- Blondie is an American rock band co-founded by singer Debbie Harry, and guitarist Chris Stein.
The band were pioneers in the American punk and then the new wave scene of the mid-1970s in New York. Its first two albums contained strong elements of these genres, and although highly successful in the United Kingdom and Australia, Blondie was regarded as an underground band in the United States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next three years, the band achieved several hit singles including "Heart of Glass", "Call Me", "Rapture" and "The Tide Is High". The band became noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles incorporating elements of disco, pop, reggae, and early rap music.

This song is brilliant. The drum beat of the country-western ballads, much like the drums of Dire Straits' Walk of Life, blended with the punk sound of the guitar. And then Debbie Harry with that slightly "arrogant", scratchy voice like a bad girl. Iconic.

i remember my mom would play this driving us kids around in her 73 mustang fast back, it was her favorite song, she passed away in 2016 and when i hear this song it brings me back to the mustang days in the late 70's

The song is a masterpiece without even knowing the backstory. Learning the song was written to self-soothe and overcome the psychological trauma her ex boyfriend turned dangerous stalker brings it to a whole new level. Although it caused her to move from New Jersey to the City, she would not let it hold her down. Instead she used it to create a song that is known and loved worldwide , and perhaps the best part is nobody remembers that jerks name...

Blondie put out lots of great singles throughout their career. My particular favourite is 'Hanging On The Telephone', but I also love 'Sunday Girl', 'Dreaming', Picture This' and so many others.
They came out with one classic hit after another during the late 70s and early 80s. Blondie are definitely up there as one of the very best bands of all time.
