at some indoor tracks that are much larger like a 1/10 size.
This was awesome... I was liking the WlToys 14010, but this would be preferable... I love the typhon styling. The footage on the first lightly dusted fine gravel suface was :3....
This is a good thing, but also don't forget the Team Associated 14b if you want a small buggy that can do over 30mph straight out of the box. Whilst not a basher buggy, the handling on the 14b is fantastic & it's pretty tough. Just mentioning it as I adore mine & think it's often a forgotten alternative in this end of the market.
It’s an SLT receiver, so it could be bound to other SLT transmitters, but a DSM transmitter like the DX5 wouldn’t work without changing the receiver and ESC.
We race the Mini T/B and the Granite/Typhon Grom at the GalliMods track in the video. It is early days for running, but so far the Mini B is faster around the track. My fastest lap on the Mini B is about 250-500ms faster than the Typhon, but I’m much more consistent with the Mini B, so in a race it will fall behind. But, I’ve only run it box stock thus far, tuning the shocks could make a big difference. It could be different at larger tracks though.
Awesome Video. I bought one for my son's upcoming birthday. He actually wants the granite grom so I bought him the typhon and ordered the granite. I will trade him when the granite gets here. Any word on what the shortage is about for the granite groms?
Are used to have a team associate reflex which reminds me of this. I love that little 1/14 scale but the plastic dips kept stripping. Have you noticed any issues with the diff on this yet?
So sold, im definitely buying one immediately, i always wanted the 1/8th scale but couldnt justify spending $700+ frickedy moneys, now i can get a feel for it and if i absolutely love it then maybe i can pull the trigger on the big brother, or maybe this will be perfect and plenty enough to keep me satisfied!
Yea nowadays the latrax aren’t worth their money…. Ever since the boom of the scx24 (which is why everyone makes small RCs now) there’s been a ton of better options for every kind of small scale RC
I iust got one yesterday and enjoy it a lot. Only complaint is that it didnt come with ihstalled headlights. If it had been I woulda been fine paying extra. At $140 it is a great bargain imo. It seems easier to control without fishtailing as frequently as other similar scale trucks. IMO Arrma "knocked it outta the park" with this RC. Excellent video. TY. o7
I’m slowly starting to move from 1/10 to smaller scale rcs. I find them more convenient because of their smaller size and durability. So I’m really considering this one or a Losi mini b
I have a little question. so I've been interesting in having a buggy sometime but I mainly have stadium trucks. What are the advantages buggies have over stadium trucks? bonus question: would Arma be the go to team for a buggie. I noticed their library looks pretty nice compared to Traxxas
Lower CG, less weight and can go around a track faster with the better handling. But they can be more twitchy than a stadium truck, so not as easy to drive.
Hi, I have a question. How do I reverse the throttle on a Spektrum SLT2? That is, I pull the trigger and the vehicle goes forward. Could you help me? Thanks!
I bought the Granite Grom for my 4 year old boy and the diff are already broken. He doesn’t bash or anything else than normal drive at 50%. I ordered the metal diff and metal Axles. It should be fun to work on that little car. 😊
Yikes. I was landing on throttle on purpose just to try and blow out the composite outdrives and couldn’t. The Granite is swinging bigger tires so maybe that plays a roll.
4000 kv 2440 brushless it flys on 2s lipo. Wheels spin so fast they balloon and make weird noises. Only problem is brushless esc barely fits under cover with wires for everything and separate receiver and switch
Its low to the ground gets stuck on everything out of the box its ok for a kid but hardly that exciting I put a brushless system in mine now its over 40 mph now thats exciting
Thank you Arrma for a true RTR beginners are seeing the benefits from good technology as the world of RC advances & there has been a number of really good releases for relatively cheap. Gotta love it.

I liked your videos because you didn't try to break your car and you seem to be a good driver plus you showed the speed thanks 😎👍
Hey it looks like it’d be a great stock class
Good video! I picked up the Typhon grom yesterday from a local shop. I absolutely love this rig. I purchased it for smaller area rips. Running it completely stock until it breaks. Great little rig!
Great vid as always! Dang, if I had a track like that close by, I wouldn't stop driving it either! Looks like a stellar spot!
Picked one up a few weeks ago at Gallimods and I love driving it. It's awesome and a ton of fun!
I have the tlr typhon and absolutely love it. Does well on the track and fun to bash. Also, it is super durable. Just bought my 4 yr old grandson the grom, so we have matching blue buggies. The original Typhon was my first RC car. This one is so cute! I think mine needs a baby brother.
Nice, great RC to get started with!
Cool!👍🔥
Yes. Two wheels drive. I have have a rustler that I upgraded from brushed motor to 3s brushless and it’s so much fun!!!!
I picked mine up this week. Its very well built, heavy even. Wish the tires had foams but thats less of a problem than the incredible heat from the motor and the dumb smart battery. On my small tight technical carpet track, I could not match my jrx2 lap times despite the grom being much much faster. It traction rolls a lot on my carpet.
Try running a coating of CA glue on the outside wall of the front tires. Old school cheat to reduce traction roll caused by tire grip.
I had never heard of that! I haven't attempted any tuning of it yet, I was just trying to get a feel for it box stock. I built my track for the Mini-T and JRX-2 so naturally its a little tame for the Grom.

Got this as my first buggy since a Tamiya Holiday buggy. Never realised how good a buggy could drive

I hear that. I kind of wanted to drop a brushless in. But sometimes simpler is better, not to mention less work. So it’s staying as is… for now. 😆
@@rcdriver totally get that.. I just have to tinker

Awesome.. it would be great to a series of you racing it against other groms at the track 😊 Pete
My favorite rc right now.
Is that the bmx track in Meriden?
This was awesome... I was liking the WlToys 14010, but this would be preferable... I love the typhon styling. The footage on the first lightly dusted fine gravel suface was :3....
Dear Arrma, I’m in for a Grom Kraton and a Mojave.
PS. Will you make a convenient brushless conversion for my Typon grom?
Thanks
Great vid 👍
I second all of this!
A Grom Kraton also know as a MJX Hyper Go 14210 😂 that would be interesting
This is a good thing, but also don't forget the Team Associated 14b if you want a small buggy that can do over 30mph straight out of the box. Mohave grom is a good idea but I'm waiting for a 1/12 limitless!!!!!!
Are these able to be binded to a different spektrum transmitter like a dx5?
It’s an SLT receiver, so it could be bound to other SLT transmitters, but a DSM transmitter like the DX5 wouldn’t work without changing the receiver and ESC.
Does it have an opening on the receiver for a transponder?
Looking forward to seeing a Kraton grom 🎉
Sweet! Another great review 💪
Great video.
Would love to see this vs. Reflex 14B vs Losi Mini-B (yeah, 2 wheel drive, but similar size and price point.)
We race the Mini T/B and the Granite/Typhon Grom at the GalliMods track in the video. It is early days for running, but so far the Mini B is faster around the track. Big fun for cheap , Arrma makes good stuff and you can get replacement parts 😊
Absolutely! And if you have an LHS, they probably have the parts.
@@rcdriver your right and I do !

Looks awesome! Think they will realease a tlr grom? I want one!
How does it compare to the losi mini-t 2.0???
THE OFFICIAL "Mini Typhon"! Take that Rlaarlo lol
Reality is the Rlaarlo is way faster😂 but I love all my Arrmas
@@Casitascrawlers I been hearing alot of bad things about them recently, customer service, parts breaking etc Rlaaro
Can you give me some information on how do I go about purchasing this buggy. Thanks. Tim
Hey, man. Any update on a full tour of all your RC vehicles and some favorites. ??

Hi there. Is it possible you will do a review on the Mojave grom anytime soon?
I have one on order. 😀
cool buggy.
Scale? 1/18?
Looks like my next LaTrax replacement.
Own both and the arrma is far superior in durability and speed

Pulling the trigger towards the grip is correct for going forward. Pushing the trigger away from the grip is reverse.
