    The non OEM ones leak too in time, so have fun with that! Always buy OEM parts for replacement, such as thermos etc. Thanks for the info though! Nice and simple

      Looks like I need the O ring replaced in my distributor because I've noticed oil is leaking on the distributor where the spark plug wires are connected to the distributor.

    Hi, is there any way to replace oil seal in the distributor shaft? Saw my corolla leaking bad inside cap ond towards transmission housing. O ring replaced.

      What I mean is the internal shaft, it is leaking internally into rotor.
      O-ring I have replaced to fix external leak.

    My 1996 Corolla suddenly stalls after idling smoothly for 20 to 60 minutes. I can revive engine just before stalling by tapping the gas. The ignition coil's primary resistance is a little out of spec, so I plan to replace coil. I noticed about 1/4 teaspoon of oil in the distributor housing, so I also plan to change the seal like you did. Do you think the oil leak caused the coil to fail?

      If you car is stalling at idle, I would first suspect a fuel issue. I would start with the fuel filter them move on to the pressure regulator and the fuel pump If that doesn't fix it. I would do a fuel pressure test before changing the regulator or the pump. You should donwload my book and read the trouble shooting section.

      Why would you need to drain the oil before changing the oil ring in the distributor? The oil is in the oil pan at the bottom of the engine.

      Snug em up, not too important. Just don't over tighten them and break the head off of a bolt.

    I thought for 4AFE they made it so you can ONLY put it back in the same way... Thus, "making a mark for timing" is redundant.. Even if you have to move the distributor part, it fits in the engine the same way, and the engine isn't or was not turned during this time, so.. ??

      Not sure but they were junk. Found them in a junk yard and thought they looked cool ... smh OEM is much better.

    I have the identical engine. I'm blowing high carbon exhaust, and gas mileage not good for this car. Tapped into codes, EGR issue. I checked the VCC etc, but before I replace the EGR, I cleaned it thouroghly. Was good for about 2-300 miles. and went back on. Question, would the high carbon exhaust, and some blue on sitting high rev ups, be casued by valve stem seals as well?. Which would produce the high carbon building in EGR..? 200k on it. I Keep it all up. If so, I cant find a vid to do it anywhere. Head Removal? Or Not?

      Barry Page no you do not need to remove the head. bad valve seals will cause white smoke and oil consumption. carbon build up is due to rich air fuel mixture. you should down load a free copy of my book and read the troubleshooting chapter.

      Book was real helpful with diags. My oil cunsumption's "ok" for 200k, not excessive, and my smokes not white, so honing in on the Injector and regulator issues. Is there a way to test the injectors? I use to tech, it's been a long time, I have a descent amount of tools, just not alot of "tech" tools. Also "Calibration" on a 95 1.8 corrolla? Does it have an ECM?

      Barry Page yes 1.8l has an ecu. i have a video on checking fuel injectors, just do a search on my channel. also read the chapter in my book about troubleshooting.

    Is the o ring the same size for the 1.6?

      Yes, the destributer o-ring is the same size for 1.6 and 1.8.

    hi, my corolla 7afe is spending a lot of gasoline, I noticed that the distributor cap electrode is worn. does it influences the consumption of gasoline?

      Yes. Worn ignition parts will cause poor ignition which will result in poor gas mileage.

    you didnt push the distributor all the way in. ive been trying to search for a guide how to get the damn distributor in the hole. i replacing my distributor on 95 celica. has the 1.8 7A AE ENGINE.. CAN u help me out?

      The keys on the distributor are off-set so they only go in one way. Remove the valve cover and you can see the end of the camshaft to align the keys on the distributor correctly. good luck.

    My 1987 Toyota Carina at 85,000 miles has just had its third ignition coil fitted, first has Made in Japan stamped on it. The second has no country stated. This one has - Made in China. This time I just wrapped a few turns of PTFE tape around the old washer NO Leaks seen ! I wonder why these: "in distributer" coils fail ? I did last time also fit new spark plug wires, I would have done again this time but Battle Garage , Fremont USA, sent me a set for - what must be a 4AGE engine which has a seperate coil which is " off the engine " also the plug fitting are different . DAM IT !! ! ! makes me think Toyota found that coil in distributer was a " bad idea /?

      I have never had a coil in distributor failure. I do have a few old distributors from years ago that I got from pick n pull , maybe they were made batter in the 70's & 80"s ....

    There is no choice but remove rocker cover, take out the cup ( that made only for the distributor) locate the distributor on it with the mark on the 12mm external bolts, close the cup and rocker cover on it, it not , distributor body will be stuck no matter how much grease it have...

    my 1995 corolla that has 242,000 has a problem during winter when it sits out over night in the really cold weather, it will just crank in the morning... the battery drains after 15 seconds of cranking... its not the battery, ive changed battery, spark plugs, ignition wires, and tested four different ignition control modules. any idea?

      yeah, it just stretches a little and roles onto the shaft on the base of the distributor.

      +Engineerboy 100 thanks that 's what I did but was unsure if stretching it was the right thing to do . also had to position the inner end swiveling part to get it to slide back in only seems to go in in one position.

      +Ed the Sax Player Yes, the end key is offset so that you cannot get the cam timing wrong, it's a go/no-go feature, just another one of the many built in protections on these Toyota's, I love em :)

      Su fuga podría ser la junta de la tapa de la válvula o es posible que deba obtener la junta tórica del tamaño correcto en la tienda local de partes automotrices.

      +Psi Fire It definitely could be from that o-ring and I really can't thing of anything else it could be off hand.

      +Psi Fire Oil inside the distributor cap is more likely a leaking valve cover gasket. This can be fixed many time simply by giving the 10mm mount nuts a half turn or so just to tighten them up a little there is often no need to change the gasket yet. good luck.

      Thanks for the tip. My brother replaced the valve cover gasket a while back and then I just had the timing belt done which required the valve cover taken off and I think the mechanic I used sealed it with some liquid gasket. I'll reopen the valve cover when I play in the intake again and see if there is still oil in there. Could have been residual from the prior valve cover leak.
