  • Oregon shattered the meet record for the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 9:19:54 at the 2021 NCAA indoor track and field championship. The Ducks fell behind early but Charlie Hunter put them into first place entering the final leg of the event where they never looked back.

    No disrespect to the broadcasters, but they keep giving wrong info. Reed Brown did make it into the mile finals on time. Second, Teare isn’t only running the DMR. The list of errors go on. I know it’s a difficult job, but the least they can do is ensure their info is correct. Track and Field is already not a frequent televised sport. When it is, make sure you’re stating facts.

      its more your competition than anything. if some other team was game to break it oregon would have broken it. teare left some in the tank because he didnt need it. the 400 has little to do with dmr

      @@nolanmckennaruns Cooper is a better miler than Ches was in college, and has also run faster over 5000m with another outdoor season of eligibility left. No doubt, Ches is the greatest racer of all time in NCAA history, but Cooper will have a respectable career of his own once he’s done. I don’t think 13:10 is out of the question outdoors for 5000m and he could also do very well at the Olympic Trials. Not ready to make the team but definitely top ten in the U.S. potential

    Oregon's Copper wasn't running for time, he was running for points. That's why he suppressed the pace during the first 5 or 6 laps. The other runners made a mistake in following him but maybe they were too afraid to challenge him. Or maybe they wanted to go for points as well. Overall fantastic race.

    WesFly Athletics CEO running a fine 1200m opening leg out in front. Ole Miss could have won this race for sure if the talent pool at Oregon was not so unbelievably DEEEEP. So much talent in the NCAA this year in general, thank god they are putting it on display, would be such a shame if this year had gone to waste like last year.

    I don’t see why it’s so hard for an official to tell the athletes that once they’ve passed the baton to move to the inside and don’t turn to the outside. That’s where you get all that confusion and clustering. The person behind them is going to be to the outside

      the 3k and dmr is already a lot it's not worth it to forfeit a potential really good performance in two other events to have a much lower chance of success in three events

      He crossed the finish line after taking the handoff in 5:26.9 and winning time was 9:19.9. That's a 3:53.0. It looked like he split about 59,60,59 & 54 that's 3:52 and up to 3:53 with the tenths of seconds on each split.

      @@cjcurtis8944 Not really, Relays that have equal distance legs contribute equally. This thing is silly having such short distance legs in between 2 longer ones and the longest one in the end just allows people to catch up.

      ehhhh webfoot has a point, I've watched DMRs (and ran) since 2014 - statistically, it usually comes down to the mile legs. Remember when IOWA had like a 70-80 meter lead in recent years (thanks to the effort of the 1st 3 legs)? Got gobbled up by nuguse and grant fisher - that being said, I find it was of exciting relays to watch

    You write this as if most people know what "DMR" is. I have never heard of this before, (and I ran track and field in jr. & high school).
    Of course I know all the events of a "Decathlon." Never heard of "DMR" before this video.

      It’s only contested indoors. High schoolers don’t compete indoors as a rule. It’s been around for indoor track and field for a long time.
