Here's a few pointers if you need them: ) Dante's hair has been solidified thus almost completely obscuring his eyes. ) The cutscene where you get Quicksilver no longer has the white out effect in that one shot ) Vergil's Judgement Cut sometimes goes completely off track and misses the player (not sure if that was present in original) ) The cutscene where you get Cerberus no longer has the brightness increase when Cerberus transforms ) In the Jester cutscene where Dante "makes him dance", Dante can be seen pointing Ebony and Ivory but not firing them ) In the "this is what i live for" cutscene, some of the demons pop in and out of existence
Thank you! Definitely aware of the hair transparency issues. It actually affects Lady and Vergil too, along with a couple of other textures in the game. Noticed the quicksilver cutscene was a bit different too.

DMC is one of the best action game series of all times and as with any work of art is shameful to see such lack of care when porting earlier instances on newer systems. Capcom should do it themselves or at least should know better to who entrust with that work .

I didn't include that version in this because it's clear that the PS4/XB1/PC/Switch version are all derived from the 360 port instead. Plus I didn't have any gear to capture PS3 footage, and it seems clear that version will never be ported to another console. I don't mind giving it its own video someday though.
By any chance will you be examining the Switch version? On a side comment, regarding the fog. While I agree that they should’ve endeavor to keep it it’s for the same reason as you. For me it’s a matter of atmosphere. A constant fog adds an air of mystery to the place, makes it more eerie. Without it it’s an old place, with it there is an air of something wicked this way comes. There is a rumor I have never been able to confirm or find a source for that claims that at the end of the DMC1 production whomever was in charge of archiving the assets for the game accidentally deleted the final build of the game and instead archived an unfinished build. The reason there’s so much missing and other stuff that’s off from the HD ports is because whoever gets to port it has to basically remake the game from a certain point. Missing effects or poorly mixed audio, missing animations and what not, are the result of not being there in the first place. They have to compensate by doing it themselves. Well, that’s the story, anyway. I’ve never been able to locate the thing I read this from so I can’t back up the statement. If someone has a source or proof of this that’d be nice.
I can't believe I just bought it not knowing that half the effects are not present. I would say the effects are on the PS3 version. I bought it for PC since I have DMC 4 and 5 for PC.
I don't have a PS2 should I still play the steam version of the HD collection or buy the Switch port. I know the switch port did both the HD collection and sold the games separately but I'm not sure which version to play. I never got a chance to play the original trilogy so in spite of its flaws I still want to enjoy the series

I'm also in agreement on the Switch version probably not being very different from the other HD releases visually (barring the new Style Switching effects and weapon wheel).
Platinum Conquest Despite appearances I do care a lot about this stuff. I’m happy to get to work on this sort of thing again. And yeah, from the gameplay they’ve streamed of the Switch port it is totally visually identical, aside from the new HUD elements and weapon swapping effects.

Honestly, DMC 1 didn't aged so Well, visually at least But even with that, let's see another example; Halo: CE Is a similar case; Shaders, missing effects, transparency, textures, all of them messed up in Gearbox Port, and people didn't wait to make 343 aware of how the game was essentially broken. And, even with what people say about bad number company, they did their Best effort to "Repair." Halo: CE, and restore the to, at least, try to replicate the look of the OG Game on Xbox Even if the game doesn't aged so Well, you NEED to respect the work and effort to make This game 20 years ago, and honestly, even if i don't have any hope in future fixes, i want to be optimistic and say to myself: "c'mon Capcom, you can do it."

Probably important to mention that the ps3 version has the object motion blur, but is missing effects in weird places.
I didn't include that version in this because it's clear that the PS4/XB1/PC/Switch version are all derived from the 360 port instead. Can you do a comparison on the Switch version? I've made one myself and the texture filtering and the textures look Much worse on the Switch...
