Steve, you said the first generation SLK marked the return of the retractable hardtop. What cars before had a retractable hardtop? Wranglers don't count. ;) Btw, wonderful review!
@Stepside I can't speak for others, but that's not why I made that comment. Mercedes styled this SLK in a more masculine manner in order to attract more male buyers.
@stevehammes Oh for sure, and I'm not criticizing you in any way my man. I do understand the point you were making, but I still think droptops are a bit feminine. Just my humble opinion.
This is still a chick car because no man would go to a Mercedes Benz dealership see the C63 which is similarly priced and choose this V6 convertible over the epic V8 AMG beast.
Seems to me that every time a reviewer rates a convertible, they have to mention how "masculine" it really is. Maybe that's because convertibles are inherently feminine?
I hate how even on the Mercedes website this car is promoted with pictures of old men or young women driving it. I love this car but I hate when its though of like a gurls car or mid life crisis car.
Looking to buy one of these tomorrow! This video was much more informative than the pictures I was looking at online! Thanks :)
Glad it was helpful!
Steve you said this car offers "wind in your hair Mercedes fun". But at 0:18 It appears as though the wind has actually torn off most of your hair!
This is without a doubt more luxurious and technologically superior than a Yaris.

beautiful car
Good review, Steve.
this car is so charming
Never quite cared for the previous versions. MB did a good job with the new SLK! Wouldn't mind owning one of these.
the front fascia looks a lot better for sure
@gheffty93 The Z4 has a harder edge to it...probably a Z4 but it's a toss-up.

@thecarexpert21 I'm blessed.
@khunopie Ha, ha! That's test-driver Chris at the helm. He has very little hair with which to have fun :-)
steve would you take this over a Z4? I personally would not, but I think you know more than me so what do you think?
Where can I buy one
i like this car's tast

@USAFMadMachine Go back to your grandparents' days...Google it. There were plenty.
you must love your job

Im choosing between this and a C63, I might pick the SLK just because of reliability. Most old C63 have high mileage now and was probably driven hard
@@triumphfork9268 and let us not forget the cost of maintenance and repairs to the V8. The 3.5 is very reliable and won’t put you in the poor house.

jeremy clarksons car
SLK > Z4
I have no offense to this cars design whatsoever but if you really do drive this car to school, some ignorant pricks will call you gay just saying
Sorry typing on my phone. *thought *girls
@stevehammes If I was follicly challenged I would opt for a hard top and dark tinted windows. To remain anonymous :}
Z4 > SLK
