  • I’m keen to show you something different today. Today let’s look for an organic gemstone: amber. We call it Bernstein and it is abundant in my hometown if the conditions are right. Am I able to find any?

    Me and the wife really miss the Imbiss curry wurst and brotchen, Maisel hefe weisen and all the great things about Germany. I was stationed in Baumholder in the early 90's and mid 90's a second time, US Army. I have retired since 2010 December and have many fond memories of shopping in Trier, in the open day markets of Porta Nigra gate. hope you find lots of that Amber !

    I really enjoyed your show today. I really never knew anything about Amber. Was very surprised that it is nothing more than pine pitch. When growing up in the upper peninsula of Michigan. in the USA we used to scrape the same kind of stuff out of balsam trees in Judit. We referred to it as pitch pretty much the same as what is in a pine tree Siri. cannot believe it I chewed that stuff and then spit it out. I can’t believe the beach that you were walking on how far out the sand goes is amazing. We have a lot of beaches in Michigan of course because we are surrounded by the great Lakes, which are all freshwater Again, I enjoyed your video. Hope you’re having a nice time in Germany. Very very interesting.

    The water temperature also has an effect, the colder it is, the easier that amber floats and therefore can be deposited on the beach. Good luck from Denmark.

    • @OutbackGoldFever
      @OutbackGoldFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't know that and that's probably the reason most amber gets deposited later in the year when it cools down.

      @@OutbackGoldFever You´re welcome. Just where you are can be a bit dangerous, lots of phosphorous has been dumped in the Baltic and that can resemble the yellow amber. If you put it in your trouser pocket, it can ignite because of the body heat.

    is that worth $80 a gram. Where is the big bits? you can find that on a beach north of Cairns.

      @OutbackGoldFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not worth anything at all, the big bits come out in autumn (as explained in the video). I simply enjoy fossicking, not everything needs to have monetary value if you ask me, it's just good fun. Didn't know about amber north of Cairns and I spent so many years up that way...

    What do you do with the Amber?

    • @OutbackGoldFever
      @OutbackGoldFever  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't have any plans, it's probably too small to be able to do much but I might take them over to Australia, maybe I'll have a work shop out there one day and then I can start experimenting.

      I don't have any plans of what to do with it, it'll probably sit in a jar at home waiting for me to find some more to fill up the jar 😁

      Had the equinox at the beach a few days ago but didn't find anything interesting, it was just a beach clean up 😁

    Walking barefooted in sand is much easier than wearing flip flops or footwear. At least for me it is.

    I hope your having fun Krissy you deserve the break you live under such terrible conditions. PS if you see a mosquito trapped in the amber leave the bloody thing in there its big trouble 😂❤

      There are plenty of creatures out there that remind me of dinosaurs (like the monitor lizards in our backyard), wouldn't want to take the risk 😂
