Problem with the railgun is, it is so heavy that most of the ships cannot install it. Also, about the cost, while each firing costs less, the railgun itself is more expensive than other systems due to its sophisticated parts for magnetic launching.

I can just see the future of military invasion. Tens of thousands of tiny drones in a swarm. Each capable of delivering one or more lethal charges sent into battle eliminating an enemies assets and personnel.

Scary as hell it is. and it will come from within! any Wack job with a few million and a couple thousand cult subjects. I know of 3 domestic insane factions right off the bat evil enough to do just that. not my world anymore, way too many people of hate. they have forgotten how the greatest generation fought and died so we did not have that here. my father, my uncle and my brother and a couple million other.
