    Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker of Oregon turned in performances for the ages inside the Randal Tyson Track Center on Friday, February 12, 2021, going 3:50.39 and 3:50.55, respectively, for what are the seventh and eighth fastest marks in world history.
    Needless to say, Teare and Hocker are now No. 1 and No. 2 on the all-time collegiate chart, each more than one full second faster than former collegiate record holder Edward Cheserek.
    Charlie Hunter, who previously clocked the fourth fastest performance in collegiate history late last month at the Razorback Invitational, finished third in a new PR of 3:53.49. That is now the sixth fastest performance in collegiate history, pushing his former best down to seventh.
    The trio had their eyes on various qualifying standards coming into the race - Olympic qualifier for Hunter; U.S. Olympic Trial marks for Hocker and Teare - and through expert pacing by teammates Angus Folmli and Reed Brown, they were well on their way. Once Teare hit the bell at 3:23.21 with Hocker and Hunter right behind him, the only question that remained was “How fast would they go?”

    Slowest looking 3:50 I've ever seen. 2 1/2 seconds off world record putting them 7 and 8 on all-time list. That's right, faster than Centrowitz, Morceli, O'Sullivan, Scott, Elliott, Walker, Pre, etc., etc., etc. Although Teare ran 4:07 in HS, Hocker would have been hard pressed to break 4:10. Looks like the shoes are working and, well, it is Oregon so take that with a grain of salt.

    • @runner4life551
      @runner4life551 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hocker ran 4:07 solo his senior year of high school and was Footlocker National XC Champion. As someone from Indiana who has been racing against him since middle school, he has always been at/near the front of every race he's run and this trajectory was definitely not unexpected. Some people are just crazy talented runners who work hard!

    • @rh9967
      @rh9967 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@runner4life551 if you’re referring to the time on the Oregon site it was a 1600 so add on 2 seconds and you’ll have the mile (4:09) which is nothing special. Just last year they have his fastest listed as 3:58. Going from 4:09 - 3:58 - 3:50 in 2 years is not expected and is progress rarely seen. There are legends like Webb, Scott, Spivey, Falcon, Holman, etc. who went their whole careers and never run that fast indoor. To say he’s crazy talented is an understatement and a statement I don’t find too believable. But what do I care - the sport has been a joke for a while now.

      @@runner4life551 I don’t have a pessimistic view of the sport rather a pessimistic view of what is allowed to go on in the sport. The whole shoe thing is just a small part of an ever evolving problem that has no end. It’s hard to see someone like gold medalist Centrowitz be #14 on their list. 5 of Oregon’s top 10 times were ran in the past year. And the two 3:50 times are so far ahead of everyone else it’s ridiculous.
