I don't mind that the kick is staged at all, but I am curious how it's legal for FanDuel to run a TV contest with a predetermined outcome considering the Game Show scandal laws.
I saw a tik tok from a guy staying in a Las Vegas Hotel with a view of the Kicking field where he showed what looked to be the "Live" taping of the kick, however it was done like a dozen times, woth gronk making and missing different kicks, doing the same pose after, then resetting to do it all again, with the crowd, cameras, and everything. So I assumed from the start it was faked, and that they probably filmed a number of attempts, and just aired witch ever one fit the end result of the bet that they wanted.
TBH, why can't Gronk take the Kick of Destiny in the Super Bowl stadium during a halftime commercial break, where it's covered live by the Super Bowl broadcasters and Kay Adams as a special Kick of Destiny sideline reporter?
Because no network wants to cosign a scammy commercial they don't make money off of. Also the whole predetermination of outcome can't happen if it is actually live.
I think they can't do that easily because during halftime, they're either setting up for or tearing down the halftime show. The actual on air portion for the kick may take 30 seconds, but getting the cameras, people, and equipment in place and out of place while they're trying to setup for the halftime show would probably take a few minutes total.
The blue sweater outfit was probably not her own outfit but one picked out by FanDuel for the event. It's the same blue as their logo and all the decorations.
The reason they film him making and missing the kick, is so they can see which way the money went, and then air the one with the smallest bets on it, as the offical kick.
I wish they would give us a real Carl Weathers tribute and just release the footage of him from both of the filmed endings unedited. If this campaign was the man's last on-screen performance, I want to see all the finished footage.
The voiceover, the face shots, and the music track in that Reebok ad were recorded already. The only thing they had to do during/after the game was pick and edit the appropriate length of footage into it.
Working in production I can tell you that I have been apart of MANY productions where they claimed it was "live" but it wasn't. That's not illegal as far as I know, however I don't know about claiming an event is live when people are gambling on it. Also, keeping in mind these companies have teams of lawyers covering their bases on all the legalities of it. Regardless, it is deceptive but nothing new in the industry of broadcast/TV.
all you have to do is look at the time the sunset that day and then compare it to when the commercial came on lol, the sunsets around 5:20 in vegas this time of year and that sun was nowhere near setting so it looks like that was done around 2-3
I actually visted Las Vegas last year and stayed in the MGM Signature (which is connected to MGM Grand). I can garauntee you, the 1st Quarter would've been at MINIMUM half over by the time she got to the stadium. Las Vegas traffic, ESPECIALLY along The Strip, is a candidate for some of the worst traffic in America.
The “she changed clothes” is the worst take about this video. Have you never know a girl especially in a public setting change outfits? Not to mention the fact that she was wearing one for work (the comercial) and one for her private, going to the game, life. And there’s a difference between it being “fake” like your title states and it not being live.”
Solar elevation at 2:30 PM PST was 28.8 degrees. You'd expect Gronkowski's shadow to be a little more than 12 feet long at that angle. Shadows at that time are less than twice the height of the object. At 3:30, the elevation was 18.8 degrees for a shadow length of 19 feet, a little less than 3 times the height. Assuming the yard markers are actually 1 yard apart, the field is approximately 10 yards wide. At 13:19, Gronkowski is ~4 yards from the sideline and his shadow extends more than 3 yards farther back along the sideline, so what we can see of his shadow is 15 feet long and we don't see the whole shadow. At 2:30 PM, his shadow wouldn't have gotten to the sideline and at 1:30, it would have only been 9 feet long. The shadow of the ball on the tee is a long longer than 2 ball lengths. The kick, as pictured, was taken much later than 2:30 PM and very close to 3:30 PM PST. Now, it may have been taken the day before, but it wasn't taken anywhere close to 2:30 or earlier in the afternoon.
@@michaeloptv Yes. it was taken very close to 330 PM PST (much closer to 330 than 230 or even 300). Physically impossible to be much earlier than that unless it was the day before, which I don't know how likely that would be.
They paid out the same make or miss, fan duel didn’t care either way. If anything fan duel would want him to make as more people would have gotten free bets. Word was last year they assumed he would make it and they paid out the same as if he made it. Fanduel locked the pick at 530, Im guessing he filmed the kick around then.
I’m not surprised that it was recorded. But at least I think it was more accurate and done a lot better than last year. There was a lot more legitimacy with this one compared to last year’s. Last year’s was just so anticlimactic. All that buildup for basically just saying, “Use FanDuel.” I was watching this ad and I said, “Thank God that was real.” I will admit, I did initially think that it was live, considering that the video cut out for the start of the game. But even after I started wondering if it was taped, I at least knew that there was a lot more legitimacy and felt content with the ad.
Fanduel was giving away $10 million regardless, so why have to different results. But the way Fanduel works is: the people would share the bonus bets, so Fanduel went with the majority, so more people would split the money and have a lesser bet and therefore a lesser payout if a bonus bet paid off. I picked that he would make it because he's an athlete, not a kicker, but an athlete just the same.
If you saw the ads they ran in the leadup to the game, they teased that it would be John Cena doing the kick but in the lore for this year's Kick of Destiny the suits at FanDuel were up for Gronk making another attempt and Carl Weathers was basically playing his character from Happy Gilmore with Cena I guess playing the role of Shooter McGavin
Someone familiar with editing and production I can tell you it would take under 5 minutes to film the kick and get it into the commercial and get a copy to CBS to air on TV. It's drag and drop and then finalizing and making a copy and emailing it. The TV is basically green screened and the kick is just added over the top. You could do it on your cell phone and still have plenty of time with how they aired it.
If you wanna take it a step further. After they showed that kick, not too long after that the 49ers scored a touchdown and miraculously missed out on an extra point. The kicker kicked it just low enough for it to be able to be blocked instead of flat out missing it to make it look good. Smh.
Did anyone else see the tiktok of them this kick a day or two before? It was a guy in his room at the mgm looking down on the parking lot and he saw them doing the kick ahead of time. I can't find it anymore so I'm guessing FanDuel made tiktok take it down.
I do love the Zapruder Film-level analysis of the footage. "Back and to the left." I just assumed it was fake and not meant to be taken seriously. Gronk is clearly "enhanced" in some way. Look at how the "Fan Duel blue" jersey pops off the screen. That looks like post-production, although maybe it can be done live. I don't know. But I did think it looked "over-enhanced" as if to say it was fake without actually saying it. Amazing they pieced that Emmitt Smith commercial together that fast with VHS tape back in the day. Excellent work, as always.
I don't have a dog in this hunt. But two things: 1. Film production sets usually have their own hair/makeup/wardrobe units, and hosts typically don't wear their own clothes on air. On news, you'll typically see a credit at the end "Sally Smart's wardrobe graciously provided by Ralph Lauren. She would also have a trailer, or a private changing area on set to change out of her personal clothes. 2. Shadows and sun angle don't lie. That sun looks pretty low. Looks like 3:30 normally does here on the West Coast. Vegas is only a couple hours inland, and still Pacific time zone. Not gonna lie, I felt that this was pretty extreme paranoia over a SuperBowl ad. But then I saw all the Jaguars jerseys behind you, and everything made sense to me. It's ok, my friend. I'll let you work all the issues out with your therapist.
What dude. You can see in the drone footage that there are multiple trailers. At least one of which is for the actors to get in and out of costume. Fan Duel chooses her costume for the set, then afterwards she jumps in a trailer and changes for the game. The microphone thing makes it even more realistic. As if it were pre recorded they would have time to fix any audio issues before going live on TH-cam. As someone that lives in the Pacific timezone, thats the precise location that the sun would be at 6:30 ET or 3:30 Pacific. And what ultimately proves your take wrong is the fact that instagram user chancelv says this in his caption “LITERALLY kicking off Super Bowl Sunday with the LEGEND and FOUR-TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION Rob Gronkowski filming his Kick of Destiny for FanDuel LIVE in Las Vegas.”
Is there any way to use the sun to try to get an approximate time? Seems like it would be tricky because where it sits compared to other things in the background is dependent on viewing angle but im sure there is someone on the internet smarter than me that can figure something out
The Kay Adams thing doesn't track. Not only would she have had plenty of time to change between the location and the stadium. Having performed in theater myself, I can confirm that a change that simple could have happened in five seconds if they'd wanted it to, so the time between the shoot and the game would have been more than enough, whether she changed at the location, in the car on the way, in a stall in a stadium rest room, or anywhere in between. And her second outfit would have been a lot more comfortable than the tight, form-fitting blazer she wore at the shoot, so it's not outrageous that she'd want to change.
Honestly, since EVERYONE in the commercial is wearing FanDuel branded clothing, easy bet is all clothing was provided by FD and she changed into her personal clothing after the shoot
11:46 this situation is so creepy to look fully back on. Off topic for a second, he says some stuff in that stream that almost relates back to the murder case but sounds he just played it off like it was just stuff you say when playing gta. I'm surprised you chose that situation to talk about pre-recorded streams tbh, not mad but just kind of interesting.
I’m just tired of all the freaking gambling commercials!!! I like the good old days in the 80s when the mafia was secretly in bed with the NFL and fixing games for gambling
That first question, there has never been any evidence to suggest he did. CIA files claim he lived into the late 1950s, iirc it was 1959 when he passed away in Argentina. This isn't a conspiracy btw, just facts you can verify yourself
I have a few points against your arguments. 1. The outfit. Quite likely the outfit was owned by the production company and had to be returned afterwards. Even if was not, why wear that outfit to a game and risk getting mustard or beer on it, or not being comfortable. 2. What time was her post? Yes 10 minutes would be tight if she arrived to the game by kickoff, but not impossible. Even if it was middle of 1st quarter there would have been plenty of time. 3. Online streaming FCC requirements. I've streamed a few police chases where it was announced the stream was going to lose sound because they were going live on television due to FCC regulations. I don't know the regulation, but based upon my encounters with it. There may be a regulation prohibiting the dual broadcast online and over the air, so when the stream went live on CBS. They had to cut audio to the stream. I don't know it exists, but I have experienced it several times. And I know the fcc has a similar regulation regarding radio stations that if a station broadcasts over the air as well as online streaming. They must interrupt and not allow the commercials on the live stream. So them having a kind of similar television regulation is very plausible. 4. There would have been many numerous ways to check the actual time of the kick, like when the instagram video was posted, the shadows of the scene, or even digging and finding someone from the crowd.
At first I just thought, "oh yay click bait to debunk a known garbage stunt"... but I come to actully believe you. I don't think it was live either. Probably about 5pm would be my guest
So you’re saying it takes her a while to get to the stadium because the lock was 2+ miles to the stadium. Have you never changed your clothes in a limo? She had 2+ miles to change her clothes. What she wore at the game was more comfortable than the tight sport coat she had on at the kick. I’m not debunking anything but changing an outfit was easy. One is an on air outfit while the other is a “enjoy the game” outfit.
It's quite common for celebs and/or media pundits to change outfits when moving from work to casual. I'd argue that it would be rare not to see them change once done with work. This truth has no impact on if the kick was live or not. Did it look live when aired? Doesn't look live in this video imo
The angle and position of the sun should give you almost precisely what time the kick was made. This looks late afternoon, certainly not a early/mid afternoon. Go to 13:16 in the video, note the position of the sun and the long shadows, pull out your maps of the city and compass and based on the time of year and latitude, you should be able to vector out the time-of-day within 15 minutes or so with even rough calculations. At first inspection, based on landmarks, it looks like the setup is facing almost exactly West, running parallel to Tropicana Ave. This puts the sun West-Southwest in this photo....setting within 30 minutes or so. You take it from here....
The comments about the position of the sun are wild 😭 It was 100% filmed & broadcasted live though. I have no idea if Fan Duel had this scripted or anything like that. The videos that were going around the day before were just for the crew to make sure everything was good for the live feed. It was fun to be on set and see it all live, but again no knowledge of anything beyond that. I just know the production crew was great and worked hard to make sure that live feed was great!
The exit strategy: by 2027 FanDuel will own the NFL or vice versa. Or there’ll be the FanDuel pre-game or half-time show. Gronk will do the kick as part of the pre-game or half-time show. Or, Gronk makes the kick and a former NFL PK (or maybe Pat Mac) thens says I bet you can’t make one 10 yards further away.
They couldve done it an hour before the game that would be logical thats way it gives Kay Adams and the fans that saw the kick chance to arrived at Allegiance
On Pat McAfees show there have been times when there is audio on the stream and not ESPN and vice versa. Easy way to tell what time it was is plotting the suns location. It is easy to see where it was during the kick. I am not going to bother because I don’t care
The fact that they showed Gronk making the practice kick? And it went right down the middle? That shows he can do it no problem, which honestly is leading me to question if he intentionally missed when it counted? Gotta build up for Kick of Destiny 3 right?
@@ryanmiddleton109 That opens up an ENTIRE can of worms about the integrity of FanDuel itself, because they could, in theory, know which choice got the most bets, and know which bet would pay off less. There's a word for that... it's called RIGGING THE GAME. And it's HIGHLY ILLEGAL.
@@ethanmx2 I mean, it was a free contest to enter, and they were paying out the same amount in site credit regardless. But yes that would be pretty shady. But that would be about par for the course here.
The one flaw in your argument is Kay Adams. (1) The top and jacket she wore for Fan Duel were probably provided by wardrobe to ensure proper color match for the ad (just like the "fans"). If she's like my wife, it'd take her a minute to change into her personal outfit in the production trailer at the site... (2) As for getting to the game, the picture she posted on X wasn't posted until Monday morning and doesn't say that she made it by kick-off... Before that the Besties picture was a retweet of her on a private jet headed back to LA... Now, the arguments about shadow length; that's what I thought of, but didn't feel like doing the math like @haroldbrooks9821 did...
What do you mean the kick is staged lol. He tried kicking a field goal. Doesn’t matter if he makes it or not and there’s no reason whatsoever to not just have Gronk try to kick a field goal lol
where is the sun at that time...thats how you'll know if it was live or not. is there a horizon shot of the stadium right before kickoff...how low was the sun.
Not being live doesn’t bother me. It’s the way the staff basically is telling him TO MISS!! We now know he can make it…and that “live” kick was off by a country mile! So Yeah it still feels staged and unfortunately it’s run the table. Time to move on.
It's a promotion. It's not like you can bet anything on it. It's free money if you pick correct. I guess if you are giving away 10 million. You probably are allowed to pick how it plays out. You can bet the color of Gatorade and that's predetermined by somebody. Reid doesn't walk out to 48 random coolers and go 'uh Dat 1'.
Yea, this is grasping at straws. Its fake cuz the woman changed her top and jacket? Its almost as if she went from WORKING and being on TV, to NOT WORKING and enjoying personal time. Have you never met a woman before? They change clothes cuz a color doesn't match the weather.
I don't mind that the kick is staged at all, but I am curious how it's legal for FanDuel to run a TV contest with a predetermined outcome considering the Game Show scandal laws.

Why the hell are we letting sports betting companies run sweepstakes like this??
It was still better than the Temu ad
Temu Is funded by the Chinese government they’re able to just piss through money for customer acquisition globally, as they had six Super Bowl ads.
Still infinitely better than that weird NFT chest one from last year.
I’m just tired of all the freaking gambling commercials!!!
I like the good old days in the 80s when the mafia was secretly in bed with the NFL and fixing games for gambling
Have you ever thought of looking into whether Hitler really committed suicide? What happened to Amelia Earhardt? Whether the Shroud of Turin is real?
That first question, there has never been any evidence to suggest he did. CIA files claim he lived into the late 1950s, iirc it was 1959 when he passed away in Argentina.
This isn't a conspiracy btw, just facts you can verify yourself
FanDuel can very easily get in trouble for this. Its basically playing the 'Shell Game' with nothing under the cups
I don't like Gronk so I will be the 88th comment on purpose lol. Also, very misleading title. Clickbait, if you will.
Nice video, jg9! I really liked it-you had the ability to see which one was real and which one was not! You are a heck of a detective 🕵️! 😅😅😅😅
Might be staged but I don’t really care. I got a free $25 bet out of it so it’s a W in my book.
It was fake and dumb just like last year and next year.
Love the amount of videos recently
At first I just thought, "oh yay click bait to debunk a known garbage stunt"... but I come to actully believe you. I don't think it was live either. Probably about 5pm would be my guest
Jagsandgators?? Fuck that its titansandvols brotha
When was the Instagram from the other dude uploaded?

It's quite common for celebs and/or media pundits to change outfits when moving from work to casual. I'd argue that it would be rare not to see them change once done with work. This truth has no impact on if the kick was live or not. Did it look live when aired? Doesn't look live in this video imo
I could tell that it was fake
May have to watch your take on Kick of Destiny 2, Electric Boogaloo, tomorrow.
Exactly, I was thinking the same thing!
The clothes the host was wearing was probably wardrobe and not owned by her
The woman's outfit change coincides with the fanduel color scheme, so they had her change to match.
The Kick of Destiny is already getting old. How about the Onside Kick of Destiny instead. Working on it now. Rules to follow. Stay tuned.🏈
When are you going to do your Dumb Decisions episode for Kyle Shanahan taking the ball to start OT?
Just did: th-cam.com/video/S5-tSFYMzS8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=WJc2TiwwB4a5-72v
...could also use the shadows as sundials to determine the time?
FanDuel just got EXPOSED TWICE! GYATT DAMN!
Corporate mafia bull shit FanDuel sucks!
The Emmitt Smith ad is (or at least was) in the Guiness Book of World Records for fastest produced commercial.
Did they force all those witnesses to sign an NDA to void any of them spilling the beans about when the video footage happened?
On Pat McAfees show there have been times when there is audio on the stream and not ESPN and vice versa. Easy way to tell what time it was is plotting the suns location. It is easy to see where it was during the kick. I am not going to bother because I don’t care
The fact that they showed Gronk making the practice kick? And it went right down the middle? That shows he can do it no problem, which honestly is leading me to question if he intentionally missed when it counted? Gotta build up for Kick of Destiny 3 right?
That or the ball was rigged somehow to miss if they wanted it to miss.
I think they recorded both outcomes and decided on which they wanted to use afterwards...
It’s a prop bet right? Like the Gatorade color and other niche things?
I can send you the recoding of nickelodeon superbowl want me to i will record it if you want
You have to firmly grasp it!

I need it too, man. I been desperately trying to find a copy last night

@@Cityofstroud Hmm... I suppose my email? Do you have it uploaded anywhere yet?
The one flaw in your argument is Kay Adams. (1) The top and jacket she wore for Fan Duel were probably provided by wardrobe to ensure proper color match for the ad (just like the "fans"). If she's like my wife, it'd take her a minute to change into her personal outfit in the production trailer at the site... (2) As for getting to the game, the picture she posted on X wasn't posted until Monday morning and doesn't say that she made it by kick-off... Before that the Besties picture was a retweet of her on a private jet headed back to LA...
Now, the arguments about shadow length; that's what I thought of, but didn't feel like doing the math like @haroldbrooks9821 did...
you dont think fandule didt have a set of cloths for there add
Gronk lined up to kick it wide right - obvious miss - obvious trolling of Buffalo.
20 minute video who knows how many hours spent making it on an ad lmaoooooooooooooooo
Obviously intentionally missed. His acting? Lol. Makes you wonder about the games themselves
Damn, us bills fans out here catching strays. Like damn dude.
I thought the first one was faked too.
Sports gambling is a BS scam! Millions of dollars spent on commercials doesn’t come from you winning!
I say it happened in the morning. Look at the sun. Thats either very close to sunset or sunrise.
Yea, this is grasping at straws. Its fake cuz the woman changed her top and jacket? Its almost as if she went from WORKING and being on TV, to NOT WORKING and enjoying personal time. Have you never met a woman before? They change clothes cuz a color doesn't match the weather.
