In Britain, thanks to the fucking EU, all new cars for the last four years or so have had day running lights. Doesn't sound a bad idea until you realise they're only on the front.. So now you come up behind people in the dark and all you can see is a number plate glowing from your own lights by which time you're almost on them. There's always been the odd moron not lighting up but it's so much worse now, so much for progress in health and safety..
It gives me the shits when I see so many people driving in the rain without them on. "See how easy it is for you to spot me from a distance and up close? Put yours on!" Is generally what I say aloud to no one 'cause I'm the only one who can hear me, heh. I'm a responder with fire and ses but if my kids are with me I'm not pulling their safety at risk by pulling over to help a stranger that could be a violent offender or risk them getting carjacked etc. No way. If I'm by myself I wouldn't hesitate but not everyone is capable of providing first aid and you could do more harm than good.
You can see the pattern of problems in these videos, too fast in the rain, idiots running red lights, people not paying attention at intersections, so much human error and shitty tires. We need driver refresher courses or something instead of people being able to endlessly renew their license.
We recently had a cold snap here, so black ice may be a factor in 1 or 2 of these videos. However in areas where it is dry like Cronini said oil builds up in the road and without regular rain there is alot of it. So when it begins to rain the first few hours of rainfall the roads become as slippery as ice from all the oil and gunk. Tires with low tread, improper maintenance or just carelessness are also factors.
Black spur on the Calder hwy is known for black ice and thick fog. Never driven on ice but hydroplaning the last thing you do is use the brakes. That being said I suspect that the brakes thing is the same, once your sliding.
Yah maybe, I think the biggest problem is they are never trained to drive in/on water; be it in a liquid or frozen state. Nor are they trained to regain control of a car that is out of control and sliding.
I'm betting half the crashes are idiots texting/talking on their mobiles. I see idiots sitting at the traffic lights when they are green texting every bloody day.

Been on the receiving end of it, was walking back from the pub with a friend when a car pulled up and a guy got out with a fucking SHOTGUN and tried to order us into the car. I don't think a SINGLE one of these was caused by speeding in clear conditions. Yet traffic cops worldwide spend the majority of their time ticketing people speeding in clear conditions. You never see cops pulling people over for running red lights, for failure to yield or for speeding in the rain. Cuz the easy money is people driving perfectly safely, but just slightly over an arbitrary number.
A couple more observations - People don't adjust their speed or 'gap' in wet weather (probably wasn't taught to them for getting a license) and that Wire Rope just threw a vehicle straight back in to the path of following traffic.
There is a pretty serious trend here. Most of these are caused by people running red lights. Where the fuck are the cameras? They're quite happy to camp on the side of the road, but thats not going to do fuck all if this footage is anything to go by.
The problem with redlight cameras, is local jurisdictions get money-hungry. Instead of using them to nab egregious violations, such as blowing through a light that is red and the driver had plenty of time to stop, they get greedy. They typically shorten the yellow lights. Several places in the US have been caught doing this. Then they set the cameras to a hair trigger to catch you even if it was still yellow when you entered the intersection. Finally, they put them in high-traffic areas where traffic often backs up into intersections, then ticket everyone who got stuck in the intersection because the person in front of them stopped.
+Alvin Brinson Aussie red-light cameras don't work that way. Yellow time is set to a standard depending on the speed zone, a correctly working camera only triggers if someone crosses the sensor after red, and infringements should only be issued if the driver proceeded into the intersection. It's rare for mistakes to happen, though some have been unfairly issued (like moving aside for an ambulance). Most people complaining don't understand how they work, or that the stop-line doesn't mark the start of the intersection.
Saturday noon, I was heading back to Melbourne via Princess Highway, and at one intersection, while waiting for the green light, I saw the red light camera flash at least three times onto three late-turning cars LOL
Cars aquaplaning is terrifying, I had a close call the other day when my car decided sideways was an okay way to go. Wasn’t even going the limit as it was raining I was 10km under if not 15km. Tyres/brakes still smoke in wet apparently.

I have indeed seen some of these before, but not in one compilation. One of my least favourite crash was 3:34-3:42, where this bastard hits another driver and then continues as if nothing happened, a hit-and-run, as it's called here in the USA. I hope he gets his ass arrested.

I don't think a SINGLE one of these was caused by speeding in clear conditions.
Yet traffic cops worldwide spend the majority of their time ticketing people speeding in clear conditions.
You never see cops pulling people over for running red lights, for failure to yield or for speeding in the rain. Cuz the easy money is people driving perfectly safely, but just slightly over an arbitrary number.
I have no sympathy for shit motorcyclists. I am one and I ride accordingly.
A couple more observations - People don't adjust their speed or 'gap' in wet weather (probably wasn't taught to them for getting a license) and that Wire Rope just threw a vehicle straight back in to the path of following traffic.

There is a pretty serious trend here. Most of these are caused by people running red lights. Where the fuck are the cameras? They're quite happy to camp on the side of the road, but thats not going to do fuck all if this footage is anything to go by.
The problem with redlight cameras, is local jurisdictions get money-hungry. Instead of using them to nab egregious violations, such as blowing through a light that is red and the driver had plenty of time to stop, they get greedy. They typically shorten the yellow lights. Several places in the US have been caught doing this. Then they set the cameras to a hair trigger to catch you even if it was still yellow when you entered the intersection. Finally, they put them in high-traffic areas where traffic often backs up into intersections, then ticket everyone who got stuck in the intersection because the person in front of them stopped.
+Alvin Brinson Aussie red-light cameras don't work that way. Yellow time is set to a standard depending on the speed zone, a correctly working camera only triggers if someone crosses the sensor after red, and infringements should only be issued if the driver proceeded into the intersection. It's rare for mistakes to happen, though some have been unfairly issued (like moving aside for an ambulance). Most people complaining don't understand how they work, or that the stop-line doesn't mark the start of the intersection.
Saturday noon, I was heading back to Melbourne via Princess Highway, and at one intersection, while waiting for the green light, I saw the red light camera flash at least three times onto three late-turning cars LOL

Cars aquaplaning is terrifying, I had a close call the other day when my car decided sideways was an okay way to go. Wasn’t even going the limit as it was raining I was 10km under if not 15km. Tyres/brakes still smoke in wet apparently.

I have indeed seen some of these before, but not in one compilation. One of my least favourite crash was 3:34-3:42, where this bastard hits another driver and then continues as if nothing happened, a hit-and-run, as it's called here in the USA. I hope he gets his ass arrested.

The first two clips...bikers always whine about "look out for motorcycles". Yeah? How? Vehicles on roadways are supposed to be in certain spots and not in others. But I find it *rare* to see a biker doing anything legal. In the bicycle lane? Sure! Going 30km faster than traffic? Sure! Splitting lanes going 110 in a 100 zone where most of traffic is doing 90? Sure!
