I’d like to point one thing out though. It’s super super important for the front face to be very very smooth on all edges. I’ve got 2 tx500n I use for spj and one of them the top edge is relatively sharp. Enough to where I can thumb the line under tension with the braid tied to something and break 20lb instantly. I noticed it while spooling line on initially and tested it out and sure enough it’s shark enough to cut braid very easily if it’s touching at a good angle. In the real world fishing under tension there’s not much of a chance of this but it’s definitely in the back of my mind at all times. Be worth it to maybe just give that whole opening a quick sanding or I dunno what before the sprayed finish. Other than that one possible bad thing I think they are a great reel for a great price and I still recommend them. Just gotta pay attention to that ramp edge on one of mine. Not both but just one.

The exact area I mean is just under the braid coming out of the top of reel. If you push down on that with line guiding hand. Not thumb on actual spool but thumb guiding line back and forth. That surface on one of mine is scary. The two sides and the bottom facing me are good. But under the braid. That one side is sharp enough I put a bead of epoxy on it.

I purchased my first Accurate reel 3 weeks ago and will be replacing all my old reels. In the past after a fishing trip, I'd tighten my drags and soak the reels in luke warm water to get all the gunk off. Then I let the reels dry and then lube them. Not sure if this is the way to do it, but I want to make sure I take care of my properly? Any suggestion out there?

      Alan,
I would stop submerging and lightly spray the reels off with freshwater with drags still engaged. Submerging pushes the containments, mainly saltwater into the reel and once you put drag in free spool there is a possibility of that getting back on the drags. I spray my reels off with freshwater lightly then drag them off and let them set. Once it has dried I back off drag and hold spool and wind. They breaks drag free and helps keep bearings good if their is any intrusion. We have basic lube videos on the channel. Thanks for the question.

From the factory it looks like theres grease packed into the cavities that the screws sit in. I've just been keeping grease on them since day one. Is this better then just putting oil on them?

Not many people take the reel off the pole to clean it.

Anything mechanical needs some care. Even if it stays on the rod you can wipe it with freshwater clothes and dry it. Then oil key spots.

@@AccurateFishingReels I take my rod into the shower and rinse the whole thing down after a day in the salt. I do love my Boss Fury 600 and 500 narrow. Put the 600 (600 yards of 65 pound test) on a Crowder series 2 boat rod. 28 haddock and counting.
