Everyone’s been worried about only 8 voices.. to me, if one section was a bass and one was and arp, you still have 6 voices for chords… it feels like enough to me in this regard.
Jack really dogged the Roland AX-Edge lol. I think most people on TH-cam are reluctant to completely shit on a product because there’s always somebody out there that it might be perfect for, even if it’s not their bag. It’s really up to you to watch, consider the pros and cons, and decide if you like what it offers or not.
I have watched a bunch of videos, and one criticism is the CPU can get laggy when drawing the screen, and it might labor in other ways as well. Also, no audio-out via USB (not sure what that means), and the hardware inside looks to not even support that. Some folks are afraid Polyend will release the "Synth+" in 9 months and piss a lot of people off.
Interesting. I heard it’s 8 polyphony. That’s very tight and would mean lots of note cutoffs. I guess they really want a mono and a lead for two of the three layers. Need to see more fm modulation options and wavetable stuff. Could be tempted at 249. Not 499 or is it 399? It’s promising though. I’m sure a few updates and features can be added. Like vector synth and chaos
I agree, to an extent -- but not so much menu diving as menu changing, and that little screen has to be quite the chameleon. Still seems pretty educational though (for a new squirt like me). In just one day, the guy here was able to get right where he needed to be quickly and casually (in my opinion).
Can you change the root note all together? Every demo is playing with C as the the root note. I'd like to see if it can play something like an F# minor scale and chords.
What is the point of these mini screen menu diving machines? You could do the same thing with a laptop with fraction of money. Why does’t anyone make playable knob per function versions out of these for us who like DAWless flow?
I don't get how this thing works from the video. Probably has to do w/ the menu diving you describe. Synths cheaper as this one with one function per knob are more fun. And playing a synth with a matrix of buttons? Pffffff. The horror, the horror! Look at how Jack plays this turd: do you see yourself doing that? And what good is the matrix if you connect a Midi keyboard to it?
I love Polyend and own Tracker Plus, Play Plus, and Tracker Mini. This little guy was an instant purchase, especially for $500 USD. Hopefully VAT doesn’t crush my friends on the other side of the Atlantic.
I have lots of inventory beyond that, “chief.” It’s what happens when you work for a living and you’ve been playing multiple instruments for over 40 years.
@@endoflevelboss Had a Montage 7 and sold it, same with the Blofeld. Also had a Stingray HH years ago. The only reason I mentioned my Polyend stuff is because I'm a fan of their gear - I personally can't think of anything more pathetic than gear dicksizing.
Looks like a gimmicky toy. Sure it’s fun for an hour for £99 maybe, but hardly an instrument is it. Imagine this at band practise, “ok this one is C G Am F” Gimme 20 mins while I try and set this up…. I dread to think what they’re asking for this nonsense. And not really for bands I guess too
Or you know program scenes for all the songs before hand and then simply load them? It's not the synths fault if you don't understand how to logically use it.
@@AnywayHeresMyCleanTone You said band practice not jam, if you want to play random songs in the spur of the moment then buy something else. Not every device is gonna fit your requirements, that's not a negative.
@@AnywayHeresMyCleanTone Wouldn't you just use a keyboard for that then? To put it another way, what do you consider a good "take it out and jam" synth? Genuine question, no disrespect intended!
I was impressed by some of the Physical Model engine, but only because it was some of my first exposure to that, like a mallet bouncing off a bell.Otherwise, I see your point. Maybe a lot of sounds but not really stand-out at any one thing?
Dont get it- its just a synth… can do the same with mc707 or sh-4d with midi over same Channel or with a Keyboard split.yes it has other synthesis Like Wave etc but nothing special. Every force,Even without mockba, can do more…
If Polyend would actually fix their existing models instead of replacing them with version 2s every year then maybe this would be something worth thinking about. Unfortunately they dgaf so no thanks
@mclarensmps, Illegitimate complaint. The Tracker was going strong for how many years with great firmware updates and support? The original Play likewise received updates and is still well supported by the manufacturer. The Play+ situation is not the company’s usual MO. More than likely the original was a compromise due to chip and material shortages that lasted most of 2020 and 2021. I’m not thrilled about it (as I bought the original Play when it first came out), but I do feel like the Play is worth every dollar (it’s a fantastic deal at $499 current price).

"barely enough" would be my take... 3 note chords with overlapping envelopes is 6 notes..so no room for 3 notes plus octave.

Wow, this seems like a perfect allround synth and I’m impressed by the sound quality! Great price too! Might get this one!
Logically laid out, but seems like you have to do quite a lot of menu diving to craft the sounds
