  • In this video, I'm gonna share with you the simplest swing speed training drill EVER!
    Recently on our podcast we had Chris FInn, founder of Par4Success on our show to share the results of their data on swing speed research.
    And in that episode (link is below) Chris shared with us the #1 swing speed drill they use in their training programs, which, pound for pound, out performed some of the top swing speed products out there.

    Just a fair warning to listeners; par4success claims they do all these “studies” but these aren’t scientific studies that are going through peer review and are being properly vetted with IRB consent. I think it’s kinda disingenuous to poke fun at companies for doing case studies and say “that’s not research”, well neither is what your doing, I’d consider that more in house investigation. I’ve read their study and it is not something that would likely survive peer review as written. It’s annoying to see all these companies claim we did a study and then realize no, no, there is no quality control measures, for all we know all the data could be made up! Not that it hasn’t been done going through proper channels (IRB, laying out measures pre study) but at least the scientific community can verify the results

    Who do you see for golf strength training?

  • @lucpaquette5031
    @lucpaquette5031 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Very interesting. Doing already some golf strengthening with a specialize trainer for two full months now to maximise club head speed. I don’t see yet any noticeable progress +/- 2 mph). Living also in Québec (Canada)I have to deal with 8’ ceiling top during winter. Can I add this speed training using a 8 iron instead as this is the maximum lenght club I could utilise in my house?

    • @18STRONGTV
      @18STRONGTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. If that's all you have available, it's definitely better than not doing it. It will still help the body understand how to swing faster.

    Hello,
    Do you think its ok to do this protocole after a 2h driving range cession ?
    Thanks !!

    • @18STRONGTV
      @18STRONGTV  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. You definitely don't want to do it after. However, once you get warmed up, it would be a great drill to do at the beginning of that session. You never want to work on speed after a long session because you will likely be fatigued. Your body can't get faster when it is tired.

  • @hakirk1
    @hakirk1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How often and how long do you have to continue your routine before new speed gets into your on course swing.

    • @18STRONGTV
      @18STRONGTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you aren't training excessively and playing a ton every week, you can do this consistently through the year. Even during season. Since it's not a ton of reps and there isn't much resistance, it's not as taxing on the body as a heavy weighted workout. I'd recommend 2x/week in season and no more than 3x in the off-season.
      One way to help transfer this to the course (after doing several of the mentioned sessions) is to mix a few of these max speed swings (without a ball) in at the driving range, then hit hit a couple balls with the same intention of speed (without regard for where the ball goes for the time being). This will help you feel max speed in a real situation. Just by doing this, you will notice that your "cruising speed" will naturally start to increase.

    What device do you recommend to measure swing speed to better understand if improvements are made?

    • @18STRONGTV
      @18STRONGTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PRGR is decent. The simplest one that I have used and probably like the best was the Sports Sensor swing speed radar.

      I find doing this then hitting golf balls ruins my timing. So I do speed training on different days to my playing or practicing, certainly would have a few hours between speed training and practice

    What about irons can you do the same exercise for speed

    • @18STRONGTV
      @18STRONGTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can. But I find that doing these drills with a driver is more comfortable and should translate over into your irons as well. But go ahead and try it. I would start with a longer iron (4 or 5 iron) then maybe dabble into the shorter clubs if you want. But don't do more than 3 sessions per week.

      are you sure your swing speed monitor is not set to km/hr haha? At 124 you are well above average for PGA men's tour and out of sight relative to senior tour. eg McIlroy who is one of the longer hitters swing speed is about 122 and Monty is less than 110 !

    With all due respect, our research and results over the last 40 years prove that this premise is incomplete and basically wrong. What's being suggested may be a way to get moderate gain, but it's far from being the best way to add clubhead speed, length and command. Ben Jackson, FastFirst Golf JET SPEED.

    • @TheAboriginal1
      @TheAboriginal1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? Matt Fitzpatrick added 40 yards to his drive from speed training...... all research indicates that clubhead speed is the primary factor in longer drives.....

    • @benjackson4635
      @benjackson4635 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAboriginal1 You’re making my case for me. Clubhead speed training is what we do! What I’m saying is a long proven fact. Swinging at nothing is anything but the best way to add clubhead speed. The brain know when there’s nothing to strike. The brain amps up the force, acceleration, and speed when there is something to strike. FastFirst Golf JET SPEED, Ben Jackson
