    I dropped my rod/reel (Daiwa BG3000) in the lake. It was underwater for 15-20 minutes.
    Do I need to open it up and clean it? What is the best method..?

    A question I have. After fishing in saltwater out in a boat perhaps and the reel was exposed to some form of salt water if not a splash or what not onto the reel, could you put the reel in a small bucket or container of water to soak and leave it overnight? The next day you shake out the reel and maybe wipe it after with a cloth and leave it to dry. Would the salt water disappear from being in the warm water overnight from the reel? Waiting for your response, thank you.

    been hosing my reels for years and got no problems??. Preventive maintenance does wonders you know. Also not spraying fresh water on your roller bearing is pretty much asking it to corrode... let that salt dry and crystalise all you want, im gonna keep hosing them like ive always done.

    Is the Daiwa bg6500 good for big fishes??

    Safest not to spray. Theres potentially enough force of water withe the spray bottle technique to at the very least penetrate the bail roller bearing which is the most exposed bit of machinery on the reel. Having to get corroded bail roller bearings replaced is the most common form of repair I see where I work. With cheaper reels in particular you'll only get away with it for so long. Use a damp cloth and wipe the reel is the advise I give my customers. Much safer as you dont have to make some arbitrary judgement on how much spray is ok.

      mark rigg these reels are supposed to be market leading, able to handle tough fishing conditions......and now we are told to “baby” them when we clean them????

    • @markrigg6623
      @markrigg6623 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@shauns.fishin Yes. The manufacturers will tell you all sorts of things about their ability to handle tough conditions but are very quick to void the warranty if the reels bearings are corroded due to water intrusion . Daiwa have no hesitation here in Australia to do this even on mag sealed reels. In normal conditions its mostly tha bail roller bearing that fails as its the most exposed. Its the most common chargable reel repair we get where I work and is mostly caused by customers hosing off their reels . I used to do this myself as a youngster but since I've had a policy of no liquid water on my reels ever they have functioned perfectly without the need even to service them. If Im forced to fish in the rain I will dis assemble my bail roller assemby dry and re lubricate it when I get home. Even fresh water emulsifies lubricants compromising the protection qualities of them.

      @@markrigg6623 I always rinse my reel under the tap with not much water coming out and keeping the spool upright. after that I always oil places I know that I can't dry properly (such as the bail roller bearing). Is this alright?

    • @markrigg6623
      @markrigg6623 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jimmyrecard6021 Yes it's a lot better than what most people do, you're being a bit careful. And oiling the bail roller should keep it safe, and its the most exposed thing. Maybe get one of those cheap fine spray bottles instead of the tap and set it to its finest mist. But yes what you're doing should be OK.

    what does tightening the drag do?

    • @AMLuc1320
      @AMLuc1320 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It prevents water from entering the drag stack, which potentially contaminates the drag grease.

    So you mob at Daiwa don't loosen your drag when storing away the reels?

    • @Wade1HUNNID
      @Wade1HUNNID 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be doing this because a tight drag put pressure on the drag washer over time and makes it weaker
