This is such a sad(well, due to the sad opening) song from the Oliver & Company movie. I decided to upload it with the actual soundtrack cover instead. This movie originally came out in 1988. This is the opening song to that movie. Lyrics below.
Now it's always once upon a time
In New York City
It's a big old, bad old, tough old town, it's true
But beginnings are contagious there
They're always setting stages there
They're always turning pages there for you
Ain't it great the way it all begins
in New York City?
Right away you're making time and making friends
No one cares where you were yesterday
If they pick you out you're on your way
To a once upon a time that never ends
So, Oliver, don't be shy
Get out there, let go and try
Believing that you're the guy
They're dying to see
'Cause a dream's no crime
Not once upon a time
Once upon a time in New York City
If it's always once upon a time
In New York City
Why does nightfall find you feeling so alone?
How could anyone stay starry eyed
When it's raining cats and dogs outside
And the rain is saying, "Now you're on your own"?
So, Oliver, don't be scared
Though yesterday no one cared
They're getting your place prepared
Where you want to be
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New York City
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New York City
Keep your dream alive
Dreaming is still how the strong survive
Once upon a time in New York City
And it's always once upon a time
In New York City - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
This is one of the most underrated and over looked Disney films. It's one of the best I think.
I KNOWW< I freking LOVE this movie!!!
Rob Innes I used to watch this all the time on my old VHS tape, and I agree. I also, think its underrated. It doesn't get enough praise as it deserves.
*****
I saw this when it first came out 27 years ago 4 times in theaters and had some merchandise and is one of my fave Disney movies and it's overlooked/underrated like Great Mouse Detective, Fox and Hound, Atlantis, and some others.
***** Even the rescuers down under gets over looked too.
***** Well, Rescuers Down Under is a sequel to "The Rescuers," and sadly, it's one of those sequel movies that just doesn't do as well as the first movie.
If a movie can make you happy, sad, and a little scared within the first four minutes; then you have done something right in my opinion
damn it childhood, i'm almost in tears at the nostalgia
Eric Hardeman same dude.😖 time sure flies
Huey's music was still popular in 1988, why wasn't this a major hit back then? Its quite emotional and much mellower than most of his songs but I'm surprised it wasn't an AC crossover, since soundtrack songs were big back then too.
It sounds like a song that deserves to be played on top 40 because it was never released as a radio or physical single. It is one of the underrated Disney opening songs ever.
You know the movie is going to get a banger when Huey Lewis is the opening artist!
I could cry listening to this 🥲 this movie brings back so many good childhood memories. Life is beautiful ❤️
a shame this movie never got the recognition it deserves...easily of the best of not THE best disney soundtracks...
I get a lump in the throat everytime I listen to this song. So many memories!
and the phrase "keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive"....man if that's true!!
"So Oliver don't be shy, get out there and go and try, believing that you're the guy they're dying to see."
cause the dreams no crime, not once upon a time, once upon a time, in New York City
Anyone else holding back tears? Oliver and Company just doesn't get the love it deserves. I personally hope we get a re-release soon, like, maybe on the 30th anniversary in 2018, or something
BronyinDisguise Amen!
BronyinDisguise It did get a Golden globe nomination
Nope I release the tears!
Being released on November 18, 1988, the same exact date as another animated film, The Land Before Time, is the very definition of bad timing.
This is a good song but it is a bit of a tearjerker.
I was born years after this movie, but in 1998 it still managed to be a huge part of my early childhood. As a little kid I fell in love with the tune of this song. I always found myself humming this song throughout elementary, middle, and high. Though... This song and that opening scene make my heart ache so much harder now than it did when I was a kid... Coming to understand the lyrics, while watching that heartbreaking opening scene, now brings me to tears at age 22. Though this movie hasn't aged quite as gracefully as the 90s Disney movies, it's still one I cherish greatly. It has had made a hugely positive influence in my childhood and sparked lifelong creative motivation for me.
Movies like Zootopia seemed like they could potentially recreate the feel, but 2016 simply isn't the 80s. I wish I could've lived the decade to enjoy the music, video games and movies of the era when they were new.
Got to see it in theaters when I was in kindergarten. For show and tell I sang Why Should I Worry. I only knew three lines from the song.
Sad to think I could have been on Ellen if I had been born twenty years later.
@@NateSean Gosh I'm jealous. I would have *loved* to be a kid in the timeframe that films like Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
Granted, I'm just grateful that, in spite of being born in 1994, my parents still got all the aforementioned movies on VHS by the time I reached preschool, but I still would have loved to *live* the era that these movies were actively acknowledged by normies just as much as by cartoon fanatics.
This is exactly how I feel about this movie! It’s like you’re in my head! Wow!
THIS SONG IS STILL GOING STRONG 2021 !!!! - ICONIC - WE NEED THIS ESPECIALLY LIVING IN THESE CORONAVIRUS TIMES, CLIMATE CHANGE, VIOLENCE ON THE SUBWAY AND CITY STREETS, THE FLOODS, THE FIRES, AND EVERY THING ELSE IN THE WORLD - 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Damn, I miss the 80's and the 90's! If I could only go back!
Same here!
Glad I was born 40 years ago
After moving from a small town in the South to the Big Apple, I realized how true this song is. And hearing it after going all that, it makes me cry even more than it did when I was little.
You just summarized my life story, too!
"keep your dream alive... dreaming is still how the strongs survive..." after a broken heart, the greatest words to hear... :')
bought this movie in the early 90's... still have it!!!!! best disney movie ever, no other can compete with it. Disney movies now a days suck!!
Song has me crying in the club
"Keep your dream alive. Dreaming is still how the strong survive."
Underrated movie of the decade, hey Disney should get the creators of 101 Dalmatians 2 patches adventure to make the sequel to this movie.
Every time this song ends, I hear a crowd of people cheering in my head.
Cheering because the song is awesome - or cheering because the song is over? I hope you think the former! :D
I _ADORE_ how dreamy it all sounds. Just...
...Darn, I love it.
And those lyrics...Inspiring, uplifting, and emotional only begins to describe it.
Easily in my top ten Disney songs without a doubt.
When it's your first time in NYC and the first thing you think about is a catchy single made for an underrated Disney movie...
I nearly cried at the fact that I couldn't find the original on Amazon music... bummer.
Right!!! Not on Spotify either. BUT by listening to all the versions of each song I found the originals or ones very close.
This would have been the perfect cover when this movie came out on VHS. This picture of Oliver got my attention that the movie was worth watching.
FML, i just realised there is literally NO WAY fucking possible to TRULY relive a childhood...there never will be. this is the closest we can get..
"keep your dreams alive, dreaming is how the strong survive" once upon a time in New York City! Representing 9/11 and to all the people who still have hope to be happy once again.
Keep your dream alive. Dreaming is still how the strong survive.
I don't live in New York, however, why does this song make me feel much sader than what I am already?? I guess it just reminds me of myself since May 2, 2010, sorry my boyfriend, Craig broke up with me then, and now just hearing this song reminds me of myself, it's so magical and yet still reminds me of my sorrow while trying to keep my head up high. Besides that, I love this song and the movie!
This is the greatest opening song to any Disney film. Yes, including Tarzan, Toy Story & The Lion King
This movie was my childhood, and I still love it whenever I hear this song it brings tears to me seeing other people adopt other kittens, and forgetting the other little kitten before he became Oliver poor little kitten. It makes me wanna adopt a kitten that looks like Oliver, and keep him I've always wanted to go to New York City since I was 10 years old.
Derris Bynum yup, fortunately orange marmalade kitties are easy to find and adopt. Most are also absolute loves too.
I love this soundtrack, I've listened to it dozens of times, only seen the movie 2-3 times. This song is one of the saddest songs that I love. I have the soundtrack on cassette tape.
How could you not love this movie? Just look at Oliver! HE SO CUTE!
This is a great song, and Huey Lewis, I've never listened to any of his songs before, but his voice is great and heartwarming on this song, with a Sinatra-like quality. Another thing that makes this song great is that the lyrics were written by Howard Ashman (RIP)
If you've seen Back to the Future, you've heard Huey Lewis.
@@spearmintpony7105 That or American Psycho.
I cry every time I watch the movie
This song is such an inspiration to me in college I am, struggling but this song makes me want to keep goin.
I loved this movie so much when I was little that I named my kitten Oliver, even though he has gray and chubby!!!
I know this song was upload and over 14 years old but it took me years that "huey Lewis and the news" did this song. I havent seen thia movie let alone hears this song in years. Wow. 😊
This was one of my favorite Disney movies from my childhood and they definitely chose the right SINGER for it too!😄
OLIVER AND COMPANY IS AWESOME
@@vadimbanner2024 YEAH IT IS
Huey was definitely the perfect choice! I love your profile picture! 🥰
@@jasmineaurora3144 Yeah Huey Lewis was a REAL good choice and I'm glad you like my profile icon, I used to LOVE that show on Nick back then!
This is a ridiculously fantastic song!!! Why don't Disney make their films like this anymore?
The most uplifting song ever made...keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive, they're getting your place prepared....so beautiful
Probably one of the best Disney songs ever. Love the melody! The movie is also one of my Disney faves.
Best song and one of the best Disney movies ever! I loved Oliver as a kid, and I still love that movie today!
Don't be scared, though yesterday no one cared... That line motivates me.
Omg, we have this old Disney CD FILLED with Disney songs, and when we played it in the car, this started playing
Always brings me back to my childhood.. Love this movie. It was my obsession.
This song still makes me cry
+crh9008 I feel the same way.
It can make you feel like crap
Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction with crossovers and ship and my fav fandom.
in 2020 still the strong survive ,Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction with the Multiverse ,Earthlings,Martians too.
Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction.
Best disney song and film hands down!
Really wish this was on Spotify. Only covers of the song are on there. 😢
It's difficult not to visualize what happens when the tone changes at 1:42. ~sniffle~
love this song much respect to the guy who sang it 👍👍
I had no idea this movie was made in the 80's until a few years ago. Now I see the signs throughout the movie: synthesized music, cars with pronounced edges and corners rather than modern rounded sides, and the clothes! XD
This song is great and this movie is great
I may be 21 but I still love that movie
To whomever says Up has the saddest intro ever, I say watch this opening scene. THAT’S the real sad opening!
Nostalgic 🥰 I feel so warm inside haha
this is my favorite disney film :)
Looooooooove this song and Huey!
Same here bro
gibbs615 👍👍👍
one of the best disney songs
it maks me happy , sad, nostalgic , and old all the same time lol
HOW COULD ANYONE STAY STARRY-EYED
WHEN IT'S RAININ' CATS AND DOGS OUTSIDE?
AND THE RAIN IS SAYIN',
"NOW YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN~!"
my favourite ever disney movie (yes i love it more than lion king and mermaid) and its also my fave soundtrack :') This song makes me cry, and so does "good company"... im an 18 year old lad by the way haha!
best song in the movie with why should I worry as a strong contender
Honey, I'm 41 and I still love that movie! :)
this movie is one of the things that warm up my nostalgia. why don't I have this movie anymore?
This is, in my opinion, one of the most realistic disney movies. I love it so much! :')
What about 101 Dalmatians, great mouse detective, fox and hound etc?
Childhood...please come back...now would be good
we found a stray cat the exact same colors as Oliver.... we kept him of course
This song is deep! This use to and still is one of my favorite movies of all time but no movie beats Tarzan!!
the beginning of this movie is so sad :( even without seeing it i cry
The most underrated Disney movie ever man
Don’t forget rescuers down under, great mouse detective, sword in the stone, fox and hound, hunchback etc
yeah i love this best childhood movie
How could someone dislike this?
Great song!
This song has always been a favorite from this movie. It's so nostalgic, I love it! Thank you for posting it. :D
TURN AWAY BECAUSE THIS CAN MAKE YOU CRY
That one moment when you realize that an orphaned kitten like Oliver was almost killed 2 or 3 times while this song was playing during the movie.
This song makes me cry right now:'(:'(
I agree. Up had the saddest beginning.
What has happened to Disney, I miss the days when they made good movies like this, I feel sorry for the kids nowadays. I miss my childhood :(
Thumbs up if you watched this movie in 1989!
How do you DISLIKE this? This song is beautiful, makes me so happy to hear... Oliver and Company is such a great Disney movie!
Love the songs by Huey Lewis and Billy Joel. I watched this movie since I was little. I love the classics than the new ones.
i love this song from oliver and company. its my fave. 2nd is why should i worry =)
...What? No, I'm not crying. I just have a bit of nostalgia in my eye.
(seriously, I forgot how awesome this soundtrack is. I can't find the mp3s on Amazon so I may have to buy the actual CD.)
this song makes me shiver...
Now that I hear this song, I am reminded of the first scene of the movie, which brought me to tears... ;__;
I still like it, though. :-)
I love this song song so much and this movie. Such a good tb Disney movie
One of the best Disney movie songs ever! And the movie just got released on blu ray!
This song makes me cry.
this song make me cry , no, i did never was in new yorkm , childwood....
This one always made me cry...
-sniffsniff-
I love this song and watching the film in the cinama is one of my earlyist memories
I love this movie and song so much
My favourite song from any Disney movie ever (and this is coming from a Disney fan)! I think this movie is the best film that Disney ever released and I honestly don't care if other people disagree with my opinion. I also have an Oliver & Company collection of memorabilia (a snowglobe, ornaments etc.). Some of it is in the video I uploaded [on my channel] of my snowglobes and figurines (in case anyone wants to check it out).
I hear ya bro.
I like the Sailing song in toy story too
I have an old cassette and art book. Cassette was an essential for my parents when taking my brother and I on a long car trip. It was the only thing that kept the peace.
Love This Song!
I wish I could stream this, man
As a kid I listened to this song till i wore out the tape LOL
That being said its still a decent song :O
I break to tears everytime I see the Twin Towers with this song.
